Young & Dumb feat. Bertie Blackman

15 10 2012

Chance Waters is set to burst back onto the Australian music scene with his sophomore record Infinity, due out November 2, 2012 (Permanent Records/Shock). His debut album Inkstains saw him crowned a triple j unearthed featured artist and touring the country regularly, both as a headline act and in support of Australian mainstays such as Bliss N Eso, Illy, Drapht, Pez & 360, and international heavy-weights including Method Man & Redman, DJ Premier and The Beatnuts.

On the back of an enormously successful lead single Maybe Tomorrow which saw high rotation on triple j, an international theme song sync on National Geographic’s ‘Doomsday Preppers’ and a video clip which scored Indie Of The Week on rage, Chance returns with Young & Dumb. Young & Dumb is the second single to be taken from Infinity and features enchanting Australian songstress Bertie Blackman. The song was produced by recent hit machine One Above (Illy, Hilltop Hoods/Sia) and has just been added to playlist on triple j.

On the collaboration with Bertie Blackman: Chance Waters has always been a big fan of Bertie Blackman’s work, and in a strange coincidence, her new single went to radio on exactly the same day as Maybe Tomorrow, the first single lifted from Infinity. With the song concept in mind, Chance needed the right female vocalist to complete the track. He felt Bertie and himself were moving in parallel directions with their production, sound and unusual pop aesthetic. After numerous Skype conversations and emails, a friendship was forged, and the rest is history.

Bertie Blackman and Chance Waters are currently working on an ambitious crowd sourced Young & Dumb video concept. In celebration of the already successful release of Young & Dumb, Chance Waters is happy to announce he will be hitting the road in October and November, kicking things off in dusty Darwin on October 19. Full dates below, with supports to be announced soon! If you’d like to be in the film clip for Young & Dumb, check out all the details here

Chance Waters – Young & Dumb feat. Bertie Blackman

20 09 2012

Chance Waters has come back swinging with Young & Dumb, the under-your-skin-catchy follow up single featuring enchanting Australian songstress, Bertie Blackman, which was exclusively premiered on triple j’s Good Nights with Linda Marigliano tonight.

On the seemingly unlikely collaboration, Chance Waters explained that once he had the song concept in mind, he needed the right female vocalist to complete the track. He felt that Bertie Blackman and he were moving in parallel paths in their production, their sound and unusual pop aesthetic. After numerous Skype conversations and e-mails, a friendship was forged and thus commenced this exciting collaboration.

With production from recent hit machine One Above (Hilltop Hoods – I Love It, Illy – Heard It All) who also takes credit behind the boards for his work on Maybe Tomorrow and featuring horns and strings by members of Unearthed darlings Lime Cordiale & Cogel, the collaboration is seemingly pre-destined to be one of the biggest songs this summer.

Bertie Blackman and Chance Waters are currently working on an ambitious Young & Dumb video concept together.

Young & Dumb will be available to purchase on iTunes tomorrow, Friday September 21.

Spit Syndicate, The Tongue, Chasm & Vida Concert

19 11 2009

Three of NSW premier acts are teaming up to see 2009 off with a massive night of aussie hip-hop and reggae-infused jams. On Friday  December 18 @ the Oxford Art Factory,  Spit Syndicate, The Tongue and Chasm & Vida Sunshyne hit the stage for what is sure to be one of the biggest nights on the local music calendar.

After bursting onto the aussie hip hop scene last year with an ARIA-nominated album and two national tours, Sydney wonderkids Spit Syndicate have been relatively quiet in 2009 as they prepare their sophomore record. They are breaking their 12-month hiatus with their first headline show of 2009, showcasing some new material (dope) as well as rocking the crowd with some established favourites. Accompanied by the larger than life DJ Joyride, the Spit Syndicate live performance involves banging beats, live instrumentation and a whole lot of energy.

The Tongue is one of Sydney’s most celebrated emcees. Initially known for his freestyle/battle skills he was quickly snapped up by iconic hip hop label Elefant Traks and has since released an EP, mixtapes and a full length album Shock And Awe. The Tongue has collaborated with the likes of Urthboy, Bertie Blackman, Katalyst, The Bag Raiders, Muph And Plutonic + many more, and supported international acts such as Dizzie Rascal, Pharoahe Monch and Public Enemy. His latest mixtape The Tongue Is Dead can be downloaded for free here and his much-anticipated second album will be released in 2010. (Which we can’t wait for).

Chasm and Vida Sunshyne have recently released one of 2009′s most groundbreaking records, Move, a critically-acclaimed album which traverses the global spectrum of soul, reggae, and hip hop. Sydney-based producer-extraordinaire Chasm (of Beyond the Beat Tape and Astronomy Class fame) has teamed with -by-way-of-Ghanas Vida-Sunshyne, a powerful and extremely talented performer who has spent the last year touring the world with the Mista Savona Band. Together they are an electric collaboration of musical talent; and their dynamic, genre-smashing live show is an experience not to be missed.

This will be one concert not to miss this year!! You can grab tickets here.

Speaking to Zan on Mornings Phrase said: “I hope I haven’t let the cat out of the bag here. I think she’s doing a bunch of remixes for the album and they asked me to do something with it so I’m going to try and remix a song, put some verses on it and kind of put my touch to it.” Phrase and Bertie Blackman are nominated for Australian Album of the Year in the 2009 J Awards.
