The result?

A beautifully sculpted dynamic soundscape that complements Deece’s ever evolving sound. Sinks – Prolifix (Nov 28th)

12 11 2012

One fifth of the Down For The Count collective, Sinks has been named by some of the most respected local hip hop artists and heads as an upcoming rapper to look out for (DJ Sherriff Rosco) and a beast on the mic (Fatty Phew). So after much anticipation, Sinks finally releases his debut 5 track EP, Prolifix

As a young rapper and producer hailing from Melbourne’s inner south, Sinks’ passion for the craft of hip hop is second to none. As a newer MC in the scene he has been able to form a niche sound for himself, bypassing the sound of the majority of modern monotonous raps which get regular mainstream radio rotation.

Unapologetically blending boom bap production with the odd classic dub to form a sound not often heard in the local scene, Sinks’ work as a beat maker combined with his energetic and thought provoking rhymes ensures Prolifix is a release that both new and old heads can both respect and enjoy.

Almost entirely self produced but also featuring production from Biko of Fat Mommas Project and guest verses from Sparts, MolOne, Force and Dazed, Prolifix will be available on a limited physical CD release, as well as digital format from http://www.dftc.com.au November 28, 2012.

Maundz – Take It Back feat. Bias B

21 05 2012

Maundz, the outspoken rascal of Melbourne’s rap-scene; has a heart of gold, a potty mouth, and an acid tongue. His second LP Zero, is the first release of 2012 from irrefutable hip hop collective Crate Cartel. Zero is a fast approaching sun on the horizon after what has been a long winter for Maundz fans.

Featuring collaborative efforts from New York’s number one man of the moment Action Bronson, ARIA award winning Drapht, Golden Era’s Vents and Sesta, Melbourne kings Brad Strut and Bias B, and of course Crate Cartel. Revered by the likes of Hilltop Hoods and Drapht as the “next big thing”, Maundz has become highly respected by his underground and commercially established cohorts alike.

The lead single Take It Back featuring the legendary Bias B is full of nostalgic imagery and vintage beats and cuts, the track revisits cultural icons of the 80’s and 90’s. Its accompanying cameo-rich music video gained an extensive amount of exposure within weeks of its release.

Take It Back is characterized by its early 90’s inspired production –courtesy of Wik, catchy call and response chorus (prevalent of the era), and of course the nostalgic references. Throughout the tongue-in-cheek homage collage Maundz and Bias B divulge their own era-reflective stories. Take It Back proves that no matter when you grew up, the cultural impressions of your youth shape you.

Bias B, Wik and I wanted to make a track that would take people on a little time-machine trip back to the good old days. We get on a bridging the gap type of feel with this one.” – Maundz

Maundz – Zero is available through Crate Cartel on 25th May 2012.

Continuing on from 2011′s successful DFTC Records releases, Sparts delivers the first offering from the crew for 2012 in the form of the free Jackabeat mixtape.

The release contains a varied collection of consistently dope, new and old beats which provide Sparts with a canvas to lace his acerbic verses over. Jaded by the world and what rap has become, Sparts shows there’s still room for meaningful, hard hitting rhymes, as long there’s fire in the belly.

DFTC Records 2011 Wrap Up

16 01 2012

This year saw the first full year for the new Melbourne based outfit Down For The Count Records consisting of Force, Sparts, Mol One, Sinks and Dazed. Forming late in 2010 with the goal of releasing product in 2011, they certainly lived up to this plan with multiple drops throughout the year.

2011 saw the release of a 7″ Vinyl Rest in Syn from Dazed featuring Sydney emcees Rinse and Grand Arkiteks crew. This release was received well by fans and there are only a couple of copies of the limited edition wax left. DFTC also released Down For The Count, a full length label album featuring a range of crew and solo tracks over production from Dazed, B Wiv, Shroomz, Chris Labs, Flash Forrest, Alabamma, Bipola, Rotten Produce and Double Digits. This 16 track limited edition hard copy album has sold out and positioned DFTC as a label to be on the look out for in the future.

The physical copies of this album quickly sold out but digital is still available. Shortly after we saw a free release from Syn Synik aka Sinks with his Sinxtape: Volume 1. 14 tracks over jacked classic production highlighting Sinks skills as an emcee, this free download has hit over 1000 downloads and again highlighted a growing support base for the Down For The Count Records camp.

Dazed has had a very productive year with the release of Rest In Syn 7″ Vinyl which has almost sold out. Also featured heavily in both production and on the mic for the Down For The Count album. Dazed is currently working on his debut solo release and also beats for multiple artists such as Rezadent, Grand Arkitekts and of course the DFTC heads. He has just bought some new studio gear so expect a bigger sound in 2012 from Dazed.

Sparts smashed every one of his verses on the Down For The Count album as is continuing to grow as an insane lyricist and emcee. He has almost finished recording all his verses for his debut solo EP, which will be a free release around February. Just waiting on a couple of guest verses. This release will definately impress and raise a few eyebrows. He is already planning his next release which will be fully produced by Dazed.

Mol One is currently working on his full length debut with producer Flash Forrest, who did Mol’s solo track Taken For Granted on the Down For The Count album. This duo has amazing chemistry and Mols laid back flow and honesty will bring a refreshing and different approach to his release.

Syn Synik is currently deep into his next EP. A self-produced release that will be done by May will give Sinks another chance to display not only his lyrical prowess but also his production side. With help from Biko of Fat Mommas Project this release will once again show people the beast that is Sinks.

After featuring heavily on the Down For The Count album plus multiple guest spots throughout the year Force is knuckling down on his solo album for 2012. Featuring production from Dazed, Doc Savage, B Wiv, Wik, Alter Ego, Def Men Walking, Royalz & Xcise and guest spots from DFTC, Maundz, Fatty Phew, Fluent Form & some more surprises it is shaping up to be massive.
