Jagermeister Independent Music Awards – Hip Hop Focus

28 09 2010
Proudly presented by Channel [V], NOVA, and MySpace, the fifth Annual Jagermeister Independent Music Awards (formally known as the Jagermeister AIR Awards) will be held on Friday October 1st at The Forum Theatre in Melbourne.
The event is a rare opportunity to join great Australian Musicians and the Industry at large, as they celebrate success with the Award winners, and enjoy performances by some of the country’s most sought after artists.
The Jagermeister Independent Music Awards  are Australia’s only official independent music awards, rewarding the country’s highest achieving independent artists across all genres, in any given year.
The evening will feature performances from those purveyors of punk, hardcore rockers The Amity Affliction; new indie darlings and vintage-alt-pop stars Cloud Control; virtuosic jazz pianist Joe Chindamo; indie wunderkids and brit-rock exponents British India; the intoxicating world-renowned singer-songwriter Sally Seltmann; and a hip-hop extravaganza from M-Phazes with Illy, Muph & Candice Monique, Solo and Mantra which promises some electric on-stage collaborations.
Awards to be presented during the evening include Best Independent Dance / Electronic Release, Best Independent Artist, Best Independent Hip Hop/Urban Release and Best Independent Hard Rock/Punk Release among others, with a number of high profile special guest presenters on hand to help with proceedings.
Now in their fifth year, The Jagermeister Independent Music Awards  continue to grow and are now recognised as a barometer for future ‘big’ acts.  Previous winners include Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu, The Hilltop Hoods, The Herd, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Gotye, British India, Sneaky Sound System and John Butler, many of whom have gone on to major commercial and critical success subsequently.
Given the depth of such Label and Artist success, Independent Music can no longer be viewed as just small or emerging. Independent labels are currently estimated to have 80% of titles on shelves and online, and continue to have the biggest winning scorecard every year from the ARIA awards to triple j’s Hottest 100, while also providing the bulk of talent to the Australian festival circuit each year.
Curated and created by the Australian Independent Record Label Association (AIR), this year’s Jagermeister Independent Music Awards  will be the jewel in the crown of ‘Melbourne Music’, a 10-day music festival programme presented by The City of Melbourne. AIR is a (non-profit, non-government) national trade association promoting and representing the interests and development of Australian independent artists, labels and music companies in Australia and throughout the world.

Bliss N Eso – Running On Air (2010)

1 08 2010

Bliss N Eso’s 2008 ARIA Award-winning, Gold certified album lived up to its name and passed with Flying Colours, spending over 100 weeks on the ARIA Charts. Now the hip hop trio return with their eminent follow-up, Running On Air. After the craziness of playing multiple sold out shows at large scale venues across the nation off the back of Flying Colours, Bliss, Eso and DJ Izm withdrew from the distractions of city life in order to create more material for their fans to connect with. They secluded themselves in rural Victoria for close to six months and sought sanctuary where, in Eso’s own words, there were “no traffic jams of life comin’ atcha”.

The band embraced nature and focused solely on their chosen artform. Down By The River, the lead single from Bliss N Eso’s upcoming fourth studio release, has already hit radio. It is a tantalising peek into the surroundings that infiltrated the trio’s songwriting this time around – acoustic guitar strums and tambourine dance effortlessly alongside the punchy beats and sung chorus. While our local heroes were laying down the tracks that would become their latest LP, the live arena beckoned once more and their services were called upon abroad. A sold-out, 20-plus date US tour confirmed that Bliss N Eso’s skills are attracting a worldwide fanbase plus the respect of their Stateside peers. The proof is in the internationally acclaimed artists eager to leave their imprints on Bliss N Eso’s latest cuts. Legends such as Xzibit and The Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA make guest appearances on their forthcoming longplayer. Bliss N Eso have nothing to prove but still continue to challenge their genre and present to you this collection of songs for all moods, fittingly titled Running On Air.

Bliss N Eso – Down By The River New Video

17 06 2010

Check out the brand new video clip for Down by the River – the first single taken from the highly anticipated 4th studio album from Bliss n Eso! The clip was filmed in and around the Victorian mountains, where BnE recorded their soon to be released album Running on Air (July 30). To complement the song’s lyrical content the video also features various tour footage shot over the last 18 months in Aus & USA.
Also don’t miss DJ Izm’s classic BMX stack right at the end!

During this album’s creative process, the Sydney-based outfit headed out of the city and into the Victorian bush. Here are a few comments from Eso on the new Down By The River video clip.

“The video’s basically three blokes in the bush that have borrowed the caretaker’s Ute for the day and have made whatever they could with it, literally. You’ll see me in a poncho, screaming down through national parks and nearly falling out  — it’s quite adventurous.

“We could have done a silly flashy clip around a pool with models dancing around but that just wouldn’t have been us.

“It has Australian characteristics. Instead of it just being a partying track about a club, it had all these different elements to it.”

Bliss N Eso also announced The Down By The River Tour today which will tear through capital cities during August. So don’t miss out – Tickets go on sale Monday June 21. The Down by the River Tour will include special guests Diafrix (Melb) and Mind Over Matter (Syd). Get all the dates and ticket info here.

Bliss n Eso announce their 4th Studio Album ~ Running On Air

17 05 2010

Bliss N Eso are proud to announce the release of their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Running On Air, in late July. The trio have spent the better part of the past six months in the Victorian bush, writing and recording the follow-up to their Gold selling, ARIA Award winning LP, Flying Colours.

It’s been a big couple of years since the release of 2008’s Flying Colours, which received praise in countless media and broke all kinds of records. Highlights include winning an ARIA award; Playing in front of 82,000 punters at the historic Sound Relief concert; The release of the Flying Colours Live DVD; A Sold out tour of America with Swollen Members; and of course the sold out Flying Colours Live Tour including two unforgettable shows at Melbourne’s Festival Hall.
The first single Down by the River is a taste of what’s to come from Bliss n Eso’s forth coming album Running On Air – By name alone, it becomes evident that this stretch in the wilderness has had a profound effect on the mind state of Bliss, Eso and Izm. The track hints at the musical and lyrical evolution which can be expected from their upcoming LP. Raw guitar strums lace a thumping up-tempo drum break – perhaps a reflection of the organic, almost primitive surroundings of the album’s writing process.
According to Eso ~ “Down by the River is a reflection of alot of youth’s upbringings around the country as well as Australia’s thirst to enjoy the moment and have fun in the sun
