Savo – Worth The Wait

21 04 2013

In a time of fly-by-night internet sensations, Savo’s defiance of deadlines defines him almost as significantly as his music. Despite collecting an impressive number of accolades and fans along the past 8 years, Savo has yet to present his debut full-length release, the aptly titled, Worth The Wait.

Savo_Worth-The-Wait_Front__500px

A solid 12 months in the making, the 20 track offering will be ready April 15th to satisfy his salivating fanbase. The first taste of the release, the brashly titled, Fucks Goin On , garnered over 1500 Facebook shares, and a mighty 50 000 soundcloud plays within a meagre 28 days. Add that to his existing youtube and soundcloud statistics and you’ll realise that the North Queensland based artist is within weeks of cracking the million mark. As if that wasn’t enough numbers, his sombre anthem Zachary’s Song reached #1 on Triple j’s hallowed unearthed charts.

Looking past the stats, Savo’s sound is an intriguing blend of paradoxes. Raw, yet polished; Brash but vulnerable. There is no safesound to Savo; he confidently explores all aspects of artistic expression across Worth The Wait proudly presenting himself as authentically as one can.

Able8 x Wisdom2th – The Only Thing

8 04 2013

Wisdom2th (pronounced ‘wisdom tooth’) is a musician/comedic performer currently residing in Perth, Western Australia. Wisdom2th is known for two distinct qualities: firstly, his phenomenal afro; and secondly, the fact that he is a highly proficient multi-instrumentalist and accomplished emcee and beatmaker.

The Only Thing

Wisdom2th has worked with numerous artists including Marksman, ASAP, The Anonymous, RhymeAudial, FG, G.B.X and the list goes on. A producer in the true sense of the word, Wisdom2th has constructed, arranged, co-written, recorded, mixed and mastered tunes for a wide range of artists in a wide range of genres from the comfort of his personal studio space. As an artist, Wisdom2th’s musical style ranges from glitchy computer driven madness to chilled out old soul sounds. Truthfully, though, he goes wherever the music wants to take him. But isn’t that what makes music something that’s worth doing?

Able8 is a prominent music producer and beatmaker based in Melbourne, Australia. He has been writing and performing songs in various forms over the past 9 years. His own label Uncomfortable Beats sheds light on Australias under-exposed music scene, and his crew The Operatives import the best world talent onto Australian shores. Musically, Able8 creates beats that often fuse the Hip-Hop world with the EDM world. Crusty samples are often layered over heavy electronic bass lines with catchy melodies, and hard swinging drums. Each and every year Ables style organically evolves and grows, as does his forever expanding roster of word-wide collaborators.

Able8 and Wisdom2th combine to present this brand new track titled The Only Thing. Check it out below.

Kings Konekted – The Campaign

2 04 2013

Looming at the edge of the underworld’s shadow, Kings Konekted pass off copies of their debut EP The Campaign under a jacketed arm: six tracks of street corner discussions and heavyweight production by Stricknine (Thirstin Howl, Tim Dog, KRS One), Prowla  and Trem. These are tales of treachery, trust and hidden malefactions conducted in broad daylight.

Kings Konekted Campaign cover
Partners in crime from an early age, Indigenous Australian/Italian Dontez and Serbian/Australian Culprit forged their bond through exposure to the self-perpetuating cycle of violence and crime devouring the western suburbs of Brisbane. Bearing witness to a crumbling community, Kings Konekted illuminate the visceral, ugly reality that passers by prefer to ignore. Theirs is a world hidden in plain sight; one ruled by a code of silence, dirty money and thirst for respect.

Production of The Campaign is handled by elder statesmen Stricknine, Prowla and Trem. Standout tracks include the frenetic Repertoire, hostile opener Good Blood and Handshakes, and the intricately layered Debts and Conflicts.

On lead single Repertoire, Stricknine weaves layers of ominous strings and an urgent harpsichord loop through thick drums and a foreboding bassline. Dontez delivers a ferocious rebuke, setting the stage for Lazy Grey’s scalding feature, thick with cultural references that only a veteran can deliver. Culprit’s final verse is a searing warning to pretenders to the throne, with Stricknine’s precision cuts demonstrating his trademark flair for sample selection.

KingsKonekted4
“It’s the winners, losers, beggars, choosers, innocent and guilty, dealers and the users: we’ve sewn up this industry and started from a thread.”

The sinister atmosphere of Good Blood and Handshakes, followed by the sharp ambush of The Round Table (feat. Brad Strut) displays Prowla’s cavernous and impenetrable production at its best. ‘Secular Security’ (feat. MF Grimm) draws us inexorably towards The Campaign’s standout, Repertoire. Typically refined and densely layered production from Trem on The Standard and Debts and Conflicts brings the EP to a chilling close, with Stricknine’s cuts slicing to the bones.

Kings Konekted garnered a cult following among fans and hip hop luminaries alike with their 2009 pre-album release Trails to the Underlair  They are the only Australian group to be signed to Class A Records, whose alumni include MF Grimm and Thirstin Howl III, and were the only up and coming artists featured on Trem’s seminal For The Term Of His Natural Life LP.

The Campaign will be released nationally on CD and iTunes on April 19. An extremely limited run of vinyl will be available for online pre-orders and in selected independent stockists. Kings Konekted will tour with Trem for his national album launch in 2013.
