Bliss N Eso Announce New Album ‘Circus In The Sky’ + ‘House Of Dreams’ Tour

20 05 2013

The Frontier Touring Company and Illusive are excited to announce iconic hip-hop trio Bliss N Eso’s highly-anticipated return to the touring circuit this July with their House of Dreams tour. This tour announcement comes off the back of the release of Home Is Where The Heart Is - the first official single from their upcoming new album Circus In The Sky.

Bliss N Eso Circus In the Sky album cover

The six-date tour will cover all mainland capital cities in the band’s first headline tour since 2011 when they embarked on the highest-selling tour by an Australian hip-hop act. This is the first chance fans will get to experience the tracks from Circus In The Sky in the flesh, alongside the cult classics from their back catalogue. Bliss N Eso will be joined by two very special guests – Alabama’s rising star Yelawolf and local superstar Pez.

Since signing to Eminem’s Shady Records in 2011, Yelawolf has become one of the world’s most hyped emerging rap artists. In the years since, he’s released his critically acclaimed debut album Trunk Muzik and featured on tracks alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran, Big Boi, A$AP Rocky, Big K.R.I.T. and Travis Barker just to name a few.

Melbourne’s Pez made his welcome return to the spotlight in recent months with the release of his latest single The Game and is tipped for an enormous 2013. Bliss N Eso have also confirmed the release date for their upcoming new album Circus In The Sky as Friday 28 June 2013. It follows on from 2010’s hugely acclaimed Running On Air which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Album Chart and achieved platinum sales.

Solidifying their reputation as artists that love to pack as much value as possible into each release, they’ve delivered another 17-track epic with a running time of an hour. As rumoured, it features a guest appearance from New York hip-hop icon Nas on I Am Somebody – arguably their biggest feature to date. Further down the tracklisting are appearances from nomadic Melbourne soul export Daniel Merriweather on Can’t Get Rid of This Feeling and rising American singer-songwriter Ceekay Jones, whom the boys befriended on their most recent US headline tour. Possibly the most interesting inclusion on the tracklist comes via posse cut Reservoir Dogs, which features a who’s who of contemporary local hip-hop – seeing them joined by 360, Pez, Seth Sentry and Drapht.

The mysterious winged character that has inhabited the band’s two previous album covers has made its third appearance on the newly revealed ‘Circus in the Sky’ artwork, albeit in an unexpected form. Following from Steve Cross’ illustrated covers on Flying Colours and Running On Air, the band have teamed up with world-renowned digital artist Justin Maller to create a spectacularly vivid piece which sees the character looking towards Earth from afar. Justin is a Melburnian living in New York who has worked with the likes of Nike, Coca-Cola and the Grammys.

Circus In The Sky is now available for pre-orderr. There are a half a dozen pre-order options which include a digital version (including instant Home Is Where The Heart Is single download); signed CDs accompanied by t-shirts, iPhone covers and stubby holders alongside bundled packs including the album and House Of Dreams Tour tickets.

Circus In The Sky drops June 28, through Illusive.

Event Preview: Spit Syndicate’s Sunday Gentlemen Tour Hits Adelaide

15 04 2013

The boys from Spit Syndicate have been touring the country following the release of their third album, Sunday Gentlemen, and this Thursday is Adelaide’s turn. Fellow One Day Crew members Jackie Onassis are joining the SS for the huge 20 date tour which hits Jive Bar on the 18th.

ss-jive-poster copy

With Spit Syndicate’s singles Beauty In The Bricks and Folly getting a lot of JJJ love, as well as Jackie Onassis’s single Crystal Balling being on high rotation for many months, and their new single from their Holiday EP, Smoke Trails being added a few weeks ago the Sunday Gentlemen tour is no doubt going to be epic. 2013 is set to be a massive year for these boys from the inner west of Sydney, with both acts also being announced as part of the huge Come Together line up in June.

Joining them in Adelaide will be our very own Koolta, winner of the 2011 Hilltop Hoods Initiative.  With tickets still available, we don’t know what else you’d rather be doing on a Thursday night in Adelaide. Go here to get them.

Spit Syndicate are also playing as a part of the Movement Festival alongside acts like Nas, Bliss N Eso, Joey Badass, Chiddy Bang, Diafrix and Iggy Azalea. Jimmy Nice chatted to us a few weeks ago about Sunday Gentlemen and the Movement festival tour, peep that here.

