Horrorshow – Walk You Home Tour + Free Download

24 08 2010

Elefant Traks is pleased to announce Horrorshow’s Walk You Home Tour with 8 shows nationwide this August/September.
The horse that is Horrorshow’s live reputation has bolted! Their Inside Story tour earlier this year was a smashing success playing to over 4000 people including 2 sellout Sydney shows (the first selling out 3 weeks in advance) at the Factory.

The buzz around Horrorshow keeps growing: their evocative, ego-free hip-hop continues to strike a chord with a diverse and growing legion of devoted fans. They were recently featured in J-MAG for the tattoos fans have made out of their lyrics. After appearances supporting Hilltop Hoods in England and Germany, as well as a spot on the sold out Splendour In The Grass, Horrorshow will be perfectly prepared for a thrilling tour to complete an amazing run since their Inside Story album came out in 2009.

In support is Melbourne’s rising star Seth Sentry, whose Waitress Song was one of 2009′s best loved tunes, coming in at #31 on triple j’s Hottest 100. Fresh from an Unearthed J Award nomination, Seth’s debut album is now very much anticipated.

Horrorshow Inside Story Tour – Melbourne Show Review

21 03 2010

Joey Smiles hits the Horrorshow - Inside Story Tour in Melbourne here’s what he had to say:

Horrorshow and Spit Syndicate took to the stage in Melbourne on Friday night for some unforgettable live hip hop. The sold out show nearly tore the roof off The Evelyn Hotel and was testament to the growing fanbase these groups have been receiving across the country. Doors opened about 9:30pm and Melbourne local Tys opened up with some tight, original raps over some well-known instrumental tracks including Roots Manuva’s Witness The Fitness and DJ Shadow’s chilled masterpiece Midnight In A Perfect World.

Spit Syndicate’s Nick Lupi and Just Enuff were up next. Joined by DJ Joyride, the boys wasted no time getting the crowd into it by playing tracks off their debut album Towards The Light. The venue was definitely not the biggest but the packed in punters were all hyped and hands were in the air from the very beginning. Looking around the room, I was surprised to see so many Melbourne artists in the crowd. Seth Sentry, Muph, Pez, M-Phazes, Geko, Diafrix and Illy all showed up to support the groups and they were not disappointed.
Next up in the set the guys played some new songs from their upcoming sophomore Exile . They played Crooks and Crimescenes first up which had a catchy chorus followed by an ode to graffiti, Kings Way. After a few more tracks and a fresh freestyle, they closed the set with the song Lost Boys and the crowd bounced like they were on pogo sticks.

Horrorshow’s DJ Adit and emcee Solo came on just before midnight and opened with some of their harder tracks like Inside Story and Uplift before playing the more catchy songs like Thoughtcrime, The Show, She and Solo’s heartfelt Walk You Home which went down very well with the ladies – and there were certainly a lot of them there!

Melbournians were treated to a special performance when Horrorshow played a new song from M-Phazes album For What It’s Worth. Other highlights included Waiting for The 5.04, No Rides Left and Truth Be Told. Not long after this, Solo welcomed Spit Syndicate back onstage to do some songs together including a new banger from Exile and the tracks Neighbourhood Hit and Choose None. Melbourne emcee Illy also joined the two groups onstage for the first ever live performance of Red Light, Green Light with all four emcees present.
Horrorshow closed the night with the solid track The Rain around 1:15ish after a long and energetic set. Both groups thanked the crowd and seemed genuinely humbled for the energy Melbourne showed.

Horrorshow Ticket Winner!

23 02 2010

The buzz around Horrorshow is staggering: they’ve swept up everyone from Triple J kids to purist heads and indie hipsters. Their new album Inside Story was JJJ Album of the Week & Hip Hop Album of the Year (SMH) and their joint launch with Urthboy sold out the Metro Theatre in Sydney.

The evocative brand of earnest, ego-free hip-hop announced by their debut album The Grey Space, earned them an ARIA nomination for Best Urban Release. Coupled with acclaimed recordings is their growing reputation for explosive live shows, most recently winning over a swag of new fans during 25 shows (over 7000 payers) on the Spitshine Tour.

If you’re talking hip hop, Horrorshow are a group to watch.

It’s now time to announce the winner of the double pass to catch Horrorshow perform on their nation wide, Inside Story Tour featuring  Spit Syndicate (selected dates).

We had a huge response to this comp and it was quite interesting to see what songs were rated amongst fans.

The winner of the double pass, to take along a friend to see Horrorshow is M.Densely of Springwood QLD. Michael and a  mate will be attending the Brisbane leg of the tour (hope to see some photos). Here are the three tracks that Michael picked as his favourite and a little paragraph on why these songs.

M. Densely’s top 3 tracks off Inside Story:

Neighborhood Hit – Dope bassline, laid back steezed out flow with a nod to hip hop roots of graff in the suburbs. Makes me wish i could go back to Melbourne in the 80′s when the most important thing was getting together on a Saturday at Richmond station and swapping paint, markers, laces and new styles with other writers.

The Rain – Eerie hook and deep lyrics combine to paint a picture of hope and lost dreams. Skillful track.

