Phazed Out is a perfectly paced album that flows from the first track right on through to the final drum beat. The feel of the album from the onset is complete and cohesive in both style and production. The album opens with the banging single ‘The Raw feat. Saigon, Inspectah Deck & Bekay, M-Phazes use of soulful melodies, coupled with loose, banging drums shines through from the moment you press play. All Out feat. Big Noyd, Phil The Agony & Krondon, followed by Undergroud Railroad feat. Damoso, Termanology, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Phantasm, Chubb Rock & Sadat X continues in the same vein with impressive fashion. Phazes constructs the track ‘I’m The Reason feat. Bekay & DJ Dutchmaster’, originally produced by The Returners, with a simple sample that builds into a stomping anthem not to be overlooked.

M-Phazes sews menacing synths and an evil base line on the track ‘Midnight Madness feat. Heltah Skeltah & DJ Revolution’, once again highlighting Phazes dynamic and powerful production ability. Like a master tradesman, Phazes captures the essence of each and every artist, complimenting and presenting each track as an overall masterpiece. ‘Another Classic feat. Burke, Torae, Side Effect & DJ Waxwork’ plus the Phazed Out Remix of ‘Perfect Timing feat. CL SMooth & Skyzoo’ are the signature Phazes tracks, these will be as familiar to your as your favorite set of headphones.

Brooklyn Bridge feat. Bekay, Masta Ace & Dj Babu (M-Phazes Remix)’ originally featured on The Hunger Pains Remix EP from Bekay, and fits perfectly into the Phazed Out mix. M-Phazes and DJ Rehttmatic combine to present a world-class compilation album with touches of the underground, riddled with a host classic tracks. This is one for the collection.

M-Phazes 2011 Wrap Up

10 01 2012

M-Phazes, serial multi-tasker and our biggest international export, had a jam-packed ’11 touring, collaborating and producing some of the freshest sounds permeating our atmosphere. July 1st saw Phazes team up with dexterous US word-slinger Emilio Rojas to release self-titled album Phaze One.

The two forged album over two years of to-ing and flowing across the Pacific, the LP features guest vocals from Illy, Mela Machinko (Pharoahe Monch and Jean Grae), and Mateo. Phaze One supported Wu Tang Clan on their Australian tour in early August. As well as his heavy involvement in a large portion of this year’s Australian hip hop releases (Pegz, Mantra, 360 and Drapht just to name a few), M-Phazes contributed his production expertise to much of Kimbra’s ARIA Gold and ARIA Award winning album ‘Vowels’, the title track from US rapper Talib Kweli’s acclaimed release Gutter Rainbows among others on the LP, as well as track On The Scene for Shady Records crew Slaughterhouse.

After only recently finishing a huge Illy|Spit Syndicate|Sietta Tour, followed by three shows supporting the one and only Eminem on his Australian tour, M-Phazes is currently working with Illy and Bliss & Eso on their upcoming albums due in 2012. The sky’s the limit for M-Phazes…

Catch M-Phazes performing at Blah Blah Blah Festival, December 28th in Brisbane alongside Mantra and Spit Syndicate.

Phaze One – Out Now

7 07 2011

International collaborations are rare enough, but rarely does the world get a chance to admire the creative output of two such overbearing characters as M-Phazes (Australia) and Emilio Rojas (US). Together they are Phaze One, a throwback to the days of hip hop group collaborations that produced a single pioneering sound; a collaborative effort that follows in the footsteps of DangerDoom, Jaylib and the masterful relationship of the Foreign Exchange.

After two years of prophetically crafting their imminent self-titled release, in 2011 the stage was finally set for the two artists to throw back the curtain and reveal the fruits of their labour. Both have enjoyed considerable solo success; M-Phazes is a musical phenomenon in his own right, with a definitive signature style that has seen his production on albums alongside Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, M.O.P, Grammy Award Winner Amerie and a plethora of acclaimed musical pioneers.

Emilio himself is no stranger to the golden aura of success; having been described by DJ Green Lantern as one of America’s most anticipated up and coming artists, he’s released a string of successful mixtape’s that have drawn the considerable talents of Grammy winners and platinum musicians. His latest work is a testament to aspiring artists, and his diligent work ethic has seen him collaborate with Shady Records signee Yelawolf, chart climbing sensation B.o.B, as well as Styles P, Nottz, Killer Mike and a whole stable of influential musicians.

To put it bluntly, Phaze One isn’t an Emilio Rojas or M-Phazes release featuring the talents of their other half, it is a true collaborative effort where both artists are in tune to the rhythm of each other’s well timed and well placed steps. Listen to the first single So Many feat. Illy & Dion Primo below.

Phaze One – M-Phazes & Emilio Rojas

16 06 2011
2011 heralds the release of a trailblazing new collaboration between Australia’s production extraordinaire M-Phazes and dexterous US word-slinger Emilio Rojas. Combined, the pioneering duo is Phaze One.

