Bingethinkers: New LP in 2011 + (Free DL)

3 01 2011

Over the last 5 years, The Binge have built a reputation as one of thes most formidable live acts on the Sydney scene. Comprising MC Rinse on the mic, DJ 2Buck on the decks and producers Aeon and PSYKEone on the beats, this combination of unstoppable energy, boom bap beats and razor sharp lyrics has seen many a Hip Hop throwdown go down – ya heard?

Back in 2007, Bingethinkers released their mixtape Shelf Life – standing out from the crowd by bringing all the beatmaking and production in-house and featuring guests such as Rainman, 13th Son, Scott Burns, Immune and Calski. Whilst only the tip of the iceberg, Shelf Life showed Australia what Bingethinkers were capable of and soon saw them touring with the likes of Def Wish Cast around the country – as well as playing on international bills with Tha Alkaholiks, M.O.P. Dilated Peoples Sound System, Looptroop, Tim Dog, Foreign Beggars and more.
Currently Bingethinkers are working on their debut album and keeping the LookUP engine steaming ahead. The debut LP has just been announced and looks set to drop February 4, 2011. Keep your eyes in the sky and get ready to hear more from one of Australia’s premier upcoming crews – shit is next level BOSS.

Shelf Life is the debut mixtape release from LookUP’s Bingethinkers. Containing all original in-house production from Aeon, PSYKEone and 2Buck – this CD has received praise from hip hop critics around the country.

Whisper: The Free Album feat. Mantra, 13th Son, A-Diction & more

14 12 2010

Whisper is the triple threat. He’s an experienced emcee and producer, plus, the boy can sing! Whisper has been steadily producing beats for over 7 years and rapping for over 10, but he has only just begun to unleash his melodic vocal stylings, at the insistence of those who have worked with him.

In 2005, hip-hop crew Equills, consisting of Whisper, and his partners in crime, Mantra and DJ Wax Vandal, released an LP The New Threat to wide critical acclaim. The New Threat shows Whisper’s talent as, not only an emcee, but as a producer, with a large proportion of the beats being Whisper productions. Equills played at many festivals, such as, Livid and Kiss My Grass, and shared the stage with artists such LooptroopHilltop Hoods, Bliss N Eso and The Roots. Following the success of The New Threat, Whisper was inspired to pursue other creative projects – and to complete a degree in design – but has not ruled out a future Equills album.

Right now, Whisper is concentrating on his solo release with a possible release date mid next 2011. A few days ago, Whisper dropped a mixtape titled The Free Album.

The Free Album is 10 cracking tracks featuring some of Australia’s top emcees including 13th Son, A-Diction and Mantra. You can check The Free Album below and also download in 320kbs glory.

M-Phazes – Good Gracious album review

14 04 2010

M-Phazes has quickly established himself as one of the country’s top producers. After 2 years of nights locked away, computers humming, beats banging and unhealthy dietary intakes (not confirmed), a masterpiece has emerged. Good Gracious is the heavily anticipated debut album from lauded Gold Coast beat-maker M-Phazes.  This 15 track LP features appearances from some of Australia’s most respected hip hop artists including Drapht, Mantra, Dialectrix, Pegz, Delta, Muph and Plutonic, Phrase, Spit Syndicate, Forthwrite, Bliss N Eso, NFA, Illy, 13th Son and Nine High……we could easily stop there.

Good Gracious is concofinay of hip hop styles riding under the one banner that is producer extraordinaire M-Phazes. Good Gracious takes you on a musical tour of the Australian Hip Hop landscape leaving no destination unvisited. Dirty drums, banging bass, electric guitar riffs, layers thicker then 5 day old milk, electro pop and a few beer glasses…it sounds like the remnants of a big night out, but it’s something quite different…

For a debut album M-Phazes has gone far and beyond any expectations. To bring together 15 artists on any one project is a mean feet in itself, but to deliver quality on track after track is something to be applauded. M-Phazes uses the huge variety of artists to his advantage and presents an album packed with personality and style. Good Gracious crushes your preconceptions early and reaffirms M-Phazes hunger for creativity and originality.

..I know this kid whose been digging through the crates for ages, born and raised gold coast of all places, ordinary joe goes by the name of Mark better know to most as M-Phazes….

