Def Wish Cast – ‘Day Tripper’ Music Video

10 12 2012

Day Tripper is a stop motion music video created by budding filmmaker and human beatboxer, Luke Cavalan (aka LC Beats), for the latest single off Def Wish Cast’s recent album Evolution Machine. The hard hitting track features production from esteemed Australian beat maker, Dizz1, and vocals from the UK’s Spikey Tee.

Def Wish Cast Day Tripper

The video features claymation caricatures of pioneering Sydney Hip Hop group, Def Wish Cast, running wildly through the city streets, promoting their upcoming performance, eventually finishing things off by delivering a high energy live show. Expect to see an incredibly entertaining, fast paced treat for the eyes and ears! The Day Tripper music video, which recently walked away with the “Animal Logic Encouragement Award” at the annual COFA / UNSW film screening, is the third stop motion animation video created by Luke Cavalan.

His first two features, Mayhem in May Lane and Kaos in King Street, were well received by the industry, but it is this latest project which pushes the boundaries of his talents even further. After nearly 3 years in the making, having filmed 1 hour of footage for each second of film, the time has finally come to showcase this work of art.

Def Wish Cast – Forever

20 04 2012

Forever is the 2nd release from their forthcoming album, Evolution Machine, which features production from Sydney’s king of beats, The Manipulating Agent from Invada Records, Katalyst.

The track pays homage to the incredible 20 year career that Def Wish Cast has endured. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but through hard work and sheer determination, Def Wish Cast has proven, time and time again, that they are here to stay. They will be here forever, because it is their passion for Hip Hop culture that drives them…

The video is a preview of the upcoming Def Wish Cast documentary, and gives a little sample of some of their incredible 20+ year history. Many old school legends are featured, but plenty of important people are missing. We haven’t forgotten about you guys (you know who you are). The full history, and those people we missed, will be featured on the documentary due out later this year.

Def Wish Cast – Dun Proppa

25 08 2011

Since the initial days when hip hop culture first arrived in Australia, there are many who’ve become obsessed with the traditional four elements; B-boying/B-Girling, Emceeing, Deejaying and Graffiti. They symbolise hip hop at its most pure and are the living embodiment of all four elements in their rawest form as each member was born from the 80′s explosion. Def Wish Cast embraces all the aspects and ideology but never imitates.

They created something localised that was revered and is now mythologised: they are Def Wish Cast; they are Australian; they are Hip Hop. In 1990 Def Wish Cast began taking there skills to the stage. Every show was an experience. Already at this early period in their career they were perfecting stage techniques and crowd interactions that hadn’t been witnessed previously by local crowds. Def Wish Cast championed the importance of representing oneself by having a very identifiable style and sounding distinctly Australian.
It’s been a few years in the making but we finally have a sneak preview of what Def Wish Cast has been working on over the hiatus. Dun Proppa is the lead track from their forthcoming album, Evolution Machine, which features production from Queensland’s Resin Dogs who team up with the UK’s own Brad Baloo (Nextmen). As if that wasn’t enough talent on the beats, the track is also overseen by the mighty Plutonic Lab (Muph n Plutonic), who lends some of his hit making abilities to the mix.
