New Music: Mr Hill & Rahjconkas – ‘Dead End Street’ feat. Muph

31 03 2013

After a highly productive debut year in 2012, March 2013 sees the 2nd single release for one of local hip hop’s hardest working up and coming duo’s Mr Hill & Rahjconkas. In the space of one year they have firmly made a place for themselves in the industry and gained respect and accolades from genre veterans.

Dead End Street feat. Muph

2013 is shaping up to be no different. Since the release of their first single in October 2012 Put The Work In, popularity for this young duo has gained increasingly. Being chosen by triple j unearthed to play at Brisbane’s hiphop festival Sprung, saw the boys perform on a major platform with overwhelming support.

These “Next Crop” artists are back with their latest single and title track to the new release. Dead End Street. An energetic brass section with catchy vocal samples line a once again powerful chorus delivered by Rahjconkas. Again showing their solidarity with veteran artists, Australian hip hop legend Muph (Muph & Plutonic) has thrown a guest verse down for this single. Speaking about where he has come from as an artist to where he is now.

With Mr Hill being based in Brisbane QLD, and Rahjconkas in Wagga Wagga NSW, collaborating is always difficult. But with several short trips to each other’s homes this album has again come together quite easily in the space of 10 months. Proving to the critics their constant drive and work ethic. Set to release May 17th around the country, this is the second taste of what this new and highly anticipated album will sound like. High energy, charismatic, yet at times deep and thought provoking.

Mr Hill is currently on tour until April with his best friend Seven as they travel the country supporting Australian icon Drapht on his uni-verse tour. They are again planning on hitting the road in June on their own headline tour to all major capital cities following the release of Dead End Street.

Vegas Aces – The Departure EP

15 06 2012

Amidst the mayhem that was touring with Australian sensation, 360 and heading straight back on the road with label mates Seven and Mr Hill, Vegas Aces have managed to craft an EP touted as ‘next level’ by the local hip hop scene.

The Departure is VA’s coming of age, both lyrically from emcee 4th and in the production from Cam Bluff, who is fast becoming Australia’s man to beat behind the boards. The two clearly set out to craft their own sound in making The Departure, a title directly related to a change in sound since their debut, VA All Day. The boys called on Adelaide stalwarts and fellow up and comers, Prime and Purpose as the only features for this release on the futuristic Nebula. Following Day Dreams (feat. Kaysie Rowe), the second single taken from The Departure is All That Shines.

Proven to be a success live, All That Shines is a raucous portrayal of 4th’s view on his standing within the Australia music scene. VA celebrate the launch of their website with The Departure EP, available for free download NOW. Tongue in cheek as always and accompanied by world class production, Vegas Aces truly are the next benchmark of local hip hop.

Born Fresh Records is hosting one hell of a block party and you’re invited! This weekend, June 16, Coniston Lane in Fortitude Valley will be hosting the very cream of the Brisbane hip hop crop with sets from Rainman, Seven, Mr Hill & Rajconkas, Crate Creeps, Vegas Aces, Prophet Rayza along with many other special guests. Prophet Rayza: “This Is” film clip [6 Books EP]

12 01 2011

This is the official film clip for This Is, the lead single off Prophet Rayza’s (QLD) debut EP Six Books. Released November 12th 2010 on Born Fresh Records and distributed nationally by MGM.

For ten years now Prophet Rayza has been a stronghold in the Australian Hip Hop scene perfecting his talents across the four elements of Hip Hop as an emcee, breakdancer, graffiti artist and beatboxer. His passion for the art form stems from his first train trip from Brisbane to Melbourne at five years of age, when he first saw graffiti and told his mother when he grew up that he would do it too. At 16 he was exposed to Hip Hop through graffiti and soon after became a bboy (breakdancer). At this point in time, rhyming was second to break dancing and purely a hobby.

As the years passed and he perfected his craft, his natural ability as a performer through break dancing led him to pick up a microphone and hypnotize the crowd in a whole new way. As anyone who has been to one of his live show can attest, Prophet Rayza is one of the most vibrant and energetic performers in the country. With a passion and drive for perfection, Prophet Rayza draws from his musical inspiration the likes of Nas, Rakim, Ice T, KRS One and Wu Tang Clan.

His performance past reads like a who’s who of Hip Hop having performed alongside such greats as Grandmaster Flash, DJ Q-Bert, Kool Keith, Lord Finesse, Grandmaster Roc Raida, Q-Unique, MC Supernatural, Talib Kweli and local legends Def Wish Cast, Muph and Plutonic, Drapht and the list goes on. In 2009 he released the Spits and Pieces mixtape which went on to move all of the limited 5,000 copies pressed within two months of its release (and over 650 downloads to date) and was Nominated for Oz Hip Hop Awards “Mixtape of the Year” 2009.