The opening track For What It’s Worth featuring Horrorshow emcee Solo quickly brings the un-knowledged M-Phazes listener up to speed. This soulful boom-bap styled track quickly builds pace, craftily weaving the habits of a die-hard emcee with the unrelenting drive of a budding producer.
M-Phazes teams up with Mantra, on the appropriately titled track The Freak Show. Mantra is lyrically dangerous and implacably flawless (be sure to check out his debut solo release Power Of The Spoken) but M-Phazes and his DJ lead carnival style drum band is a beat to behold.

..we come from the streets and move on the pavement and you still don’t recognise truth in my statement, this bad blood needs purification slash my wrist and spill it on the music of Phazes….

Blind Man with Obese head honcho Pegz, features a brilliant little sample taken from Traffic’s track of the same name. This raw gritty track holds nothing back, it’s Pegz at his finest. Music Box places Phrase in a Justice inspired, electro pop layered beat. This track brings a unique flavor to an already massively diverse album. As we progress through the CD it becomes more evident that M-Phazes is a man on a musical mission, it’s time to pack away those headphones, play this album loud.

Tracks such as Goodbye Gravity, Triumph, Home, Take It From Me and That’s What We On are stand outs that break from their stereotypical shackles. Every note on Good Gracious has been meticulously arranged, every sample throughly searched for, every detail firmly scrutinized. Quality is the overall theme here and M-Phazes successful hits the nail on the head. While many production albums leave you feeling like it’s a rinse and repeat process, Good Gracious is in no uncertain terms a delectable audio feast.

This album has a little something for everyone, frist class production, first class emcees and first class craftsmanship. Good Gracious is a true snap shot of the Australian Hip Hop scene , taken through the eyes of M-Phazes. We give M-Phazes Good Gracious a plump and healthy 4.7.

Brooklyn Bridge – Bekay feat. Masta Ace (Prod. by M-Phazes)

20 02 2010

Australian producer M-Phazes is set to drop an absolute banger in the form of his production album Good Gracious. It will feature some of Australia’s top emcees including Drapht, Bliss N Eso, Phrase, Illy, Pegz, Muph n Plutonic, Delta, Solo, Spit Syndicate, Dialectrix, Mantra, Nfa, Nine High, Forthwrite (360 n Pez), 13th Son and Haunts. Good Gracious will be out on February 26 through Obese Records (check the previous post we did regarding this release here). If your not already excited, then here’s something to wet your appetite. M-Phazes recently produced a track for US emcee Bekay feat. Masta Ace. The track “Brooklyn Bridge”, which you can stream below or purchase on iTunes, is a prime example of why M-Phazes – Good Gracious will be one of 2010′s most exciting albums.
The Brookylyn Bridge remix is featured on The Hunger Pains Remix EP from Bekay. The remix EP, which dropped Feb. 9 through the Brooklyn-based indie Coalmine Records also features three other remixes that include production and features from DJ Babu, DJ Qvali, Dilated Peoples, Sha Stimuli and Push! Montana.

Matt Diamond, head of Coalmine Records, had this to say regarding the release of The Hunger Pains Remix EP.
“As a label, Coalmine places a strong emphasis on the producer as well as the artist and there’s not a better way to breath new life into a previously existing record than by creating a remix. The idea to release The Hunger Pains Remix EP is inspired largely from the days of when classic albums would be followed up with a 12″ or vinyl EP that would contain otherwise nearly impossible to find remixes. The concept of collecting and ‘digging’ for those hard to find gems is an element of the culture that has shifted from record stores to downloads. Although the experience has changed, the end result is the same…dope music.”

Tracklisting
1. I Am (Remix) feat. Dilated Peoples
2. I Am [Nodfactor.com Remix] (prod. by DJ Qvali)
3. Brooklyn Bridge [Part II] feat. Sha Stimuli & Push! Montana
4. Brooklyn Bridge feat. Masta Ace (M-Phazes Remix)

P.R – Pre Heated (Free Download)

