Def Wish Cast – ‘Day Tripper’ Music Video

10 12 2012

Day Tripper is a stop motion music video created by budding filmmaker and human beatboxer, Luke Cavalan (aka LC Beats), for the latest single off Def Wish Cast’s recent album Evolution Machine. The hard hitting track features production from esteemed Australian beat maker, Dizz1, and vocals from the UK’s Spikey Tee.

Def Wish Cast Day Tripper

The video features claymation caricatures of pioneering Sydney Hip Hop group, Def Wish Cast, running wildly through the city streets, promoting their upcoming performance, eventually finishing things off by delivering a high energy live show. Expect to see an incredibly entertaining, fast paced treat for the eyes and ears! The Day Tripper music video, which recently walked away with the “Animal Logic Encouragement Award” at the annual COFA / UNSW film screening, is the third stop motion animation video created by Luke Cavalan.

His first two features, Mayhem in May Lane and Kaos in King Street, were well received by the industry, but it is this latest project which pushes the boundaries of his talents even further. After nearly 3 years in the making, having filmed 1 hour of footage for each second of film, the time has finally come to showcase this work of art.

Sola Rosa – Low and Behold, High and Beyond

1 09 2012

Sola Rosa are set to release their new album, Low and Behold, High and Beyond before embarking on their first tour of Australia since 2010. Written over New Zealand’s past two summers, founder-producer Andrew Spraggon has drawn together a host of familiar names and new faces, and produced an album that’s more beat-driven, but as always, tinged with his trademark soul and funk.

Watch and listen as it comes to life on stage alongside previous hits from his distinguished career. Spikey Tee, Ben White, and Matt Short have joined Spraggon to form the musical core of the group and are joined on stage by Cherie Mathieson and L.A. Mitchell this September. Sola Rosa will also tour the album throughout Europe and the US later this year, where they have recently returned from after a successful jaunt, collecting accolades from such media sweethearts like NPR’s ‘The World’ program.

For fans, the new album has been a long time coming, for the uninitiated, it could well prove revelation. With six albums under his belt, a raft of awards and well over a decade of producing genre-splitting music, Andrew Spraggon’s work as Sola Rosa has cemented him as one of the world’s most exciting and versatile producers. From a humble, self-released one man project, Sola Rosa has grown to a live collective of international repute. Successfully melding hip hop, reggae, jazz, latin, soul and funk, the group have never sat comfortably in one box, but with Spraggon’s guidance, that restlessness has been channelled into six succinct albums.

Despite a rapturous reception for all of those, it was Spraggon’s last, Get It Together, which really catapulted the Rosa sound into the consciousness of the wider world. Surrounding himself with an uber-talented cast of musicians, including the likes of Serocee, Bajka, and Julien Dyne, Spraggon produced an album that proved his most successful yet. In New Zealand, the album reached the number one spot on iTunes and the Independent NZ Music Album Chart (where it stayed for four months). It reached number 15 on the NZ Album Chart, and eventually went on to achieve Gold status. Join Sola Rosa as they play from coast to coast (including a stop at Big Sound 2012) and don’t miss them as they debut their all new live material as well as playing all of the catalogue favourites.