Bliss N Eso – House Of Dreams

5 03 2013

Live Nation and Niche Productions are proud to present, in association with American Hip-Hop legend Nas, the inaugural 2013 Australian Movement Festival. Filling the void of credible Hip-Hop events in Australia, the Movement Festival places Grammy award winning Hip Hop heavyweights, with mixtape kings and local heros in what’s destined to takeover as THE Hip Hop event each and every year in Australia.

bliss n eso house of dreams
Setting a new standard, Movement looks to the future of Hip Hop and Rap whilst still catering to a solid Hip-Hop foundation, thanks to the festival’s co-headliner and co-curator Nas. With more than 20 years in the business and often called the greatest rapper alive, Nas is an artist who needs little or no introduction.

Arguably Australia’s biggest Hip Hop group, Bliss N Eso wasted no time graduating from triple j airplay to racking up the spins on commercial networks. In 2006, Bliss N Eso’s second album, Day Of The Dog, was released and became the first Australian hip-hop release to debut in ARIA’s top 50. It also earned Bliss N Eso an ARIA nomination for Best Urban Release in 2006 with sales exceeding all benchmarks for a local hip-hop release. Bliss N Eso are crusaders in the fight against poverty, in 2007 the boys went on a Make Poverty History Zero Seven road trip tour and ventured on a journey with MTV and the Oaktree Foundation to some of the poorest regions in South Africa. Their third LP Flying Colours, broke records for an Australian hip-hop act. With a top 10 ARIA debut, the album became the highest selling local hip-hop album of the year and with their third nomination in as many years, Bliss N Eso took out the ARIA Award for 2008’s Best Urban Release.

In 2010 Bliss n Eso released their 4th Album Running On Air to critical acclaim, the album debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts and achieved gold sales within its first week. Known for their electrifying live shows Bliss N Eso currently hold the record for the biggest local hip-hop tour of all time from their 2011Australian tour, the Sydney trio are set to tear the roof off all Movement venues.

Joining Nas and Bliss N Eso is debatably one of the most heard voices in Rap in 2012: 2 Chainz. Another Def Jam signee, Chainz appeared on such massive tracks as Mercy (with Kanye West for Cruel Summer), Beez In The Trap (Nicki Minaj) and his own club hits Birthday Song and I Luv Dem Strippers. 2 Chainz has become a dominant force and somewhat the unofficial voice of Trap music.

Radio faves Chiddy Bang return to Australia after tearing up the Parklife circuit 2012. Flanked by certified radio and chart bangers like the ARIA chart top 10 and MGMT sampling Opposite Of Adults, Mind Your Manners or Ray Charles, Chiddy Bang bring an overwhelming party vibe to Movement’s lineup.

Also on the bill are mixtape King and Queen Joey Bada$$ and Angel Haze, who are poised to set the world on fire with their new albums in 2013. Bada$$ is known for his throwback style, leaning more on beats akin to A Tribe Called Quest than many of his contemporaries but still with a modern twist.

Rounding out the lineup are Spit Syndicate (Melb, Bris and Perth) and Thundamentals (Sydney only), two well respected local groups who epitmoise the direction in which Hip Hop is headed in Australia. Opening the day will be a triple j Unearthed Winner judged in each city by host of triple j Hip Hop Show host Hau Latukefu and the team at triple j, plus seamlessly segueing the live sets will be a host of each city’s best DJs. Taking the Hip Hop scene to exciting new heights Movement hits Australia late April, and promises to give audiences a quality event with this all star line-up of both local and international talent. Do not miss out on the Hip Hop event of 2013!

Nas to headline ‘Movement’

Setting a new standard, Movement looks to the future of Hip Hop and Rap whilst still catering to a solid Hip-Hop foundation, thanks to the festival’s co-headliner and co-curator Nas. With more than 20 years in the business and often called the greatest rapper alive, Nas is an artist who needs little or no introduction. The gifted Queens, NY lyricist has come on board as a partner for the event, hand-picking a lineup of the best local and international artists, from Grammy nominees to up and coming mixtape kings and queens.

In the lead up to this year’s event Nas has also announced he will be recording a collaboration with ARIA Award winners and multi-platinum selling local artist Bliss N Eso (who will also be launching their new album in time for Movement 2013), a significant feat which demonstrates the depth of Nas’ involvement in Movement and his commitment to the territory.

