Dwizofoz – Art Intimidates Life

20 05 2013

Hailing from the sleepy Queensland capital city known as Boomtown, Dwizofoz has been around for more than a minute now. A big man with a big presence. At 26, Dwizofoz is a young leader in Brisbane hip hop who has earnt a reputation as an animal on the mic with his unique rapid fire flow delivery, honest and clever yet hard hitting and thought out lyrics and an undeniable passion for what he does.

Dwizofoz

The long awaited follow up to his Baked Not Fried EP (released 2009) is Art Intimidates Life. A collection of tracks that serves as an audiobiography of sorts, this album takes listeners on a journey to get to know who Dwizofoz is as a person, a father and as an emcee. Kicking off the album in a big way is In My Shoes a tale of how Dwiz used to have to make ends meet for himself at a young age growing up in housing commission communities. Other notable standouts on the album are Take What’s Mine and title track Art Intimidates Life feat. DJ Dcide, which represent Dwiz’s mission statement, that he’s in it for the long haul and isn’t going away any time soon.

Style with Bias B is a powerful example of Dwizofoz’s explosive way with words, and stands to cement Dwiz’s place as one of the best, if not at least most unique lyricists in the country. Dwiz also switches up the tone on the album with tracks like The Wrong One feat. Mr Hill, a track dedicated to scandalous bitches everywhere, Can Happen To You a short, inspired by a true story tale clearly close to Dwiz’s own heart and Her Letter a song written for his daughter over a spine tingling Mdusu instrumental.

With this album, Dwizofoz is sure to break free of the “battle host” tag he’s probably best known for and secure himself a reputation as a leader among the next generation of emcee’s coming out of our shores.

New Music: Mr Hill & Rahjconkas – ‘Dead End Street’ feat. Muph

31 03 2013

After a highly productive debut year in 2012, March 2013 sees the 2nd single release for one of local hip hop’s hardest working up and coming duo’s Mr Hill & Rahjconkas. In the space of one year they have firmly made a place for themselves in the industry and gained respect and accolades from genre veterans.

Dead End Street feat. Muph

2013 is shaping up to be no different. Since the release of their first single in October 2012 Put The Work In, popularity for this young duo has gained increasingly. Being chosen by triple j unearthed to play at Brisbane’s hiphop festival Sprung, saw the boys perform on a major platform with overwhelming support.

These “Next Crop” artists are back with their latest single and title track to the new release. Dead End Street. An energetic brass section with catchy vocal samples line a once again powerful chorus delivered by Rahjconkas. Again showing their solidarity with veteran artists, Australian hip hop legend Muph (Muph & Plutonic) has thrown a guest verse down for this single. Speaking about where he has come from as an artist to where he is now.

With Mr Hill being based in Brisbane QLD, and Rahjconkas in Wagga Wagga NSW, collaborating is always difficult. But with several short trips to each other’s homes this album has again come together quite easily in the space of 10 months. Proving to the critics their constant drive and work ethic. Set to release May 17th around the country, this is the second taste of what this new and highly anticipated album will sound like. High energy, charismatic, yet at times deep and thought provoking.

Mr Hill is currently on tour until April with his best friend Seven as they travel the country supporting Australian icon Drapht on his uni-verse tour. They are again planning on hitting the road in June on their own headline tour to all major capital cities following the release of Dead End Street.

Seven – The Island

5 02 2013

Since the release of Good Thing late in 2011, Seven has risen from relative obscurity to being heralded as ‘the one to watch’ amongst his peers. He now returns with single The Island,’ an upbeat take on a downturn that ooze’s the summer life that Seven chases so frenetically.

Seven The Island

The ongoing partnership with Brisbane producer Cam Bluff again proves to be a rewarding one, with Bluff bringing his trademark drums to the tune in the only way he knows how, strong. Still, The Island sits on a different tangent to the previous work of the Gold Coast rapper, but given the independent operation run by the team themselves, maybe they don’t care. After a year working on a YouTube project with Mr Hill, Seven is now focussed on his third and final EP, In Transit. Loose and carefree, The Island is put together the only way Zach knows how; raw, honest and charismatic; it is the first hint at what is to come from In Transit.

Seven finished 2012 by joining the hip-hop mega bill of Sprung Festival, aswell as joining Spit Syndicate and Allday in a quick dash around the East Coast. He, along with close friend Mr Hill are heading around the country in February and March in Support of Drapht’s ‘Uni-Verse’ Tour. In Transit will be released in mid 2013 in-line with a national tour before the rapper retreats to his island (literally) for the second half of the year.

Bolstered by the humble independent label, the compilation birthed a generation of hip hop heavyweights, recognised today as the true pioneers of a flourishing industry. Hilltop Hoods, Muph & Plutonic, Bias B, Pegz, the late Hunter and more united to give the growing genre a voice.

Obesecity 2 – Track List Revealed

25 07 2012

Obesecity was released 10 years ago when the Aussie hip hop genre was very unpolished and misunderstood. Crews from across Australia had been linking up for shows and various other reasons, but the scene was relatively insular and invisible to mainstream society. What Obesecity and Culture of Kings managed to create, was a unity and strength, which in its exceptional nature forced people to sit up and take notice. Since that point, Australian hip hop hasn’t really looked back. We are now a thriving industry, and part of what defines modern Australia. Obesecity 2, in essence, is about reflecting on all of it, and realising how far we’ve come.” – Pegz

The diversity noted in the subject matter is reflective of age, circumstance and inclination, laid forth by the nation’s most unconventionally outspoken social conscience. Obesecity 2 is not only an ode to its genre-defining predecessor, but a time capsule, which will undoubtedly be prized for its conviction in this age of mass production and impersonal media.

Just Matters – Born As One EP

5 07 2012

A year has gone by since the name Just Matters was first spoken. Starting off as an Acapella writer, in March 2011 Matters made the switch to the studio. Just Matters now brings you his debut original the Born As One EP

Just worked with numerous artists before launching head first into the creation of his own EP. One of those initial projects involved Brisbane artist Heap-Rize, the result a track by the name of Interruptions, which received air time on triple j unearthed Radio.

Just Matters was also in contact with producer Cam Bluff, who at the time was working on a few side projects away from his main position as Beat-maker in the Vegas Aces outfit. Matters was a huge fan of Bluffs big brass style, and thought the sound was perfect for his debut original piece. Cam agreed to work with Matters as an executive producer along side the sounds of Dave Redi (Amsterdam), Chase Moore (San Francisco) and Soul Marauder (Brisbane) as co-producers.

The Born As One EP is out now and features Mr. Hill, Kimberley Mowat, Zac Slater and Chase Moore.
