Ribongia – Play My Hits

19 04 2013

Ribongias (Antonio Rosselli) music is an exploded technical drawing for the ears. Referencing a vast array of pop culture mediums, his sounds are collected and layered until, like light fragmenting through a crystal prism, they enter the aural sphere; chaos ensues.

Play My Hits Ribongia

The lead single off of Ribongia’s EP of the same name Play My Hits sees the Sydney’s finest Italian musical import launching headlong into the dark heart of Beats, with a twisted melange of raw bass, chopped and screwed vocals, sparkling synths, and chunky beats, all with that signature Ribongia sense of barely controlled mayhem. This is music made to be played loud, and enjoyed with wild abandon.

Also included as a bonus is a remix of the single from Melbourne beatsmith Able8.

Tom Showtime – Original Recipes

17 04 2013

Tom Showtime is a man of many guises. DJ. Producer. Remixer. Saxophonist. Gramophone Enthusiast. From Be-Bop to Breakbeat and everything in between, Tom’s passion for music is paralleled only by his legendary (some would say mythical) enjoyment of watermelon, coffee and cricket. That’s just how he rolls.

ORIGINAL recipes

2013 has seen Tom getting a taste for rocking bigger dance floors and in turn producing bigger tunes. This is gaining him international recognition through a series of releases championed by legendary UK label Ghetto Funk, resulting in a four track Artist EP and him being added to the roster. Add to this his collaboration with DJ Maars ‘The Chippa Irie EP’ on Booty Fruit reaching #1 on Juno Download Best Selling Chart and it’s easy to see why his sound is flavour of the month…

N’fa Jones – Live On

15 04 2013

N’fa Jones, still highly regarded for his work in his first outfit 1200 Techniques, is back in action. Having moved back to Australia just over a year ago following a few years journeying and writing music abroad, N’fa has already released his Babylondon EP with the stop-motion video for March On. Featured on 360′s Hope You Dont Mind, Drapht’s triple j hit singles Bali Party & 1990′s, as well as Nick Thayer’s OWSLA release Like Boom which charted for 10 weeks at #1 on beatport.

N'Fa Jones Live On

Having just wrapped from the 22 date Uni-Verse Australian tour with Drapht, N’fa has returned home with a new song and video from his forthcoming LP set to be released later this year on Draphts imprint label The Ayems. Live On was written with Melbourne beatsmith Sensible J Smith, and mixed by Dave Dogg Atkins of The Resin Doggs. The video, directed by Nic Mcrobbie, was shot around midnight after a tour show in Sydney. With a full album in mixing stages, N’fa refers to Live On as a teaser, and not an official single, we are excited to see what atomic bomb like introspective retrospective soul N’fa will bring to Hip Hop this year.

I was chillin’ in Smiddys lounge room.. The music took me to a place that I hadn’t visited in a long time, and needed to go to. Its a place I had been afraid to visit, as I had never found resolution there, until now. For me, “Live On” is a reflective self realisation piece that I really do love, which resulted as a sensitive and true song that I hope you will appreciate.
Making the video was amazing ,in that it happened in a split decision after a show. What you see was pieced together from a one shot, filmed in the wee hours on Sydney’s beautiful coastline, and a series of short clips Nic captured in and around the city over the same weekend. Goes to show what you can do with a little know-how and a lot of heart”. – N’Fa

Music: Written and Arranged by N’fa Jones. Produced by Sensible J Smith. Mixed and Mastered by Dave Dogg Atkins
Video: Directed, Shot and Edited by Nic McRobbie

With Spit Syndicate’s singles Beauty In The Bricks and Folly getting a lot of JJJ love, as well as Jackie Onassis’s single Crystal Balling being on high rotation for many months, and their new single from their Holiday EP, Smoke Trails being added a few weeks ago the Sunday Gentlemen tour is no doubt going to be epic. 2013 is set to be a massive year for these boys from the inner west of Sydney, with both acts also being announced as part of the huge Come Together line up in June.

Joining them in Adelaide will be our very own Koolta, winner of the 2011 Hilltop Hoods Initiative.  With tickets still available, we don’t know what else you’d rather be doing on a Thursday night in Adelaide. Go here to get them.

Spit Syndicate are also playing as a part of the Movement Festival alongside acts like Nas, Bliss N Eso, Joey Badass, Chiddy Bang, Diafrix and Iggy Azalea. Jimmy Nice chatted to us a few weeks ago about Sunday Gentlemen and the Movement festival tour, peep that here.

True Vibenation releases project through USBs in city walls

11 04 2013

Across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane there are USBs embedded into walls and buildings in public spaces. Inspired by artists such as Banksy and Isaac Cordal Sydney band True Vibenation decided to release Standby [Project USB] using the guerrilla offline sharing technique, concreting USBs to the wall and marking their locations on their website while on the road for the Standby Tour.

Find the USBs, attach your laptop or take a photo and upload it to the band’s facebook to receive a download of the full project and a shoutout in the next True Vibenation album due for release on Big Village Records in late 2013. True Vibenation’s Standby Tour is as much a music tour as it is a guerilla installation art experiment. The Project blurs the lines between online and offline file sharing. The USBs are placed to give fans an interactive experience of discovering new music, while they are also open to potential manipulation by the user.

Made up of twin brothers Verbaleyes and Native Wit and childhood friend Klue, True Vibenation has emerged as one of the most innovative groups on the hip hop scene with the diversity of their sound and an electrifying live show that sees them shed the traditional live hip hop format of two turntables and a microphone and transform in to a blasting horn section and live beatmaking band.

Kerser – ‘We Here Now’ feat. Rates

1 04 2013

Kerser returns in 2013, this time teaming up with brother and best mate, Rates for We Here Now. Having dropped last Sunday 24th March, the stand alone single is now available on iTunes as a digital 3 track package, including radio edit, instrumental and accapella.

Kerser Rates We Here Now

This past year has been intense for the Campbelltown emcee. With increased notoriety, Kerser has endured the biggest transition of his life, not to mention the most isolating. We Here Now is a rags-to-riches tale, contrasting between an optimistic present and days survived. On writing and performing with Rates: “It’s the best ay. ‘Cause he’s my brother, but he’s my best mate. So it’s a dream come true, we’ve both been working together for years and years. We both think the same.” – Kerser

With production by long-time beat benefactor Nebs, We Here Now is upbeat and features old-school samples and heavy drums. Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to his No Rest For the Sickest Tour early this year, Kerser, along with Rates, hit the road again, this time focusing on regional areas all across the country . The We Here Now Tour will commence in June of 2013. Dates and further info to be announced soon.
