Hau’s Version Excursion – ‘Get In My Life’ (Original By Hermitude)

13 05 2011

Original by Hermitude (http://www.elefanttraks.com)

Lyrics:
(verse one)
As soon as I heard the sirens
I looked for the nearest spot that I could hide in
Leapt over a fire hydrant to slide in…
Between a Merc’ and some white thing
They shone the light in, forced me to scatter like a cockraoch
They got close, I’m cooking under pressure like a pot roast
Blokes like me have got choked once caught
So that one thought alone makes me run towards..
This one door that’s half open, so I’m scopin’
Around to check if the coast is clear, here’s hopin’
Dashed for the doorway, heard a crash
I turned and saw two pigs; one with a mustache
The other with tatts and a toothpick
Latched onto my backpack before his shoes slipped
I squeezed through the opening
Into a lounge room full of startled people on the sofa when…
The pigs rush in, said “Hold it, ya black c*nt!”
C’mon man, I ain’t that dumb
Ran through the kitchen, slipped in some liquid, stumbled
Felt a swift kick in the ribs, made me crumble
Got to my feet, right hook to his chin
Sent him head first into the bread bin
Pig number two came through like a raged bull
Crash tackled me into the the dining table, sounding like…
Glass and plates flying everywhere
The pig dancing on my face like Fred Astaire
Shield my head before it gets mangled
Reached for a fork then stuck it in his f*ckin’ ankle
I got up, a head-butt sent him backwards
My 1, 2′s strong, laid him out like a futon mattress
Stopped to catch my breath
Til more pigs came, now it’s time to jet!

(chorus)
Feet don’t fail me now
I keep running, running…

(verse two)
Out the backdoor fast as Usain
Or Bruce Wayne out the Bat Cave, exhausting blue flames
Pigs close behind
I feel their breath on my neck, it’s time to kick into overdrive
Run down the alley, someone opens up their car door
I leap over using the wall like it was parkour
Made it to the main street, skipping through traffic
Nearly hit by a taxi
Over the hood, rolling off like a gymnast
Inches away from being permanently injured
Slightly winded, but I move like the wind did
Sprinted towards the subway, as I entered…
A cop shot up in the air, everybody hit the deck
Except me, I was outta there, down the stairs
Onto the platform, jumped a train
But when two cops came the train pulled off
I looked around the car
To see if there were any cops to round me up
Got me pacing, walking down and up
It’s looking like it’s sound as f*ck
So I crash on the seat, feeling safer
Thinking ’bout them c*nts and how they lumped my face up
Next station, I’m stepping off
But six pigs on the platform, shit, once again it’s on!

(chorus)

Lyrics:
(chorus one)
I’ve got my pen in hand and I’m writing for the life of me
Sometimes it’s like hide-n-seek, writing down what I can see
I got a blank piece of paper and vast vocab so…
Let’s see where it takes me (x3)

True penmanship, nothing could ever censor this…
mind state, don’t try mate, that could result in endless dentist trips
Or drips from the IV
Pen is hand and got the b*tch in a tight squeeze
Writing with the intent to hurt like a parking inspector
That’s just part of the repertoire
Fast as some zebras are dashing through dry grass
Passion for style & refusing to be type casted
B*astard way of thinking, when I’m linking the two
When you’re facing these bars like some chimps in a zoo
Please don’t feed the lion/ lyin’ cos only the truth is heard
The sign on the door says, “Do Disturb”, come on in…

(chorus one)

(verse two)
I knew the truth like the back of my hand
Made my way home, like you see the turtle’s tracks in the sand
Or like removalists packin’ a van, time to relo-
cate, mind state, kill the ego
What’s happening man? You chillin’? Heard they made the world a safer…
Place to be in since they killed that villain
Not sure how I’m feelin’ but I do know that killin’ is killin’
And there’s always loved ones illin’
Fillin’ in holes that are six-feet deep
Or just dump the body out in the sea
Yeah, it’s a grim world, lives controlled through Intel
But I’m in my own, so let the ink spill…

(chorus two)
Hey young world, what’s happening out there? Are you feeling good?
Put up a fist if you’ve felt better days than today
So tell me how you… gonna make it better?
This is the sound to… to get it together.
Get it together…

(verse three)
It ain’t nothin’ to knock that stuffin’…
Out of the beat. I don’t need weed to puff in-
Fact, I’m stone cold sober: Steve Austin
Run the rhythm like some Adidas Torsions
Cautions and warnings, calling the storm in
Here’s some rain and hail, nail the boards in
Thoughts in progress, no stress, no sweat
I already got what you don’t get
Yeah, I’m a pro, vet, old school king etcetera
Ahead of the class you can’t pass or enter the…
Percentile I’m in, I do it no problem
Cos I do it often
You wanna swim with the big fish? Get Your swimming tog then
Huegill, yeah, I blow my own bugle
Not talking ’bout drawings when I say, “you like to doodle”
Oodles and oodles of O’s, I got the ’91 flow…
Refixed for the 21st Century
Do a show, break a leg with no injury
Got a tendency to mention me often
Cos if I don’t, who will? So dude, chill
My track records like a news reel
Take the ‘land’ from the name, you’re left with ‘New Zeal…”
Causing an Urban Disturbance
Superb since I came through the curtains
Making the most of… So I learn from my mistakes
I just hope you’re as good as me when you’re this age…