Recently releasing his debut EP Six Books on Born Fresh Records, Rayza has worked with some of this countries and abroads most up and coming producers including Daneja (pronounced Danger) from New York (production for Kool G Rap, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Joell Ortiz), Dats of The Optimen (production for Thiristin Howl III, The Optimen, Pure Product), Tommy Illfigga and DJ Butcher of Crate Creeps (production for Mantra, Thundamentals, Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated Peoples) and Cam Bluff of Vegas Aces (production for Spit Syndicate, The Tongue, Raven), you can be sure to expect big things from one of Australian Hip Hops fastest rising stars.

Prophet Rayza – 6 Books (Nov 12th)

25 10 2010

Following the enormous success of The Spits and Pieces Mixtape (moving ALL 5,000 units within two months of its release, and over 650 downloads to date) Prophet Rayza returns with his latest offering 6 Books on Born Fresh Records.
Comprising of 6 original tracks composed by 6 different producers, 6 Books is themed around 6 being a perfect number mathematically, hence the writing of 6 Books depicting the ways of the world as seen through the eyes and pen of a Prophet.
The first single This Is, produced by Cam Bluff is your classic boom-bap drum driven hip hop anthem portraying Prophet Rayza’s passion for hip hop in its purest form, and how the culture can make you feel empowered in the worst of life’s situations.

The second single The Lesson, produced by Daneja (NY) is a story of two men leading very different lives at the opposite ends of the scale only to find out they have more in common than they think. Featuring the smooth and soulful vocal talents of HUA (lead singer of Brisbane reggae band Darky Roots); The Lesson is classic storytelling for a modern world.

Featuring guest appearances from Hua (Darky Roots), Tommy Illfigga and Adverse and production from some of the most up and coming beat makers from here and abroad including – Daneja (NY), DATS of The Optimen, Tommy Illfigga and DJ Butcher of The Crate Creeps, Cam Bluff of Vegas Aces and Prophet Rayza.

allaussie spotlight on: Cam Bluff

15 09 2010

If you haven’t heard the name Cam Bluff of late, then you surely haven’t been paying enough attention. 2010 has seen Cam Bluff produce some of this years most impressive beats with no intention of slowing the pace. We take a deeper look into the past, present and future of this amazing producer.

Past
Cam Bluff
born (18/02/1989) grew up in Kwazulu Natal (South Africa). Cam was always surrounded by music and heavily influenced by the country’s culture and people. He was constantly surrounded by music having both an aunt and grandma who were both music teachers. He was always into sports and from this, found hip hop through skateboarding videos.
After migrating to Australia in early 2001 he continued his involvement within the skateboarding scene and grew more interested in hip hop music and the production behind the genre. In his last year of school, He stumbled across a program a mate had accidentally given to him called Fruity loops. During lunchtime, whilst still at school, Cam’s mate would show him how to use Fruity loops. This is where he leant how to compile loops and to structure drum patterns.
As time passed, he later on bought himself an akai mpc2000xl after learning about the long relationship and history involved with drum machines and sampling. Keen to learn more, he then equipped himself with a turntable and records which he had bought from local thrift stores. He soon started sampling early 70’s soul/funk records, drawing inspiration from the likes of Pete Rock/CL Smooth, DJ Premier and J Dilla to name a few. Later on in 2007 he made the switch back to a computer based program called Ableton live 6, using his MPC now as a midi controller as well as a beat machine. He shortly attended sound engineering classes in early 2008 learning about the techniques involved in mixing the music he was creating.

Around the same time, Bluff started working with a couple of emcee’s from Adelaide, Purpose and Motive (Pagen Elypsis/Afore Mentioned). After sending countless amounts of beats, he managed to secure a track on their Afore Mentioned – Red October release which dropped in 08.
He later met DJ Butcher through Butchers cousin (who he was producing for at the time), Keen on working with local rappers, he soon was introduced to Publik Relationz which complied of Mr Hill and Seven, (winner of the M-Phazes comp 2010). Work on an EP quickly began. During Cam’s time working with PR, he met 4th (Pure Product) who quickly became interested in working with him. Publik Relationz EP unfortunately did not see the light of day, though Cams sound did manage to catch the ears of local rap icons, The Optimen.