10 02 2010

After 7 months in the making, the very hard-working Sydney producer P.R has completed the much-anticipated mixtape Pre-Heated hosted by the world-famous New York based DJ/Producer extraordinaire ‘Statik Selektah’.
Pre-Heated is a sample based Hip-Hop project, which brings forth a clash between a range of different genre/styles, fusing Soul and Jazz into production that would make the gods smile. What makes this project so unique is that each track has its own vibe and sound, such as one track gives listeners a gritty raw underground feel, while another track gives the listeners a relaxed soulful feel to just kick and nod their head to.
Pre-Heated boasts 13 solid tracks including the lead single “Better Off” with Sydney’s own 13th Son & Carlos “C-Major” Velasquez, “This The” featuring Staten Islands, NY, JoJo Pellegrino, Jon Conner & Sound Kamp’s The Iron Ghost, as well as appearances from Naledge from Kidz in the Hall (US), Chaundon from the Hall of Justus (US), Mystro (UK), Vice Versah (US), Adelaide’s very own R&B superstar Carla Waye, Melbourne’s Hip-Hop/Soul duo Cee & Bekah And many, many more.
“The title speaks for itself, this project will warm my listeners up and prepare them for my major album”, as quoted by P.R.
This first installment from P.R will give all listeners a taste of what’s to come, making way for the debut album The Chopping Board.

Track List
Intro (Feat. Statik Selektah)
Curtains Up (Feat. Real Life)
The OZ Connect (Feat. Vice Versah)
Give It To You (Feat. Chaundon, Naledge & Carla Waye)
Aight Den (Feat. Mystro, Jargon & DJ Thor)
In Time (Feat. Cee & Bekah)
This The (Feat. JoJo Pellegrino, Jon Conner & T.I.G)
Ugly (Feat. Jacob Quest & Insyte)
Nothin’ Nice (Feat. Stiks)
This Ones For You (Feat. Starr Nyce)
Better Off (Feat. 13th Son & C-Major)
All Day Long (Feat. Notion & Tommy Gunnz)
Not Like Me (Feat. Illnigma)

This is what P.R had to say about the track Better Off, featuring 13th Son and C-Major.
“I approached 13th Son through Myspace in late 2008/early 2009 because I felt 13th sons style suited my style of production more than any artist I had met in Sydney. My first approach was to get 13th Son on a track for a new album, which has now turned into my pre-album mixtape, due to a change of plans. After much talk, planning and going through the process of this collaboration, the result was a track that 13th Son wrote called ‘Better Off’. I had an idea to not only attract radios, but giving it a bit of a commercial feel, and that idea came with getting urban artist Israel on it, to sing the hook and bridge. That didn’t work out due to Israel having other commitments, but I met another urban artist through Israel called ‘Carlos Velasquez a.k.a C-Major’, which heard the track and immediately loved it, a week or 2 later, he came up with his parts, recorded them and sent them to me to mix. The result is what you hear on the track”.

You can download the track ‘Better Off’ by following the link here, or head here to grab the full Pre-Heated mixtape. The track Better Off does have a commercial feel, so if that’s not your thing, we suggest checking out a few other tracks on the list like, Aight Den and The OZ Connect feat. Boston emcee Vice Versah. Full covers below.

MC Whisper – New Album ‘ In Good Company’ 2010

3 12 2009

Melbourne-based MC Whisper, has just released a new video clip. MC Whisper had a quick chat with allaussie hip hop and he had this to say:

“I’m really excited about the clip, cos we’ve been workin on it for a minute! The track is called, ‘Stand Up’, and the beat was produced by M-Phazes, featuring Lee Sissing on the hook. It also features a whole bunch of the Obese Records fam.”

It’s a bit of a milestone for me, as I’ve been producing beats for other hip-hop peeps for the last 4 years, since my group Equills released their LP,The New Threat‘. So, it’s finally time that I stepped back up to the mic and this clip is just the beginning!

His production can be found throughout the Australian hip-hop scene, as he has worked with the likes of Skyzoo (USA), M-Phazes, Pegz, Count Bounce (TZU),13th Son, to name only a handful!

Whilst he does have his roots in the urban music scene, his production work has extended throughout genres of music not usually equated to a hip-hop producer, such as soul, folk and pop, with artists such as Amiel, and Nomi (Hercules and Love Affair).

In between producing, writing and recording for other talented musicians, Whisper has been on his grind putting together a FREE album, In Good Company. Which will feature a heap of collabs with some amazing local emcees, vocalists and producers.

Check out the Stand Up clip below, Whisper seems to be bring some heat, with M-Phazes working his magic on the beat, stay tuned for more on this!
