Bliss N Eso Announce New Album ‘Circus In The Sky’ + ‘House Of Dreams’ Tour

20 05 2013

The Frontier Touring Company and Illusive are excited to announce iconic hip-hop trio Bliss N Eso’s highly-anticipated return to the touring circuit this July with their House of Dreams tour. This tour announcement comes off the back of the release of Home Is Where The Heart Is - the first official single from their upcoming new album Circus In The Sky.

Bliss N Eso Circus In the Sky album cover

The six-date tour will cover all mainland capital cities in the band’s first headline tour since 2011 when they embarked on the highest-selling tour by an Australian hip-hop act. This is the first chance fans will get to experience the tracks from Circus In The Sky in the flesh, alongside the cult classics from their back catalogue. Bliss N Eso will be joined by two very special guests – Alabama’s rising star Yelawolf and local superstar Pez.

Since signing to Eminem’s Shady Records in 2011, Yelawolf has become one of the world’s most hyped emerging rap artists. In the years since, he’s released his critically acclaimed debut album Trunk Muzik and featured on tracks alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran, Big Boi, A$AP Rocky, Big K.R.I.T. and Travis Barker just to name a few.

Melbourne’s Pez made his welcome return to the spotlight in recent months with the release of his latest single The Game and is tipped for an enormous 2013. Bliss N Eso have also confirmed the release date for their upcoming new album Circus In The Sky as Friday 28 June 2013. It follows on from 2010’s hugely acclaimed Running On Air which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart and achieved platinum sales.

Solidifying their reputation as artists that love to pack as much value as possible into each release, they’ve delivered another 17-track epic with a running time of an hour. As rumoured, it features a guest appearance from New York hip-hop icon Nas on I Am Somebody – arguably their biggest feature to date. Further down the tracklisting are appearances from nomadic Melbourne soul export Daniel Merriweather on Can’t Get Rid of This Feeling and rising American singer-songwriter Ceekay Jones, whom the boys befriended on their most recent US headline tour. Possibly the most interesting inclusion on the tracklist comes via posse cut Reservoir Dogs, which features a who’s who of contemporary local hip-hop – seeing them joined by 360, Pez, Seth Sentry and Drapht.

The mysterious winged character that has inhabited the band’s two previous album covers has made its third appearance on the newly revealed ‘Circus in the Sky’ artwork, albeit in an unexpected form. Following from Steve Cross’ illustrated covers on Flying Colours and Running On Air, the band have teamed up with world-renowned digital artist Justin Maller to create a spectacularly vivid piece which sees the character looking towards Earth from afar. Justin is a Melburnian living in New York who has worked with the likes of Nike, Coca-Cola and the Grammys.

Circus In The Sky is now available for pre-orderr. There are a half a dozen pre-order options which include a digital version (including instant Home Is Where The Heart Is single download); signed CDs accompanied by t-shirts, iPhone covers and stubby holders alongside bundled packs including the album and House Of Dreams Tour tickets.

Circus In The Sky drops June 28, through Illusive.

Diafrix – I’m A Dreamer feat. 360

30 10 2012

True daydreamers, Momo and Azmarino of Diafrix team with the one and only 360 to present I’m A Dreamer, the standout lead single from Pocket Full Of Dreams, the Melbourne duos acclaimed new album out now through Illusive.

Produced & Co-Written by 2012 ARIA Producer of the Year Styalz Fuego, I’m A Dreamer is quite simply a message of positivity over everything, an eternally optimistic anthem in both its sonics and lyrics. The piano driven beat provides a home for Diafrix’s hard knock tales, 360′s post-success narrative and one hell of a catchy group chorus.

Diafrix are dreamers in the truest sense, and joined by two of Australian music’s tightest and most successful pairings, I’m A Dreamer is a surefire chance at bringing this long acclaimed group to the forefront. Urthboy – Smokey’s Haunt (Out Now)

15 10 2012

Urthboy is at his peak, weaving tales of the city with his past and present; celebrating life with a collection of songs balanced by the tension of light and darkness. From the vibrancy of ‘Knee Length Socks’ to the emotional weight of ‘Hey Dianne’, Smokey’s Haunt gets under your skin; it should be experienced whole, with songs segued by the shadows and atmosphere they were created in. This is more than a rap record.

Hermitude and Countbounce co-produced the entire album together—the first time they’ve joined forces. The chemistry was electric; studio sessions were intense, sparked by limited time together and the buzz of worldwide attention (Hermitude had just signed a global deal for ‘Speak of the Devil’) humming in the background. It felt like the Aussie rap version of The Avengers was taking place in Countbounce’s Melbourne studio.

Guests on the record include Alex Burnett, soaring in ‘The Big Sleep’, local hip hop king Delta and some of the illest young MCs Solo (Horrorshow) and new Elefant Traks signing Jimblah. Jane Tyrrell not only appears but also handled all the artwork. The bold first single, ‘Naïve Bravado’ featuring Daniel Merriweather, was iTunes Single Of The Week— raking in over 30,000 downloads.

The playful second single ‘Knee Length Socks’ has gone further, becoming the most played song on Triple J and resonating across the board with a huge response at live shows.

