Australian Exclusive: ‘Fame’ Brand New D12 Track Feat. Eminem

6 02 2012

D12 were formed in 1996, and achieved mainstream success after one of its members, Eminem, rose to international fame. D12 have just this week finished touring Australia and have announced that in celebration of said tour, they are offering up a brand new track Fame.

Their first Australian release for quite some time, Fame not only features Eminem, but was also mixed and mastered by Eminem himself in Detroit. The track is lifted from last year’s mixtape Return Of The Dozen II, which was an extremely limited public release with hardcopies available only through the D12 website. Free downloads were available for 2 weeks only before they were cut off.

Though lifted from the mixtape, Fame is one of a bunch of tracks the band is currently working  on in lieu of a new album to come at some stage in the foreseeable future. To celebrate the songs  release in Australia, D12 performed it at all shows on the recent tour.  As a standalone track, Fame bears a real significance to the band. Eminem spits about fellow founding D12 bandmate Proof who was shot outside a Detroit nightclub in April 2006 and Swifty &  Kuniva also have their own distinct takes on that here.

Fame has never before been released as a stand-alone single, this is an Australian and world exclusive. To download the track for free heard here. (D12 Australia)

Undertow – Minds Believing (Review)

18 07 2010

Minds Believing is the title to emcee Undertow’s (SYD) debut hip hop LP. Featuring 15 tracks, with the bulk of the production handled by Dazed. Guest spots include Flawlezz, Fame, Swarmy, Rinse from Bingethinkers, Ayeone, Nehi, Double G, Logical (UK) and SPEx.  On first impressions Mind’s Believing has all the makings of a quality package. Cover design is by April77, with the album mixing handled by Fame and mastering by Joseph Carra. With Undertow’s diverse emcee background in dnb, grime and electronica, we were quite interested to hear what style Undertow would bring to the fore front of this album……..It was quite clear from early on that this was a hip hop album.

The track Open Doors, our first higlight, bouncers around building on a subtle violin string backdrop. Undertow raps about the opportunities present in life on this track, dealing with this issue from a positive stance. The appropriately titled track Swagger featuring Dazed and Flawlezz on the mic, really hits a great note. Swagger has a smooth mellow sound that will ‘Make ya nod your head like a bunch of yes men, live life with few regrets, looking round the next bend’.
Some Call It Life,
one of the few tracks not produced by Dazed, features Flawlezz on the boards. Undertow steps things up a notch here and has him flexing his mic experience from the get go. The beat on Some Call It Life is planted around some great horns, that sound like they have been taken straight from a 1920′s Steamboat Willie cartoon.

Australian youth culture, love, mental illness and friends who have passed away are some of the other heavy issues that Undertow deals with on Mind’s Believing, an album that offers real in site to the mind of a dynamic artist.  Between The Cracks featuring Bingethinkers emcee Rinse, plays along nicely with some great verses from both Undertow and Rinse (check out Between The Cracks below). Dazed delivers some sinister sounding shit on the track Level Of Proof which features Flawlezz again on the mic. Work It Out, the albums posse track featuring Ayeone, Swarmy, Nehi, Double G and Logical, Dazed and Flawlezz, Rinse and Fame. Work It Out is an epic track with all involved coming together in a great way.

Final conclusions, Undertow drops an album with strength and great replay value. The grime, dnb and electronic music lovers will find something here and the hip hop heads won’t be turned off  either. Undertow - Minds Believing is an album that crosses the whole gamut of human emotion, with a heavy lean-to the  positive side of things. Dazed puts in some solid work on the production front and the guest appearances add a nice touch to a highly enjoyable album.
We rate Undertow’s – Mind Believing 3.2 out of 5

biasb

If your in Adelaide this weekend July 10, make sure you get to HQ as 3 of Australia’s finest hit the main stage,  just in-case you didn’t know……

BIAS B
When it comes to quality Australian Hip Hop, the most influential name that comes to mind is Bias B. With a career spanning over a decade, he has been at the forefront of the development of the local hip hop scene since the early 90’s.

Bias B’s debut release Beezwax not only changed the standard of the local scene but has become a classic and a defining stepping stone in the history of this genre. Bias B then went on to release In Bed With Bias in 2003 and then hit the scene with his 3rd solo in February 2007 entitled Been There Done That featuring the talents of Bigfoot, Dazastah, Bonez and Burna just to name a few. Aerosol Era is the title of his latest release, you can read more about that here.

SPIT SYNDICATE
Sydney MCs Nick Lupi and Just Enuf have perfected a unique approach that presents an exciting new sound for Obese Records and guarantees a fresh perspective for the Australian music scene. Their latest album Towards The Light is an innovative and adventurous work that maintains its underground intensity while blurring genre lines between indie, rock, electro and pop, showcasing the skills of these two prodigious rappers.

Production credits on Towards The Light feature foundational members of the Australian Hip Hop movement, including Suffa, M-Phazes, Jase and Fame, along with a number of new faces, highlighting the constant evolution of this increasingly influential movement in Australian music. Spit Syndicate’s dynamic live show testifies to this crew’s monster reputation and demonstrates their ability to party at a level well beyond their years.

DIALECTRIX
From the Blue Mountains of NSW, 22 year-old Dialectrix, is one of the latest to join the Obese Records family and is lighting a fire under the Australian hip hop industry. Establishing himself as an essential member of the Sydney scene, Dialectrix broke out in 2004 as part of Triple J Unearthed winners Down Under Beats Crew, realising the skills ever present since his beginnings as an MC at the age of 14. Featuring heavily on their albums Hiphoperation and Under Raps along with label mate Chasm’s Beyond the Beat Tape, Dialectrix’s lyricism and urgency is met head on with a unique energy aimed at both cementing his ability while at the same time, challenging listeners to the vast possibilities of his potential.

Dialectrix recently released his first solo album Cycles of Survival. It was released on Obese Records and features Pegz, Drapht, Mc Kye, Momo (Diafrix), Mdusu, Joe New, Scot Burns, Rinse (Binge Thinkers), Thundamentals with cuts by 2buck (Binge Thinkers), Murda1 (Def Wish Cast) and Elgusto (Hermitude).

Since dropping late in 2008, Dialectrix’ album Cycles of Survival has received rave reviews. The first single Outcast has received extensive radio and video play accross the country, including high rotation on Triple J. 2009 is set to be a large year for the young MC.
