Hermitude – Parallel Paradise EP

13 06 2012

Hermitudes remix accompaniment to their critically adored album HyperParadise is out now. It features some electrifying remixes from some of Australia’s best and most hyped producers including M-Phazes, Flume, Ta-Ku and Sampology.

Flume leads the charge with a kaleidoscopic reinvention of HyperParadise, filled with epic buildups, swung beat work and classy synths – showing why he’s making waves on the international beats scene. Australia’s hip hop production powerhouse, M-Phazes takes a break from his trademark boom-bap, delivering an addictive disco-fuelled take of Speak of The Devil. The ever prolific Ta-Ku takes HyperParadise into dancefloor destruction mode, proving why he’s one of our country’s most promising young beat makers.

Hermitude are charging forward with an infectious momentum that has seen their HyperParadise record re-enter the ARIA Charts at #48 (Digital # 26). It’s seen them smash the national Groovin the Moo tour and join 360 on his record-breaking The Flying Tour. Speak of The Devil made its UK radio debut as part of Zane Lowe’s ‘Next Hype’ segment on BBC Radio1 just last week. The single drops in the UK late July with the duo heading over for a headline London show on July 2.

Hermitude – HyperParadise

25 01 2012

The country’s premier beats duo soar to new heights on their fourth album HyperParadise. It follow the astonishing success of lead single Speak Of The Devil. HyperParadise is Hermitude hitting the bullseye of their artistic vision, a beautifully inventive record of future beats and electronica.

It’s not just their meticulousness in production and musicianship, it’s the passion and love they have for instrumental music that makes them so special. The songs are bubbling with personality: choruses leap out of songs demanding an emotional response, differing for each listener. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine the more notably adventurous R&B/soul vocalists wishing they could get their hands on the likes of All of You and HyperParadise.

Speak of the Devil has been one of the standout dancefloor tunes of 2011; thrashed by Australian radio; and winner of triple j’s 2011 J Award for Australian Music Video of the Year. It was also #9 in Rage’s Top 50 videos of 2011 and nominated for FBi’s SMAC Awards (Single and Video). Should we mention the international news yet? No. Save that one.

Hermitude have nurtured an affectionate and fiercely loyal audience over the years, commanding respect from the best in the beats business (DJ Krush, Glitch Mob).

They’re in a perfect position to take it up a few notches with the release of HyperParadise.

Hermitude – Speak Of The Devil: Receives J-Award Video Nomination

22 11 2011

Hermitude have established their reputation for brilliant studio productions with an engaging and innovative live show – incorporating a confident, almost effortless musicianship with a deft grasp of technology. Playing with underground hip hop artists and electronic acts from all over the world.

In 2007 they released the Rare Sightings EP before embarking on their third album, Threads in 2008. Hermitude’s sound progressed into more electronic territory, embracing instrumental hip hop’s electronic relative ‘future beats’. Artists such as Glitch Mob and DJ Krush started dropping Hermitude songs in live sets.

The first single on their fourth record dropped in early 2011 – the slamming Get In My Life. They followed this in September 2011 with the Summery monster Speak Of The Devil. Hermitude’s fourth album will be released in Feb 2012. Their new single Speak Of The Devil is an infectious dancefloor jam of bouncing synth lines and hip hop beats. Hermitude’s label Elefant Traks pitch it as: “If Teenwolf and Patience from The Grates had a baby who grew up to be the world’s greatest air-keytarist, the song they’d perform to would be “Speak of the Devil”.”

The video Directed by Emma Tomelty for Cooper St Films, borrows from C&C Music Factory’s most enduring sentiment: Everybody Dance Now and was recently nominated for a 2011 J-Award. You can check out Triple J’s Q&A with Hermitude right here.

Hermitude – Speak of the Devil Tour

12 09 2011

Hermitude are set to turn heads with their most playfully infectious song to date, Speak Of The Devil. With its contorting synth lines, fun chorus and slamming drums, it perfectly captures the energy and joy of the band. Featuring the voice of Sydney artist Chaos Emerald in Speak Of The Devil, Hermitude have developed a dedicated following for their pumping live shows and monstrously positive vibes. Catch them when they launch Speak Of The Devil in November – December.

Hermitude formed in 2001 when Blue Mountains duo Luke Dubs (Luke Dubber) and Elgusto (Angus Stuart) paired up with a shared love of beats and turntablism. The offspring of professional musicians, they’d performed together in jazz and funk bands since their early teens. Hermitude’s first EP was the vinyl-only Imaginary Friends out through Elefant Traks. They followed this up with their debut album in 2003 – the critically adored Alleys to Valleys. It established Hermitude’s reputation for impeccable production – esteemed radio figure Tim Ritchie called it “One of the best hip hop/breaks releases I’ve ever heard”.

Their second album Tales of the Drift followed in 2005 after numerous tours and support slots. Their Cuban-influenced rhythms (Elgusto undertook percussion studies in Cuba as a teen) had blended elegantly with their formal jazz and classical background breathing new life into their instrumental hip hop sound. The first single Fallen Giants took triple j by storm and sat on high rotation for months.  By now Hermitude had established their reputation for brilliant studio productions with an engaging and innovative live show – incorporating a confident, almost effortless musicianship with a deft grasp of technology. Over the next few years they toured Asia, Europe and the USA playing with underground hip hop artists and electronic acts (Krush, Kentaro, Aceyalone, Dizzee Rascal).