With an indisputably fortuitous future ahead of them, Rojas and Phazes have forged their self-titled release over two years of to-ing and flowing across the Pacific. Paying homage to the likes of DangerDoom, Jaylib and the masterful relationship of the Foreign Exchange, Phaze One has found synergism fusing vintage influences with modern approach. Emilio’s toughly executed social commentary emerges through tracks like Tic Toc, The Survivalist and Still Talk, whilst a lighter approach is adapted for break-out single So Many- featuring Illy and Dion Primo, as heard on triple J, providing the album with a vast diversity of subject matter.

“Phaze One represents two like-minded individuals who won’t let distance get in the way of makingamazing music. Knowing Emilio for such a long time, it made sense to do a whole album with him. Even though we weren’t in the same room making this record – it is a true collaborative effort that shows the best of both of us.” – M-Phazes

Being the prolific producer he is; M-Phazes manages to explore an array of genres throughout the album. But teamed with Emilio’s New York flow –the overall sound is that of soulful hip hop at its finest.
A testament to the times, Phaze One was completed prior to the two artists ever physically meeting to work together in person. The uniqueness of this album largely stems from the international nature of the collaboration, though the working relationship had its challenges; the end product has proven to be something revolutionary because of them. Now, the stage is finally set for the two artists to throw back the curtain and reveal the fruits of their labour.
The album features guest vocals from Illy, Mela Machinko (Pharoahe Monch and Jean Grae), and Mateo.

M-Phazes – Good Gracious! New Album (Feb 26)

14 01 2010

M-Phazes is the perfect example of a diamond in the rough.  Born and raised in the Gold Coast of Australia and relatively isolated from Hip-Hop culture, M-Phazes has carved a strong niche for himself that has allowed his production to be heard on a global scale.

Drawing inspiration from legendary producers such as Battlecat, Pete Rock and the late J-Dilla, M-Phazes has has formulated his own sound over the years that can be defined by soulful melodies coupled with loose, smacking drums.

Landing his first U.S. placement in 2005 on Supastition’s “Chain Letters”, M-Phazes has been on a steady climb and hasn’t looked back.  In March of 2008, M-Phazes earned himself a first place victory at Sha Money’s prestigious One Stop Shop Producers Conference Beat Battle, an event that’s held annually in Phoenix, Arizona.  M-Phazes‘ production was judged by a panel of legendary producers and artists that consisted of DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, Swizz Beats, DJ Toomp, No I.D, Hi-Tek, Don Cannon, Chamillionaire and of course, Sha Money.  M-Phazes blew me away with his sound” – Jake One.

The last round of the battle was held on Sunday, March 9th, a date which marked the 11th anniversary of the passing of the late Notorious B.I.G. In remembrance of this date, M-Phazes prepared a track titled ‘Brooklyn‘ that was played in honor of the late Biggie. From the first kick to the last snare, this tribute beat caused the entire judging panel and audience to literally leap out of their seats!  This track received a standing ovation that secured M-Phazes victory.  Shortly after, this tribute beat went on to become the backdrop for Joell Ortiz’s forthcoming single off his new album which has since been licensed for the major motion picture Brooklyn’s Finest featuring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke & Wesley Snipes (directed by Antwon Fuqua, Training Day).

Since the One Stop, M-Phazes has received an Aria Award for his production on Bliss N Eso’s “Flying Colors album, has had his production featured on two college chart topping singles, has signed a landmark deal with Mushroom Publishing and has landed several placements, including a major label placement with Amerie (Feenix Rising Entertainment/Island Def Jam Music Group) as well as a co-production credit alongside super producer JR Rotem (Belugah Heights) for his artist Mann.

To date, M-Phazes has built a very strong discography that includes placements with several key players in today’s hip-hop marketplace that include Pharoahe Monch, CL Smooth, M.O.P., Mela Machinko, Royce Da 5’9″, Emilio Rojas, Heltah Skeltah, Donny Goines, Cory Gunz, Elzhi (Slum Village), Freeway, Marvin Priest (son of Maxi Priest), Termanology, Sean Price, Sadat X and more.

M-Phazes is living proof that no matter where you’re from, you can make an impact on the rest of the world.  As his dreams become a reality, M-Phazes places no boundaries on his craft that he hopes will allow him the opportunity to work with artists that define a wide brush stroke of today’s urban music climate.

M-Phazes will be once again bringing the bangers when he drops his new album titled ‘Good Gracious’ in February this year.

M-Phazes has worked with a whole heap of hip hop artists on this one, including: Drapht, Bliss N Eso, Phrase, Illy, Pegz, Muph n Plutonic, Delta, Solo, Spit Syndicate, Dialectrix, Mantra, Nfa, Nine High, Forthwrite (360 n Pez), 13th Son and Haunts.

This will surely be on of the top albums of 2010, we know it’s early but we have faith! You can check out a sneak preview in the video below.
