Full Tote Odds – Call It A Night

18 09 2012

The third single from Full Tote Odds upcoming album Place Your Bets (out November 16th) is Call It A Night. Following the immediate success of first single Southern Wind, and second single What’s Going Down, Call It A Night is no exception to the solid song writing and catchy hooks demonstrated in FTO’s previous releases.

One of the first tracks finished for the album, Call It A Night is produced by beat-master Debate, known to FTO from his work on various Train Of Thought albums and the Levelheaded solo LP.

We wanted to reflect on our life journey and the problems we faced growing up.  Not that we had particularly hard journeys, we just battled with the same stuff all kids do. We wanted to keep this introspective reflection as a positive thing, and the truth is that our lives have all worked out pretty good. The chorus line “leave with a grin when I call it a night” means that you need to be content with wherever you get to in life.” - Full Tote Odds

Vinyl Villains – Back In Action (Remix)

19 12 2011

Vinyl Villains consist of Train Of Thought members Hacksaw & Debate. Hacksaw has been honing his skills on the decks since the mid 90′s and Debate started producing beats around the same time. Both attended Blackwood High and shared a passion for Hip Hop which has never waned.

In Early 2000 Debate approached Hacksaw to join his group then called Exhilation the group would eventually consist of 5 members and become known as Train Of Thought. In The Mid 2000′s members of Train Of Thought decided to pursue different interests in life but Hacksaw & Debate kept doing their thing and featured on many guest spots with their cuts and/or production.

During this period Debate started the production company Train Of Thought Productions which would provide support to artists who roll under the Train Of Thought banner. With the return of LevelHeaded to the scene in 2009 Hacksaw & Debate provided Cuts & Production for the whole of LevelHeaded’s album title Spice Of Life.

At this time Hacksaw & Debate decided to form Vinyl Villains. The concept behind the Vinyl Villains is Debate will provide all the production and Hacksaw will provide all the Cuts and they will invite artists from around Australia to spit/MC over the tracks they create and occasionally Debate will grace the Mic.

The Vinyl Villains first LP was due for release in early 2011 but due to their commitments providing production and cuts for other groups the Vinyl Villains LP was put on the back burner until now! The Villains will be dropping a Mixtape in January 2012 closely followed by their Debut full Length LP. The Mixtape and LP feature’s a massive guest list of artists from all over Australia. The Villains make real hip hop music and have been making real hip hop for 15 years plus.

Artists the Villains have been involved with for either production and/or cuts include: Hilltop Hoods, Funkoars, After Hours, Pagan Elypsis, Mase N Mattic, Reason, Dialectrix, Bias B, Purpose, Prime, Iron Braydz (UK), AJ Mayhew (UK) and many more.

Reason – Window Of Time Video Clip

23 11 2011

Reason’s Window of Time is the final solo effort of his pioneering career, a true testament to his twenty plus years of dedication to Australian hip hop and reflective of his journey thus far. Window of Time, in essence, is intended to open minds and expose its listener to a mélange of historical, situational and currently pressing themes.

Reason, both a school teacher and youth workshop facilitator, takes actualities to words with the intention of inspiring positive action. The album’s conceptual roots are of a worldly emphasis in contrast to the artists previous releases that were more indicative of his local scene. From the ferocity of Rep The Legacy featuring Lazy Grey, to the dark soundtrack-esque tones of Action featuring Lotek, and the sonorous sentiment within I Want featuring SuffaWindow Of Time is an engaging exhibition of melodic texture.

Title track Window of Time epitomises Reason’s passion for history, and the importance of education in everyday life personifying the idea of ‘words from a teacher’.

Run Tingz featuring AJ (UK) and Iron Braydz (UK), is an impressive exchange between three emcees from different walks of life, the track demonstrates the unifying effect of shared passion. We Come From An Era featuring Hau (Koolism, triple J’s hip hop show), is a generational sift through the idiosyncrasies which defined the times from which the two emcees grew up.

In typical Reason style, there are guests aplenty throughout the album. Sharing mic duties are world class emcees and vocalists including Lazy Grey, Bias B, Hau, Dialectrix, Hunter, Iron Braydz (UK), Lotek (UK), AJ (UK), Joyride, KYE, Mdusu, Rachel Berry & Rapaport. The album credits superb production from Suffa, Debris, Debate, Seanie B, Mdusu, Simplex, Geko & WIZDM. The metaphorical Window of Time brings the career of this pioneer and veteran of the Australian scene full circle, as Reason takes on all before him with one last, heartfelt and monumental contribution to a scene by which he has helped to create.

‘There is music for all generations throughout the release. Conceptually, the album is for the youth, party goers, intelligentsia, the purists and the recent graduates to this very unique sound. I’ve taken my time, spent painstaking hours refining my lyrics, requesting musical changes and thus the process has in short, been a worthy experience. Like a top shelf scotch, it often takes time for maturity to be achieved.’ Reason