After creating a bit of a buzz in late 2008, Cam Bluff was signed to Red Tape Entertainment, thus beginning a new chapter in his music career. This sparked big things for him, being given the opportunity to remix a track for the The Optimens work of art The Out Of Money Experience, which dropped this year.
During 2009 Cam contributed production towards Spit Syndicates – Exile, and Pagen Elypsis’ – One Way Ticket which both dropped this year. He also managed to secure two tracks on Rainman’s album (yet to be announced), as well as a few on Pure Products new album (due later this year/early 2011).

Present

Cam is currently working with fellow Red Tape Renegade, 4th (Pure Product) on the Vegas Aces EP which is near completion, closely being followed by an album. Hit up Vegas Ace’s Facebook here to check for upcoming gigs/shows. He is also working with former Queenslander resident and rapper Syntax (Trace Elements), working on a full length LP. Old mate Seven (Born Fresh Records/winner of M-Phazes comp) debut EP is out now and features production from himself and DJ Butcher to name a few. Cam also produced a track on The Tongue’s – Alternative Energy LP, also out now. You will also be able to find production in the near future on Raven’s (Crate Cartel) new album Ravenous dropping 2010. Afore MentionedThe 11th Hour album with the bulk of production being handled by himself and also Prophet Rayza’s6 Books dropping soonish.
Red Tape Entertainment is also working on a Red Tape remix project, which will feature production by Bluff, and others on the Red Tape Entertainment label.

Future
Bluff
is proving to be an immense competitor in the hip hop scene, already working with some of the most well-known artists around the nation, and is quickly working his way up in the industry as a respected beat maker/producer. Keep an eye and ear out for him, there’s much more to come.
Interview with Cam, more about his Vegas Aces EP with 4th coming soon.

Seven – Self Titled EP (September 10)

26 08 2010

Off the back of Seven’s success, winning the Triple J unearthed M-Phazes competition and being placed on the Triple J 2010 Hitlist, Born Fresh Records brings Australia a massive EP fresh from the beaches of the Gold Coast. The EP includes 6 exclusive full length tracks, featuring the vocal talents of such new-age Australian Icons as Michael Tomlinson (Yves Klein Blue), Joyride (Spit Syndicate) and Claire Walters.

The EP’s first single Pray exhibits smooth, laid back production with a flowing piano line, accompanied by a catchy hook & adlibs from Michael Tomlinson of the Brisbane band Yves Klein Blue. Produced by DJ Butcher (Crate Creeps), the tracks catchy chorus, modern structure and heartfelt lyricism appeals to the common man/woman, living out the ‘common’ grind.

The second single Shinkansen features a running bass line with the soulful vocal talent of Joyride (Spit Syndicate) on the hook and throughout the verses. The track, written by Seven on his travels through Japan, reflects on lost-love, relationships and personal niggles in day-to-day life.
The remainder of the EP features production from the world-class hit producer M-Phazes (Bliss n Eso, 360, Illy, Mantra), DJ Butcher (Suffa – Hilltop Hoods, Trials – Funkoars, Rakaa Iriscience – Dilated Peoples) and Adelaide talent, One Above. Taking inspiration from the beauty and trials of daily life, this Self-Titled EP gives Australia a well crafted and polished example of the natural lyricist that is Seven.

allaussie hip hop’s spotlight on: Born Fresh Records (Part 1)

30 05 2010

A vision manifested is the most apt way to describe Born Fresh Records.
Spawned by the need for a label which supplies management and promotion of quality music within the Australian Hip Hop scene Born Fresh came into being. The label itself was the brainchild of four like-minded established artists who recognised the need for a vessel that could carry and cater to the volume of rising artists within Australia’s flourishing Hip Hop scene.
Recently organising MGM distribution for all Born Fresh release’s and booking in several Australia wide tours, expect to hear big things from all Born Fresh artists in 2010.

First signed artists include The Crate Creeps (DJ Butcher & Tommy Illfigga), Seven (Triple J Unearthed M-Phazes beat comp winner), and Eloquence & Truths, with projects coming out July 2010 onwards for all artists. The first of which will be The Crate Creeps – Its About That Time, out on July 9th 2010 in all music stores Australia wide, followed shortly by Seven’s debut EP in August 2010. Tentative dates have been set for Eloquence & Truths LP spring 2010 and a Tommy Illfigga LP late 2010.

Born Fresh Records is based in Brisbane.

Below you can check out the original version of the winning track submitted by Seven, titled Possums.
To check out the final version of the track that will appear on his Sevens EP, you can head to his FB page here.
Stay tuned for more on Born Fresh Records.
