Hons – Hons Solo

8 02 2013

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
4 friends created one of the most irresponsible groups in Australian music, 10 years later they are still around and continue to be a burden to their fans and loved ones.

Now, on the eve of his best friends (and fellow crew member – Mr Trials) wedding, Hons, has been given the task of planning the Bucks party to end all Bucks party’s. Hons assembled a 6 track solo EP in order to raise sufficient funds to send Trials off with a universal size Big Bang. The aptly titled Hons Solo is produced and recorded with help from the rest of the Funkoars, production from Hilltop Hoods’ Suffa, Adelaide crew Third Degree and Melbourne mates Maundz and WIK of Crate Cartel.

The digital only EP is available for a short time only download for $7.99 or FREE with the purchase of a ‘Hons Solo‘ t-shirt. 100% of the proceeds from the EP will go towards Trials bucks night, so lets send him off proper, and probably get him arrested.

Seth Sentry – Dear Science

7 02 2013

Just to put it in perspective, 2012 was a massive year for Seth Sentry… three high-rotation singles, an album debuting at #6 on the ARIA charts, triple j’s feature album of the week and Channel [V]’s Oz Artist Of The Year award… but seeing as though he got to kick off 2013 by driving a DeLorean, this is already the year to beat.

seth sentry dear science

Featuring said time machine, a host of characters and some highly dubious acting performances from Seth, Mantra, DJ B-Two, and Grey Ghost, the clip to Seth’s latest single Dear Science has everything. Well, everything except hoverboards, as the fan-favourite song points out. Directed by Grey Ghost and Nick Rieve, Dear Science takes an adult revisitation of a childhood moment and asks the important scientific question, ‘Where’s my Hoverboard?’

After an exclusive premiere on Channel V, the official Dear Science video clip was been unleashed. And while scientists of the world get right on that (technically they have until 2015 to make Seth a hoverboard), Seth Sentry is gearing up for another big year, starting off with the 2013 Melbourne Big Day Out. Following on from last year’s heavy touring schedule and performances at festivals like Homebake, Fat As Butter, Sprung and the first Channel [V] Island Party, this year will be even busier than the last, starting things off with the monster summer anthem that is Dear Science.

Taken from Seth’s debut album This Was Tomorrow (released through his own label, High Score Records, and celebrated by Time Off Magazine as “a landmark Australian hip hop record”) Dear Science follows in the tradition of Seth’s previous singles Float Away, My Scene and The Waitress Song with light-hearted wordplay and big sing-along chorus.

Produced by Trials (Funkoars, Drapht), Dear Science is exactly the kind of song that helped make 2012 so successful for Seth, and is the perfect way to get this summer cranking. Dear Science is the third single taken from This Was Tomorrow, out now through High Score Records.

“This is something I put together for you peeps for checking out my music/sharing it/coming to shows – you are appreciated. I wanted to get in early and give you a song that will make you want to get drunk waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the party starts haha.

No really. If you have the day off, get amongst it. Huge shout outs to the dudes who’s beats I used on the track – nothin’ but love. I wanted to do something with just Australian Hip-Hop beats this time around just because I think there’s so much quality shit being made that it made sense. Some old, some new – all crazy. It puts a different spin/vibe on the mash-up too. I dig it, hope you do too”. – Purpose

Put The Work In – Mr. Hill and Rahjconkas

15 10 2012

Amidst the continued stair-climb by Brisbane collective Born Fresh to set a foundation for quality local hiphop in the city; Mr Hill and Rahjconkas release Put The Work In, the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album Dead End Street.

2012 has been a busy year for the duo, following the successful reception of their debut LP The Feedback, with tours, guest appearances and collaborations presenting themselves consistently. Since January, the two have toured with label-mate Seven, 360, Seth Sentry, Illy and the Funkoars as well as supporting US successes Atmosphere and Evidence and locals Thundamentals, Urthboy and Spit Syndicate. There was even time for interstate headline and Victorian Flood Benefit shows, as well as Mr Hill grossing over 100 000 youtube views with a remix side-project with Seven.

Even with a plate so obviously full, the geographically disadvantaged boys put forth their new single Put The Work In just 9 months after the release of their debut LP. Put The Work In honour’s the ethic of the two and their peers, hinting at picking up the shovel and digging, rather than waiting for the world to come for them. With a very successful 2012 almost in the bag, quickly leap frogging others in the genre, Mr Hill and Rahjconkas are preparing to go even bigger in 2013.

Purpose – Come Together Festival and triple j Hip Hop Show Performances

19 06 2012

The 2nd single from Purpose’s upcoming album Where It Starts is dropping tomorrow July 20. The track titled Alive, will be released alongside the official film clip shot & edited by EightLimb Films. To celebrate the launch of the new single Alive, Purpose has been releasing a video a day until the single finally drops tomorrow.

Late last we were treated to a sneak peek of the new film clip and single. Yesterday Purpose also released a nice little clip from when he visited the triple j studio’s in Sydney last week. There is a bit of the interview and of course it wouldn’t be a Purpose appearance without some live bars.

The track that he performed live on the triple j Hip-Hop show was set to be over a different beat, but the disk didn’t work on the night. He recorded it yesterday over the music it was prepared for, so people could hear it the way it was intended.

Today’s video features footage from Purpose’s most recent performance/backstage at the sold out Come Together Festival 2012 held in Sydney. Shot & edited by Rush, the video features some great local talent. Where Is Starts coming soon.
