Taylor Made Tactix – Uninvited Guests

24 06 2012

Introducing Taylor Made Tactix (TMT), the Hip Hop 4 from the southern suburbs of Adelaide consisting of MC’s Mesha, Mnops and Senca along with veteran Australian Turntablist DJ Snair (Social Change, Cross Bred Mongrels, BattleHoggs).

TMT’s journey begins at Morphett Vale High School in 2001 where MC Mesha would frequent ciphers with Johny C and Eckles building up steam in local battles. It was in these freestyle circuits where Mnops would appear all guns blazing, eventually joining the TM team along with MC Senca (formally of Peripheral Visions). By 2006 TMT began making their presence known in the local scene delivering boom-bap rap and engaging crowds as humble, unknown mcs with an evident passion for their art.

DJ Snair on the otherhand needs no introduction… As a DMC and ITF state champion and 3 times DMC national runner up, Snair has not only dominated turntable competitions for years, but has toured and played shows extensively across Australia.  In 2007 DJ Snair saw the young TM team performing. He acquired their demo CD and soon after joined the group, at which point they began writing and recording their first official album for release on Adelaide’s Butterthief imprint.

TMTs collective nature and hard work has since resulted in a sound that is effortless and without typical identity. The music reflects a certain honest outlook and the focus is clearly on the self expression of the artists with no need for special effect. There in begins the fully formed Taylor Made Tactix crew.

Purpose – If The City Had A Voice Pt. 2

30 05 2011

Adelaide emcee/producer and Pagen Elypsis member, Purpose has recently released a cracking mixtape tilted If The City Had A Voice Pt. 2. A lot of things have happened in the Purpose camp since the release of his first mixtape release If The City Had A Voice a few years ago.

Leading up to If The City Had a Voice Pt. 2Purpose has put out 5 releases both as solo artist and as an integral part of group efforts, toured the country and continued to grow both in and out of the studio as he honed his skills. This mixtape serves as a pre-cursor to his debut solo album Where It Starts dropping late 2012.

Released both as a free digital download and also as a sweet packaged hardcopy release (design by April77), If The City Had A Voice Pt. 2 has all the hallmarks of full LP release, shunning that sometimes ugly mixtape/free release stigma. The album with its 15 tracks, captures a point in hip hop that some still dreamed of living. In part a collaborative effort with DJ Hacksaw (Pagen Elypsis, Battlehoggs, Train of Thought), If The City Had A Voice Pt 2 is made up of a handful of original music with some beat-jacks thrown in for good measure.

The opening track If The City Had A.. sets the stage in its sharp delivery and hard-hitting verses. While The Whole World Sleeps chills back for a minute, Purpose seems at his best when his flow is relaxed and controlled. Purps also dons the producing hat throughout the album with some impressive results. Where I’m Comin From, 6 In The Mornin’ and All Over The World feat. Kilenm & Arkaic really highlight the dynamic skills of this dedicated and hard-working artist.

There’s some great features throughout the whole album, fellow Pagen Elypsis member Prime shows up on the track Remember and US artists Kilenm & Arkaic feature on All Over The World. The previously mentioned track 6 In The Mornin’ plus Faded and Every Rose (produced by Eslev) are some of the albums highlights. Aforementioned and PE member Motive chips in for killer verse on the track 10.59PM. We also see a few remixes tie out If The City A Voice Pt 2 including the Pagen Elypsis track One Hit Away (Zarkov Remix) and an amazing remix of the Hilltop Hoods track Still Standing.

Purpose has set out to make 2011 a year to remember, with all that hard work set to pay off. If The City Had A Voice Pt. 2 is a taste of whats to come, then we’re all ready to eat. Purpose’ relaxed and controlled delivery is one of his strongest assets, combined with his production skills Purpose is set to bring a release packed with quality and style when his Where It Starts LP drops at the end of the year. Stay fixed!

allaussie hip hop spotlight on: Motion

3 02 2011

Motion’s involvement in hip-hop began when he hit the scene as a B-boy in 2000. Once realising his skills in freestyling and lyricism, he entered the battle circuit and won virtually every battle held in Adelaide over a 2 year period, winning SA’s MC Battle For Supremacy and ending up as a runner up nationally in 2005.

Motion is a part of Adelaide favourites Adroit Effusive, an 8 man crew that has been active since the early 2000s. He released a demo with fellow Adroit member Bornski called Introducing in 2003, and Adroit soon followed up by releasing the 2 part vinyl EP collection which included crowd favourite Moeshzilla & King Kongseps. The crew recently completed and released The Album, their first full length CD. Motion’s solo joint off The Album has since been nominated for Ozhiphop.com’s Best Track of 2010.

Motion has been involved in music with some of the country’s best and most well known. He was personally recommended for work by the UK’s Mark B and Adelaide’s Delta, landing him a spot on the diabolical 2006 posse cut The End Is Here, featuring Prowla (Nuffsaid) and Trem (Lyrical Commission). His verse was compared to Nas’ first appearance on the Main Source classic Live At The Barbeque. Motion was the first MC to feature on the original Battlehoggs tapes alongside Conseps, inadvertently naming the crew. He recently recorded two standout verses for Dialect & Despair’sThe Vortex, which has been dubbed classic by Australian media and fans alike.

Motion is not only recognised as a talented recording artist, but as having undeniable stage presence. He has stood tall when performing across the globe with names such as Masta Ace, The Beatnuts, Edo G, DJ Premier, Kool Keith, Delta & Mark B, Dedlee, Lyrical Commission, Jehst and Def Wish Cast; amongst many others.

Motion is currently working on The Motion Picture, his debut LP. Due out in 2011, the album is already highly anticipated, being spoken about by some of Australia’s current biggest names. Featuring production from Delta, Simplex (Terra Firma) and P-Body, The Motion Picture is sure to find its place as an Australian classic. In the meantime, you can check for another solid Motion guest verse on Simplex’s solo debut Audio Biography.