Drapth to headline Come Together 2011 feat. Mantra, The Tongue, Muph & Pluto, Urthboy, Illy & M-Phazes

4 05 2011

After seven years of providing a distinctly domestic soundtrack to June long weekend, Come Together keeps its focus on showcasing the best of homegrown talent with an exciting new twist for its eighth incarnation. Come Together returns in 2011, for one day only on Saturday June 11th. We’ve revamped, refreshed, recharged, renovated and are ready to roll out the musical movers and shakers with an all Australian hip hop line-up set to have the Big Top jumping.

Lining up front and center & fresh from nailing down the highest ranked hip hop single at number 12 on the Triple J Hottest 100, is hip-hop artist on the rise Drapht. Hailing from Perth, Drapht emerged onto the scene alongside fellow WA heavy hitters Downsyde and Fdel and has since established himself as an MC on the up having polished his on-stage antics alongside the likes of the Hilltop Hoods, Dilated Peoples and Koolism amongst others.
Rocking the stage with his sensational live band, Come Together will be the exclusive Sydney show on his Life of Riley album tour. With the help of his friends Jimmy Recard and Rapunzel. Drapht’s incredible live show is sure to bring the bounce to Come Together, leaving punters with a bigger grin than the face they walked in to the Park through. Joining Drapht at Come Together is Urthboy, alongside his two cohorts Jane & Elgusto. Acclaimed albums, awards, nominations and a recent European tour are testament to Urthboy’s status as one of the scene’s true champions, with his set sure to demonstrate exactly why.
Fellow card-carrying member of the hit making fraternity Illy will also be hustling up the highway from Melbourne to take part in this hip hop throw down. With his single It Can Wait continuing to rock radios around the country, Illy’s spitfire delivery is sure to have the masses heaving from the get go. Come Together 2011 also sees the familiar faces of Muph & Plutonic return to drop their brand of head nodding hi-jinks. With renowned producer Plutonic Lab swapping the switches for the skins and supplying the beats for Muph to play verbal wordsmith, this party starting one, two punch will deliver a set to remember.

With his calling card of soulful, boom bap beats M-Phazes arrives at Come Together with an ARIA in his record bag courtesy of his work with Bliss’N’Eso and also from his 2010 album Good Gracious. The Tongue will also be on hand to step in and step it up, ready to take the Big Top over with mic in hand and cypher at the ready. Sharpening his razor sharp flow in the battle arena, The Tongue broke through with his high rotation bangers The Punch and Bad Education and with his recent release Alternative Energy following the same path, The Tongue is one live performer not to be missed. The lyrically gifted Mantra has harnessed his word play and elevated himself into the upper stratosphere of Australian MC’s. With the recent release of his debut long player; The Power of the Spoken, Mantra is one of Melbourne finest.  With a roll call of Aussie hip hop hierarchy; Come Together 2011 has also chopped the ticket price with this year’s tickets at only $59 (inc gst and booking fee) which includes access to the Park’s rides between 1pm and 5pm on the day for Come Together fans. Come Together is a licensed all ages event. Doors open at 4.30pm, finishing at 11pm.

Vents – History Of The World: Refix by Hau from Koolism

29 04 2011

OK, here is the story. Hau from Koolism was meant to write a review for Adelaide emcee & Golden Era Records signee, Vents’, new album, Marked For Death (which is out early May) for Triple J Mag. Unfortunately/ fortunately, Golden Era Records sent the single for History of the World instead. On it was the instrumental. So Hau being a fan of the song and an emcee, he naturally wanted to do his thing over it. He had just bought a Rode USB mic to demo stuff up on and here it is.

Lyrics:
Since the day I was born , I had worn every stereotype
Like it’s some badge of honour shit, in fact quite the opposite
Weight on my shoulders like an obelisk
While them coppers sit in their rocket ship popping sh*t off their t*ts
Novices at being officers
Standing on top of the oesophagus of little pick pocketers
Combing the metropolis for dark kids
That’s what we call shopping at the black market
Parted ways from the early days
Sent brothers like me to an early grave onto the pearly gates
We’re warne out
Like Elizabeth Hurley’s mate, now it’s a nervous weight
For the generation next up
You’re facin’ kids with less patience and less trust
There’s politics and crime world war in demand
And that’s just on this land — history of the world

(yeah)
They can rob us all blind, but when I take it back it’s crime
You’ll find my indigenous brothers trying to climb
Between the line of … correct channels and, by any means necessary
Cos they’re keen to get every thing owed
To them and their family tree
And it seems like a fantasy
To live this fancy free but instead live angrily
Everyday battle in shackled hands and feet
And this… land ain’t cheap, so to reap rewards
They have to say fuck the demands of the landlord
All the damn corp-orations we’re facin’ with more slick moves than dancefloors
I’m changing the music, more intelligent and less stupid
Is the best bet, so let’s get to it
Nothing like what you’ve asked for
A little matter of genocide, let it ride — history of the world!

