He owns Elysium Lounge & plays there along with the very best dj’s & musicians Adelaide has to offer. He has played extensively all over Australia. What sets him apart from most DJ’s is a combination of traditional turntable finesse, original and current routines, incredible energy & selfless respect for the party by not only letting them request songs but actually playing them.

Which is where he first met the other 2 members of what later became the legendary underground crew Mnemonic Ascent (alongside Dj Ransom & Raph Boogie).Together they started by today’s standards a hugely successful indie Record label Crookneck.

Mnemonic Ascent have toured extensively across the continent, performing alongside such artists as J5, Company flow, Rodney P and Skits, Hilltop Hoods, Resin Dogs and Downsyde to name a very few. As B.V.A. he is a highly regarded Aussie rapper – considered a veteran of the scene by his 20’s.

B.V.A. now presents Answers Loss Question Love, an album with universal themes, passion, punch and poetry, beats which swoop from fast and furious to lyrical and lovely. B.V.A – Portrait Of A Monster

15 10 2012

Urthboy – Smokey’s Haunt (Out Now)

15 10 2012

Urthboy is at his peak, weaving tales of the city with his past and present; celebrating life with a collection of songs balanced by the tension of light and darkness. From the vibrancy of ‘Knee Length Socks’ to the emotional weight of ‘Hey Dianne’, Smokey’s Haunt gets under your skin; it should be experienced whole, with songs segued by the shadows and atmosphere they were created in. This is more than a rap record.

Hermitude and Countbounce co-produced the entire album together—the first time they’ve joined forces. The chemistry was electric; studio sessions were intense, sparked by limited time together and the buzz of worldwide attention (Hermitude had just signed a global deal for ‘Speak of the Devil’) humming in the background. It felt like the Aussie rap version of The Avengers was taking place in Countbounce’s Melbourne studio.

Guests on the record include Alex Burnett, soaring in ‘The Big Sleep’, local hip hop king Delta and some of the illest young MCs Solo (Horrorshow) and new Elefant Traks signing Jimblah. Jane Tyrrell not only appears but also handled all the artwork. The bold first single, ‘Naïve Bravado’ featuring Daniel Merriweather, was iTunes Single Of The Week— raking in over 30,000 downloads.

The playful second single ‘Knee Length Socks’ has gone further, becoming the most played song on Triple J and resonating across the board with a huge response at live shows.

Urthboy has kept a frenetic pace since his last release. Putting out 2011’s Future Shade album from The Herd; and bringing the house down with his rendition of ‘Stagger Lee’ at Straight To You, triple j’s Nick Cave Tribute concerts. He recently signed a global publishing deal with legendary Alberts Music— the first hip hop artist to join their ranks. Smokey’s Haunt is the follow-up album to Spitshine and The Signal, both finalists in the Australian Music Prize. Spitshine won the Australian Independent Award (AIR) for Best Urban Album; The Signal was nominated for a J Award.

Dr. Seuss Meets Elefant Traks

19 09 2012

Featuring over 25 musical performers onstage from The Herd, Hermitude, Sietta, Joelistics, Unkle Ho, Urthboy, The Tongue, Jimblah, Jaytee of The Last Kinection and more, Australia’s renowned musical collective Elefant Traks are taking over the Graphic circus with a tribute inspired by the whimsical spirit and imagery of Dr. Seuss.

Throughout over 60 years of children’s classics such as The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, the wildly imaginative and surrealist universe of Dr. Seuss has enthralled generations. He continues to be one of the world’s most instantly recognisable and best loved visual storytellers.

‘All ready to put up the tents for my circus… and now comes an act of enormous enormance! No former performer’s performed this performance!’ – excerpt from Dr. Seuss’ If I Ran the Circus

Since making their live debut over a decade ago, Elefant Traks artists have entertained far and wide, capping off 2011 with Hermitude winning triple j’s Video of the Year. Australia’s most innovative label will now play with the iconic work of Dr. Seuss in a specially commissioned show for Graphic 2012.

