Bliss N Eso – House Of Dreams

5 03 2013

Live Nation and Niche Productions are proud to present, in association with American Hip-Hop legend Nas, the inaugural 2013 Australian Movement Festival. Filling the void of credible Hip-Hop events in Australia, the Movement Festival places Grammy award winning Hip Hop heavyweights, with mixtape kings and local heros in what’s destined to takeover as THE Hip Hop event each and every year in Australia.

bliss n eso house of dreams
Setting a new standard, Movement looks to the future of Hip Hop and Rap whilst still catering to a solid Hip-Hop foundation, thanks to the festival’s co-headliner and co-curator Nas. With more than 20 years in the business and often called the greatest rapper alive, Nas is an artist who needs little or no introduction.

Arguably Australia’s biggest Hip Hop group, Bliss N Eso wasted no time graduating from triple j airplay to racking up the spins on commercial networks. In 2006, Bliss N Eso’s second album, Day Of The Dog, was released and became the first Australian hip-hop release to debut in ARIA’s top 50. It also earned Bliss N Eso an ARIA nomination for Best Urban Release in 2006 with sales exceeding all benchmarks for a local hip-hop release. Bliss N Eso are crusaders in the fight against poverty, in 2007 the boys went on a Make Poverty History Zero Seven road trip tour and ventured on a journey with MTV and the Oaktree Foundation to some of the poorest regions in South Africa. Their third LP Flying Colours, broke records for an Australian hip-hop act. With a top 10 ARIA debut, the album became the highest selling local hip-hop album of the year and with their third nomination in as many years, Bliss N Eso took out the ARIA Award for 2008’s Best Urban Release.

In 2010 Bliss n Eso released their 4th Album Running On Air to critical acclaim, the album debuted at #1 on the ARIA charts and achieved gold sales within its first week. Known for their electrifying live shows Bliss N Eso currently hold the record for the biggest local hip-hop tour of all time from their 2011Australian tour, the Sydney trio are set to tear the roof off all Movement venues.

Joining Nas and Bliss N Eso is debatably one of the most heard voices in Rap in 2012: 2 Chainz. Another Def Jam signee, Chainz appeared on such massive tracks as Mercy (with Kanye West for Cruel Summer), Beez In The Trap (Nicki Minaj) and his own club hits Birthday Song and I Luv Dem Strippers. 2 Chainz has become a dominant force and somewhat the unofficial voice of Trap music.

Radio faves Chiddy Bang return to Australia after tearing up the Parklife circuit 2012. Flanked by certified radio and chart bangers like the ARIA chart top 10 and MGMT sampling Opposite Of Adults, Mind Your Manners or Ray Charles, Chiddy Bang bring an overwhelming party vibe to Movement’s lineup.

Also on the bill are mixtape King and Queen Joey Bada$$ and Angel Haze, who are poised to set the world on fire with their new albums in 2013. Bada$$ is known for his throwback style, leaning more on beats akin to A Tribe Called Quest than many of his contemporaries but still with a modern twist.

Rounding out the lineup are Spit Syndicate (Melb, Bris and Perth) and Thundamentals (Sydney only), two well respected local groups who epitmoise the direction in which Hip Hop is headed in Australia. Opening the day will be a triple j Unearthed Winner judged in each city by host of triple j Hip Hop Show host Hau Latukefu and the team at triple j, plus seamlessly segueing the live sets will be a host of each city’s best DJs. Taking the Hip Hop scene to exciting new heights Movement hits Australia late April, and promises to give audiences a quality event with this all star line-up of both local and international talent. Do not miss out on the Hip Hop event of 2013!

Newcastle hip hop band Blades welcome the release of their new single, Future. Combining an electric mix of drum and bass, dub-step and electro beats against a hip hop canvas, the trio comprising of Kid Lyrical, Wizadry & Likewyse partner the track with anthem-inspiring rhymes to create the perfect party jam.

Featuring the vocals of Carmen Smith, who appeared on the popular TV show The Voice, the song is the first to be added to the Hot 30 by a Newcastle band this year. With three independently produced and released albums and a 2008 tour of Europe under their belts, Blades have transformed themselves from a whisper about the break dancing brothers, to a force within the local hip hop scene.