Spending more time with the ones I hate than the ones I love
So when the push comes to shove, the fun is up
When the… thunder comes to swallow up the summer’s sun
The fury’s louder than a hundred guns
I’m a… turn the speaker… up
Plus a firm believer… in karma
Watch the drama unfold like a sleeping bag
On those trying to keep the people back
Sex, lies & videotape, keeping secrets that
Let the cheaters prosper and feed us crap
Via the news, bias views
But I refuse to lose
But they got police to beat me up, prison to lock me up
Wearing new swastikas
To kill thugs that’s just like me fire away
For the freedom of getting f*cked everyday in the world

Australia’s top hip hop artists unite to speak for multiculturalism

18 04 2011

Australia’s top Hip Hop artists, including hip hop legend Hau of Koolism and international award winning slam poet and rapper Omar bin Musa, have come together to speak out against the recent attacks on multiculturalism.

In a hip hop video specially recorded in support of the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia (FECCA), the four artists of diverse cultural backgrounds (Malaysian, Indian, Greek and Tongan Australians) expressed their personal take on the recent issues.

FECCA is the national peak body representing multicultural Australians.

FECCA has been inundated with responses from communities and leaders across Australia about recent articles in the mainstream press declaring the failure of multiculturalism.

Omar Bin Musa says in his piece “Everyone look in my eyes, being patriotic doesn’t mean I can’t criticize [the] system that I live in.” In calling for a change in attitudes, Greek Australian rapper and poet Lesson MC says, “Change is much more than the coins in your pockets. It takes a new way to see the world through your sockets.”

They say if you stand for nothing you’ll fall for anything, developing an awful legacy

 - Hau, Koolism

The artists were accompanied by star beatboxer, Kodak.

FECCA ran a national campaign last year called “Reclaim Multiculturalism” which attracted wide support. FECCA’s current campaign is “Advancing Multiculturalism” and the video is released in support of this.

FECCA Chair Pino Migliorino said, “In times when multiculturalism comes under attack, we need to hear the voices of Australians for whom this is not a choice anymore. Young Australians model for us the innovative richness of cross cultural interactions. We have to stop the blame game on religions and cultures and get on with the task of building the structures of our new multicultural policy.”

The video is one of many strategies that FECCA will use to support the cause of multiculturalism in its current campaign.

D’Opus & Roshambo – new album ‘Past Time’ out early April through Mercury Switch/Inertia

21 03 2011

Canberra producer & emcee duo D’Opus & Roshambo have teamed up again to bring out their long-awaited second LP Past Time, which includes the promotional single Come Find Out featuring Chanel Cole. The album will be released on April 8 on Mercury Switch Lab through Inertia.

The duo have drawn from a pool of Australian artists to collaborate on songs throughout Past Time, with Hau (Koolism), Muph (Muph & Plutonic), Dialectrix, Scott Burns, and Mdusu all contributing guest verses to the album. Chanel Cole, member of trip hop group Spook, provides her unique voice on the tracks Bring Happiness and Come Find Out. Nearly three years on since their successful last album The Switch, the duo describe the evolution of themes on Past Time:“‘The Switch’ was, for the most part, a kind of story-telling record, soaked in the experience of melancholy, the darkness of regret, and of disappointment in self. This album [Past Time] is drenched in feelings of relief, happiness, contentment, excitement and opportunity. It is a record about moving on and traveling to a brighter future.”

Tracklist:
01. All I Need
02. Come Find Out (w/ Chanel Cole)
03. No One (I Can Depend On) (w/ Hau)
04. Sound Is A Weapon
05. Action Montage
06. Left To Right (The D’O Funk)
07. Bring Happiness (w/ Chanel Cole)
08. Addictive (w/ Jeff Hann)
09. My Space (w/ Muph)
10. Run To The Sun (w/ Junior)
11. The Push Over
12. Tell Her No (w/ Mdusu, Scott Burns & Dialectrix)
13. Terrorist Is Us

To celebrate the new album the guys are giving away a free album tune Left To Right (The D’O Funk) thanks to the good people at Inertia. It’s a nice and simple groove, sending dedication to the DJ (in this case Mr. D’Opus himself). We hope you like the tune and please feel free to download it by visiting the link below and share it with your friends.