Thoughtcrime – The most accessible track for most of my mainstream friends. This has been responsible for me introducing heaps of people to the new sound of aussie hip hop. Rhymes full of punchy alliteration and crystal clean beats and samples tied together with a hook that everyone is humming along to by the second chorus. “see there’s music that makes you dance, and music that makes you feel. No longer am I sure which one is more real” beautifully describes the battle we all go through at stages trying to balance our love for traditional hip hop with the new styles and flavours we get hit with every day.

Please note that Horrorshow’s Sydney show at The Factory (Feb 26) sold-out last week.

As a result a 2nd second show has been confirmed for April 10, again at The Factory Theater (All-ages).

Thanks to all the people that entered, winner was drawn randomly. Shout out to the Elefant Traks fam.

16 12 2009

It”s time to bring the second edition of our monthly cook up. This time around we’re featuring Adit from the dynamic duo, Horrorshow.

After a massive six months for the guys with the release of their second full length album, Inside Story plus an ARIA nomination for their debut record, The Grey Space and a support on Urthboy’s Spitshine tour, there has been no rest for the lads and it’s only about to get more hectic. To coincide with the monthly cook up, allaussie hip hop are happy to announce that Horrorshow will embark on their very first headline Tour in Feb-March 2010.

Horrorshow have seen a rapid but organic rise over the past 12 months, their second album featuring as Triple J Album of the Week and FBi sunsets Album of the Week. Their swelling fanbase is about as eclectic as they come, hip hop heads, indie kids and hipsters have all embraced their evocative brand of earnest, ego-free hip hop.
Don’t miss this chance to catch their growing reputation for explosive live shows. Please note W.A dates will be confirmed shortly. Tickets on sale Dec 18th.
For your chance to win a double pass to the Inside Story Tour (closet show to the winner) check out Adit’s dope dumpling recipe below. It’s sure to spice up your weekend.

Momo Recipe (Nepali Dumplings)
Filling:
1kg Pork Mince
4 Tomatoes
2 White Onions
5 cloves of garlic
2.5 inches of ginger
2 Spring Onions
2 Coriander bunches
½ teaspoon Turmeric
2 teaspoons Cumin Powder
3 teaspoons coriander Power
2 teaspoons Chili Powder
1 pinch of Ajinomoto
3 tablespoons of oil
3 tablespoons of salt
1 teaspoon of black pepper

Pastry:
1 kg flour
water

Golbera ko achar (tomato chutney):
8 Tomatoes
3 cloves of garlic
2 tablespoons of salt
½ coriander bunch
Spring Onions stems

2 tablespoons Chili Powder (or according to taste – you can also put in as many chillies as you desire again depending on taste)
You need a steamer, a few big bowls, a blender!

Momo
1. Start by dicing the white onions and tomatoes as finely as possible.
2. Cut off the stems of the spring onions and coriander, leaving only the leaves.
3. Dice the leaves of the spring onions and coriander as finely as possible. Keep the stems for the tomato chutney.
4. Grate the garlic and ginger as finely as possible.
5. Place the mince in a bowl.
6. Add all the finely diced ingredients and the rest of the ingredients/spices.
7. Use your clean hands to mix it all. Make sure all of the mince is mixed in with the rest of the ingredients, leaving no trace of raw meat.
8. Pour 1 kg of flour into a large bowl.
9. Add small amounts of water as necessary mixing with your hands to create dough. Be careful not add too much water too soon. The dough should be thick and tough.
10. Wrap the dough tightly in cling wrap to let it set.
11. Carefully take out small amounts of dough at a time.
12. Roll each small amount of dough thinly, and use a medium-sized cup about 2 inches in diameter to cut out circular shapes. This will be our momo pastry.
13. Use a finger to dip in a bowl of water and gently apply to one side of the momo pastry.
14. Use a teaspoon to take out small chunks of our momo filling and place in the momo pastry circles – on the moistened side.
15. Take one end of the pastry and join it with the opposite end (forming a semi-circle of sorts).
16. Slowly fold in small increments from one end of the pastry to the other. It can help to moisten the edges and gently clasp together the edges once they have been folded.
17. Continue until you run out of filling or pastry, whichever comes first.
18. Start boiling water for the steamer. Wait until water is boiling
19. Place momo in the steamer, and allow to cook for roughly 15 minutes. Make sure you check though! The momo is cooked when the outside is shiny and moist. To double-check just slice it open and see if the filling is cooked.
20. Enjoy!

Golbera Ko Achar
1. Place tomatoes in a grill and heat for approximately 20 minutes at 150C or until skin is slightly burnt.
2. Place grilled tomatoes into a bowl.
3. Grate in all garlic.
4. Add the stems from the spring onions and coriander.
5. Finely dice the coriander leaves and add.
6. Add salt and chili powder
7. Use blending device and blend until consistency is smooth.
8. Serve with momo.

All you have to do to enter the comp is, tell us your top 3 songs off the album Inside Story, put your name, address and which show you’d like to attend in an email and send it to allaussiecomps@gmail.com. The entries that match allaussie hip hops top 3, will then go into the final draw for the tickets, the winner from there will  be chosen at random.