Urthboy has kept a frenetic pace since his last release. Putting out 2011’s Future Shade album from The Herd; and bringing the house down with his rendition of ‘Stagger Lee’ at Straight To You, triple j’s Nick Cave Tribute concerts. He recently signed a global publishing deal with legendary Alberts Music— the first hip hop artist to join their ranks. Smokey’s Haunt is the follow-up album to Spitshine and The Signal, both finalists in the Australian Music Prize. Spitshine won the Australian Independent Award (AIR) for Best Urban Album; The Signal was nominated for a J Award.

Diafrix – Pocket Full Of Dreams (Video Series)

26 09 2012

To celebrate the release of their upcoming album Pocket Full of Dreams (Sept 28th), strikingly unique Melbourne duo Diafrix are proud to present a series of six video shorts detailing the inspirational story of the group.

Over each short instalment, the group explore their upbringing as African immigrants in Australia, their families back home, their formation as Diafrix and how these factors influenced their new album. Each episode features a new track from their upcoming sophomore album and are all directed by their long-time video collaborator Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore.

Diafrix deliver their finest work yet with Pocket Full of Dreams, an unashamedly large, world-class album, with production helmed by Styalz Fuego (360′s ‘Falling & Flying’, Aston Shuffle, Seth Sentry). Boasting the triple j favourite singles Simple Man and Running It, and new single Easy Come, Easy Go, Momo and Azmarino are also joined by special guest appearances from 360, frequent Kanye West collaborator Dwele, Daniel Merriweather and more.

This first video covers the beginnings of Diafrix, their struggles in Melbourne’s inner west and their fight to pursue their craft as refugees. You can check out the rest of the video’s here.

Follow Diafrix on Facebook or Twitter and catch them live this coming October, and at Homebake Festival in December.

Urthboy – Smokey’s Haunt

6 09 2012

Co-produced by Hermitude and Countbounce, Smokey’s Haunt is an incredibly produced album of storytelling, flow and melody. Urthboy is at his peak, weaving tales of the city with his past and present; celebrating life with a collection of songs balanced by the tension of light and darkness.

The album should be experienced whole: Smokey’s Haunt is a meeting place of moods that are complete when connected together. The album comes with a 28 page booklet and triple panel digipack. It’s the follow-up album to Spitshine and The Signal, both finalists in the Australian Music Prize. Spitshine won the Australian Independent Award for Best Urban Album; The Signal was nominated for a J Award.

The guests on the record all bring a vitality to their songs. Alex Burnett’s soaring beauty in The Big Sleep is a showstopper; Bobby Flynn’s haunting comfort in Hey Dianne is unforgettable and long-time collaborators Jane Tyrrell and Mark Pearl (Texture Like Sun) are stunning.

There are only a few rappers guesting: the legendary Delta shows why he’s a king in the local scene; while young guns Solo and Jimblah both deliver the greats.

Urthboy – Knee Length Socks

28 08 2012

Urthboy presents the second single form his upcoming LP Smokey’s Haunt, titled Knee Length Socks. The track is an ode to being out of place; of 90s britpop’s weird influence on Urthboy’s songwriting and ultimately about his love of hip hop.

The track was sent out to all ‘Urthlings‘ as an exclusive preview before it’s premiere on triple j. The bold first single, Naïve Bravado featuring Daniel Merriweather, has seen some heavy support at radio and was named iTunes Single Of The Week—raking in over 30,000 downloads in under a week, and quickly spiking to #1 most added (all indie) track at radio.

Although Hermitude and Count Bounce have been exclusive producers of all previous Urthboy material, Smokey’s Haunt is the first album where they’ve co-produced the entire album. The chemistry between all parties was electric, resulting in an invigorated sound and fresh spirit. Apart from putting the finishing touches on his new album, Urthboy has also signed a global publishing deal with the legendary Alberts Music.

The Naïve Bravado Tour kicks off this Thursday, where he will be joined by long-time collaborators Elgusto (Hermitude) and Jane Tyrrell for what promises to be an electrifying live show. The tour’s main support is The Last Kinection—one of the true voices of Indigenous local hip hop.

They will be joined on selected dates by triple j favourites Yung Warriors, Brisbane’s rising star Rainman and more.

Urthboy – Naïve Bravado feat. Daniel Merriweather

31 05 2012

Teaming up with incredible Daniel Merriweather, Urthboy sidesteps peers while exhibiting his trademark sharp flow, songwriting talents and that knack for well-crafted hooks. The concept of Naïve Bravado is like a lamb with a lion’s heart; a broken down car needing a jump start. It’s not a false courage if it leads you out of the mess.

Anchored in running bass lines, ominous horns and monstrous percussive drums—all concocted by the brilliant collaborative production of Count Bounce and Hermitude. Urthboy has kept a frenetic pace since the release of the AIR award-winning, ARIA and AMP nominated Spitshine (2009); with 2011’s Future Shade album from The Herd; and bringing the house down with his rendition of Stagger Lee at Straight To You, triple j’s Nick Cave Tribute concerts.

Naïve Bravado is out now. Taken from Urthboy’s new album, out October 2012.
