Mention Rainman amongst the initiated and the respect attributed to his name is palatable. Recognised nationally as one of Queensland’s finest, Rainman’s list of collaborations, support slots and guest appearances reads like a who’s who of local hip hop.
Rainman is poised to drop his second album Bigger Pictures, in stores Friday 4 May through Obese Distribution. The album sees Sammsonite return for the lion’s share of the production but also features some of Australia’s finest beat – smiths including the APRA and AIR Award winning, ARIA nominated Count Bounce, DJ Bonez, Mangohig (Sietta), Chasm, Cam Bluff and Calski. Guest MCs on the record include Muph, Tommy Illfigga, Yuin Huzami and many more, while Laneous (Laneous & The Family Yah) and Kel on Earth (Bankrupt Billionaires) lend soulful vocals across the album.
The first official single off Bigger Pictures is Darlin’. Featuring and produced by Calski, the track was available as a free download at the end of last year limited to one hundred fans only but will now be available on iTunes from Fri 23 March.
Rainman deliberately wanted Darlin’ to set the scene for the new album. In his own words: “Darlin’ is a love song. An ode to lady hip hop, a soul drenched Australian take on Common’s ‘I Used to Love H.E.R’ classic – with a twist. The initial demo of the beat from_Calski inspired me to flip the hip hop-as-lover idea from Common and put a fresh take on it. I didn’t want to just leave it at that though. I’ve been pretty interested in how passionate we all are about hip hop, those of us that grew up with it as kids, and how even for those of us as white kids from Australia, from all that distance away from hip hop’s origins, literally_and culturally, can still feel this whole-hearted connection and even a sense of ownership_of this music. I wanted to try get into the character of what hip hop – the lady – might have to say back to those of us that call her out. I figured she had to be a bit pissed off and wouldn’t be afraid to say it”.
It’s this lyric writing approach – taking songs to that next level of depth – that sets Rainman apart and sees him attract high praise from peers and fans alike. He paints bigger pictures. To launch Darlin’, Rainman will be touring nationally with Calski supporting Joelistics and Diafrix on the Running To Shine National Tour.
Introview marks the beginning of Drakezilla’s new album, Redhead Redemption, which will be released online for free in the coming weeks with limited hard copies to follow. It’s mostly comprised of a collection of tracks made over the past two years which were either lost due to hard drive failure or made for no other reason than to make a jam.
This little number is 16 tracks deep with production from Drakezilla himself, Trials, Mac Lethal, Mdusu and Sammsonite along with features from The Tongue, Syntax, Mdusu, Smiles Again and Johnny Utah.
It will be available for free download in the coming weeks; Tell him he sent you, he’ll give you a discount.

In celebration of this huge event, Sammsonite has thrown us the recipe for one of his favorite dishes Stuffed Capsicum. You can check that out below. Be sure you pick up your copies of The Optimen – The Out Of Money Experience and also Choose Mics – Beggars Can’t Be Choosers. Both out now!
Stuffed capsicum (dolmeh-ye-felfel) Ingredients:
10 or 12 large capsicums
50g fresh parsley
50g fresh chives
50g fresh mint
50g fresh tarragon
50g fresh dill tips
1 onion (medium)
300g minced lamb
¾ cup oil
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tsp salt or to taste
1 tsp pepper
1 cup yellow split peas
1 cup rice
Note: If you have to use dried herbs instead, replace every 100g of fresh herbs with 5g of dried herbs.
Preparation:
Cut the top off the capsicums in a circle to make a lid. Scrape out the seeds and pith very carefully. Avoid making any cuts or holes in the body of the capsicum. Put the lids back on each capsicum and leave aside.
If you are using fresh herbs, clean and wash the herbs. Drain and put in a tea towel for further draining. Chop the herbs finely and stir-fry very lightly in ¼ cup of oil (for a minute or two).
Chop the onions into small pieces and fry in ¼ cup of oil. Add the minced meat and stir-fry. When the water from the meat is evaporated, add 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, which has been dissolved in ¼ cup of water. Add ½ teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of pepper, cook for 2 minutes and put aside.
Wash the yellow split peas, add 1½ cups of warm water, about ½ teaspoon of salt and cook for about 15 to 20 minutes (do not allow it to go too soft).
Wash the rice and cook with 1½ cups of water and about ½ teaspoon of salt over low heat for about 10 minutes until there is no water left.
Mix the cooked meat, chopped herbs, cooked rice and split peas. Test for salt and, if necessary, add extra. Fill the capsicums one by one, and put their own lids back on. Put the capsicums tightly next to each other in a pot.
Pour the remaining ¼ cup of oil and 1½ cups of water all over the capsicums. Cook on medium heat for 5 to 6 minutes, then on low for an extra 20 minutes.
Place the capsicums carefully in a serving dish and serve.