Nas’ authority over the genre makes him the ideal candidate to command Movement’s inaugural event, and his contribution will be ongoing as he will also be involved in an artistic and programming capacity for the 2014 and 2015 events. Nas’ 2012 LP Life Is Good has been heralded as one of the best of his 11 album spanning career. A potent collection of what he is best known for; amazing wordplay, intricately woven street stories and the best collaborations in the business it features guest spots from Rick Ross, Mary J Blige, Miguel, the late Amy Winehouse and many more. His catalogue boasts such certifiable Hip Hop classics as Made You Look, Hip Hop Is Dead, I Can, The Don, As We Enter (with Damian Marley), If I Ruled The World, It Ain’t Hard To Tell, The World Is Yours, One Love making him one of the most impressive figures in the genre ever.

Low Budget – A Hard Act To Follow [Free Download]

7 03 2011

After a stellar 2009 in which ribald hip hop duo Low Budget released their sophomore longplayer Laserdisc to critical acclaim, slid their single Tailor Made into the AIR charts and won Triple J’s Unearthed competition to electrify Splendour in the Grass (not to mention notching up high-profile supporting slots for the likes of Nas and Redman & Method Man), the Melbourne pair is back in the laboratory putting the finishing touches on their latest piece of weird science – the forthcoming Poolside EP.

A Hard Act to Follow, the lead single from the EP, finds MC Gentleman Gene’s lothario flow skating with finesse over DJ/producer Debonair P’s finger-popping wild west funk. The result is a perfect illustration of the energetic back-to-basics approach that has both enticed a steady stream of fans and made the group a long-standing favourite on the live circuit. With A Hard Act to Follow, Low Budget delivers an enticing taste of what promises to be one of 2011’s most entertaining releases.

Prophet Rayza: “This Is” film clip [6 Books EP]

12 01 2011

This is the official film clip for This Is, the lead single off Prophet Rayza’s (QLD) debut EP Six Books. Released November 12th 2010 on Born Fresh Records and distributed nationally by MGM.

For ten years now Prophet Rayza has been a stronghold in the Australian Hip Hop scene perfecting his talents across the four elements of Hip Hop as an emcee, breakdancer, graffiti artist and beatboxer. His passion for the art form stems from his first train trip from Brisbane to Melbourne at five years of age, when he first saw graffiti and told his mother when he grew up that he would do it too. At 16 he was exposed to Hip Hop through graffiti and soon after became a bboy (breakdancer). At this point in time, rhyming was second to break dancing and purely a hobby.

As the years passed and he perfected his craft, his natural ability as a performer through break dancing led him to pick up a microphone and hypnotize the crowd in a whole new way. As anyone who has been to one of his live show can attest, Prophet Rayza is one of the most vibrant and energetic performers in the country. With a passion and drive for perfection, Prophet Rayza draws from his musical inspiration the likes of Nas, Rakim, Ice T, KRS One and Wu Tang Clan.

His performance past reads like a who’s who of Hip Hop having performed alongside such greats as Grandmaster Flash, DJ Q-Bert, Kool Keith, Lord Finesse, Grandmaster Roc Raida, Q-Unique, MC Supernatural, Talib Kweli and local legends Def Wish Cast, Muph and Plutonic, Drapht and the list goes on. In 2009 he released the Spits and Pieces mixtape which went on to move all of the limited 5,000 copies pressed within two months of its release (and over 650 downloads to date) and was Nominated for Oz Hip Hop Awards “Mixtape of the Year” 2009.

Recently releasing his debut EP Six Books on Born Fresh Records, Rayza has worked with some of this countries and abroads most up and coming producers including Daneja (pronounced Danger) from New York (production for Kool G Rap, KRS One, Immortal Technique, Joell Ortiz), Dats of The Optimen (production for Thiristin Howl III, The Optimen, Pure Product), Tommy Illfigga and DJ Butcher of Crate Creeps (production for Mantra, Thundamentals, Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated Peoples) and Cam Bluff of Vegas Aces (production for Spit Syndicate, The Tongue, Raven), you can be sure to expect big things from one of Australian Hip Hops fastest rising stars.