Maintaining their motto to make ‘challenging yet adventurous’ music, the Elefant Crew are set for a fresh injection of Dr. Seuss’ prescription for fun in this fantastically imaginative performance.

Elefant Traks Welcomes New Signing Jimblah

10 09 2012

The most striking thing about Jimblah is not his ability to sing, rap and produce beats, it’s the eyebrow-raising fact he does them all so well. His flow alone outshines most MCs, but his tone and singing style are so memorable, so drenched in soul, it’s music for the heart.

Then consider his signature dusty, chopped-up melodic productions and you begin to understand Jimblah is truly a special talent. Elefant Traks have watched him with great admiration and believe his album Face the Fire should be in everyone’s collection. It transcends hip hop, soul or indie music scenes, or even radio; it’s an album with the rare quality of being able to hang back a little, as though not desperate for your attention, knowing that you’ll be drawn in before long. It’s that good.

So Elefant Traks did the right and proper thing, they’re releasing it for free at www.jimblah.com. Jimblah was the inaugural winner of the Hilltop Hoods Initiative and was last week’s triple j Unearthed Artist of the Week.

‘Since dropping one of my favourite local tracks of the year ‘Capitol City’, Jimblah continues growing and progressing. I can’t wait to see where he takes his music next’ — Suffa (Hilltop Hoods).

Jimblah’s new record will be released on Elefant Traks in 2013.

Urthboy – Smokey’s Haunt

6 09 2012

Co-produced by Hermitude and Countbounce, Smokey’s Haunt is an incredibly produced album of storytelling, flow and melody. Urthboy is at his peak, weaving tales of the city with his past and present; celebrating life with a collection of songs balanced by the tension of light and darkness.

The album should be experienced whole: Smokey’s Haunt is a meeting place of moods that are complete when connected together. The album comes with a 28 page booklet and triple panel digipack. It’s the follow-up album to Spitshine and The Signal, both finalists in the Australian Music Prize. Spitshine won the Australian Independent Award for Best Urban Album; The Signal was nominated for a J Award.

The guests on the record all bring a vitality to their songs. Alex Burnett’s soaring beauty in The Big Sleep is a showstopper; Bobby Flynn’s haunting comfort in Hey Dianne is unforgettable and long-time collaborators Jane Tyrrell and Mark Pearl (Texture Like Sun) are stunning.

There are only a few rappers guesting: the legendary Delta shows why he’s a king in the local scene; while young guns Solo and Jimblah both deliver the greats.

Jimblah – Face The Fire

31 01 2012

Former Hilltop Hoods Initiative winner Jimblah, is a young Aboriginal man, identifying as Larrakia and Yanuwa. He was born in Broome, in northern Western Australia and grew up in Katherine in the Northern Territory. Jimblah has been living and making music in Adelaide for the last 12 to 13 years.

Jimblah moved from the Northern parts of Australia to Adelaide at a young age and quickly fell in to the Hip Hop scene there, originally influenced by more commercial Hip Hop, but learning more about Hip Hop as a way of life and a culture the more he became involved in the local scene. He started out by freestyling regularly, rapping with others and writing tracks by the age of 15.  Alongside fast-becoming a veteran rapper, Jimblah is also a well-respected DJ and Producer. He aims to provide production to much of his own music as well as others.

Jimblah has toured extensively across Australia and uses both his music and his intellect to give voice to young people, particularly young Indigenous people. As such, Jimblah represents Australian and Indigenous Hip Hop on the international stage, being a member of the Australian Youth Music Council and recently attending the 3rd International World Music Forum in Tunisia, North Africa. This allowed him the opportunity to run his own session entitled, “Hip Hop as a tool for social change” at the 4th world forum of music in Tallin, Estonia. Jimblah is the only Indigenous Australian to have attended this prestigious Forum, which is convened by the International Music Council bi-annually.

Jimblah has just released his self produced debut album, titled, Face the Fire. With a National tour planned for this year, keep an eye open for Jimblah.