Vinyl Villains – Back In Action (Remix)

19 12 2011

Vinyl Villains consist of Train Of Thought members Hacksaw & Debate. Hacksaw has been honing his skills on the decks since the mid 90′s and Debate started producing beats around the same time. Both attended Blackwood High and shared a passion for Hip Hop which has never waned.

In Early 2000 Debate approached Hacksaw to join his group then called Exhilation the group would eventually consist of 5 members and become known as Train Of Thought. In The Mid 2000′s members of Train Of Thought decided to pursue different interests in life but Hacksaw & Debate kept doing their thing and featured on many guest spots with their cuts and/or production.

During this period Debate started the production company Train Of Thought Productions which would provide support to artists who roll under the Train Of Thought banner. With the return of LevelHeaded to the scene in 2009 Hacksaw & Debate provided Cuts & Production for the whole of LevelHeaded’s album title Spice Of Life.

At this time Hacksaw & Debate decided to form Vinyl Villains. The concept behind the Vinyl Villains is Debate will provide all the production and Hacksaw will provide all the Cuts and they will invite artists from around Australia to spit/MC over the tracks they create and occasionally Debate will grace the Mic.

The Vinyl Villains first LP was due for release in early 2011 but due to their commitments providing production and cuts for other groups the Vinyl Villains LP was put on the back burner until now! The Villains will be dropping a Mixtape in January 2012 closely followed by their Debut full Length LP. The Mixtape and LP feature’s a massive guest list of artists from all over Australia. The Villains make real hip hop music and have been making real hip hop for 15 years plus.

Artists the Villains have been involved with for either production and/or cuts include: Hilltop Hoods, Funkoars, After Hours, Pagan Elypsis, Mase N Mattic, Reason, Dialectrix, Bias B, Purpose, Prime, Iron Braydz (UK), AJ Mayhew (UK) and many more.

Full Tote Odds – Back In Action (Official Vinyl Villains Remix)

Mantra – Voodoo Music Official Video

19 12 2011

In contrast to the lyrical introspection prominent in revered first single Got Me Wrong (featuring Parvyn Kaur Singh) (Triple J’s most requested song in the week following its release), Voodoo Music is essentially a celebration of Mantra’s aptitude for wordplay and metaphor.

Crediting the production genius of young Melbourne wiz-kid Abstrakt with cuts from DJ Wasabi, Voodoo Music is characterized by its rupturing bass and pan flute-esk synths bringing Mantra’s audaciously swaggering flow to new heights.

One of the albums most bangin’ beats for sure. Produced by young buck Abztrakt, this track is all about the flow. I got really funky and loose with my rhyme patterns, trying to put as much movement in my vocal rhythms as possible. Theme-wise, the track is full of wordplay, much of it based around voodoo and black magic.’ Mantra

Upcoming Mantra Shows For 2011:
-Blah Blah Blah Music Festival, Brisbane, December 28th - Tickets
-Pyramid Rock Festival, Philip Island, December 31st - Tickets

Directed by: El Davros for Cartel Film Production
Produced by: Katherine Cooke
Post Production by: ALT.VFX

Stateovmind – Something For Nothing EP

18 12 2011

Short, crisp and delicious are three words that can describe the Debut EP from Canberra’s own Stateovmind. This five track offering serves the listener up a mouth watering selection of clever, poetic and potent wordplay. With classic and fresh home-style flavours which range from the traditional to the more modern and personal.

All the while simmering amongst a sound-scape of handpicked drum soaked bass bubbling beats. Delivered by some of Australia’s premier beatsmiths including M-Phazes. Coming from the isolated, forgotten and often criticised Canberra has given Stateovmind the time and space to develop a unique style of home-grown hip hop. Despite being recorded in his bedroom the Something for Nothing EP has a professional and well rounded sound.

Most recently this was recognised on the launch day of Triple J Unearthed Radio, when Stateovmind was selected from thousands of unearthed artists to be one of the first played on the new digital radio station. Best of all the Something For Nothing EP is available for free, both on CD and digitally.