Interview with Eloquor about his new album ‘Charge’

29 06 2010

Charge is the title to your highly anticipated second LP release, after the successful debut effort on Move Up. Whats  been the biggest change for you personally and musically going into the making of Charge?
I guess I was much more picky with the beats I chose for Charge. I really tried to get as many beat reels together from as many strong producers as I possibly could to get the sound I was after. I also got to hypeman for Briggs on the Hilltop Hoods tour last year which definitely influenced my perspective on how I wanted my music to grow.

We’ve heard the whole album and it seems like another win for hip hop in Australia. What’s it been like earning the support of Obese Records and obviously those from within the hip hop community?
I’ve busted my arse for many years to generate a strong support network. It has not at all come easily or quickly. That being said, having Obese Records, my manager, publicist, engineer, producers and other significant individuals backing me up and giving me a chance, has made it possible for me to make this album the best it can be. It’s very hard to get anywhere in this industry without a strong team behind you, with people who believe in what you do.

The album features production from some of the biggest names in the business most noted M-Phazes and Jase, but also WIK and Pokerbeats who both deliver some heat on their respective tracks. We’ve heard around the traps that the beats for this album cost about a million in cash is that true or just an unfounded rumor?
Very close to a million in Cash, you’re not far off at all. No wonder I work 2 jobs to make this album happen!

We found that Charge strikes that perfect balance between the party type tracks like ‘Rap Star’ and ‘Berroca’ and also the tracks that get a little more philosophical in their approach like the lead single ‘Keep On’ and ‘Pressure’s On’. Did you go into this album with that as a mission in mind?
I actually started this album thinking I wanted to make an album full of soul sampled bangers. I listened to a lot of Common and Nas while writing, and wanted to make an album that is very Hip Hop without straying in to the realm of electronica or hip pop. Eventually I just picked beats which evoked an idea, story or emotion with me, and went from there.I just think its important for artists to produce work which is honest to who they are. I’m quite a philosophical person so I have to write about issues and ideas which circulate in my mind. Not all my songs are deep and thought-provoking, some are there to have fun and enjoy without the audience having to analyze too much.

You have been described as a ‘hip hop poet devoted to uplifting the community and a teacher to those less privileged’ We’ve also heard you’re a very active person with-in your local community. As an artist, do you feel a sense of responsibility to those who are less privileged?
Well I am a teacher at a community school which educates mostly disadvantaged youth, and I have been volunteering in St. Kilda for 10 years as a boxing coach and gym instructor so I feel a great sense of responsibility to the people in my community to accurately represent the stories and day-to-day goings on. My music is very personal but it is not exclusively about me. It’s about the time, place and people who make this life what it is. The last 2 tracks which are about my daughter (‘Daddies Girl’) and my late Grandma (‘Like the Clouds’), who I dedicate this album to, represent that celebration of life.

We think the albums excellent, great choice of beats and killer rhymes. Any word on the album launch or tour?
Thanks. Album launch will be in Melbourne at Revolver Upstairs on July 30th. We’re planning a tour after that but want the album to get out there before making any solid arrangements.

Obese Records & GDH Events Present:

25 11 2009

Obese Records and GDH Events are proud to present a huge night of aussie hip hop for those in and around Geelong. The gig will be happening December 12, 2009.

Since joining forces in 2001, Muph & Plutonic have propelled themselves into the heart of Australian Hip-Hop and the wider music scene. The evolution of their cumulative talents has shone through both their unique live show and their stand-out albums, Hunger Pains (2004), Silence The Sirens (2006) and now their third and most mature album to date, And Then Tomorrow Came. Regarded among this country’s finest Hip Hop acts, the ongoing partnership between Muph and renowned producer Plutonic Lab has proven to be even richer than the sum of its parts.

Bias B comes back to Geelong to launch his latest release Aerosol Era. Bias B involvement with Australian hip hop dates back to the late 80s and he continues to be an integral part of the national scene. This intense involvement has allowed Bias B to have an incredible insight and ability to document the history of the genre over a career that includes 3 solo full length releases and numerous collaborative projects.

After a sold out show with Phrase last time in Geelong, Illy returns to show Geelong his high energy flavor once again. Influenced by a kaleidoscope of artists from Nas to Bob Marley, Biggie to Bob Dylan, the 23-year old MC boasts a spitfire flow, both youthful and intelligent but ripe with attitude; complimenting his world-traversing musical vision. A vision he calls a privilege, the act of creating art meaningful to complete strangers.
