Dutch – Hank Moody feat. Puks

3 05 2013

Emerging from Sydney’s underground hip hop scene, Dutch has been involved in the hip hop world for a number of years now. Growing a musical partnership with respected producers Ta-Ku and Cam Bluff , Dutch is fast becoming a highly regarded artist with unquestionable potential.

dutch hank moody

Dutch is almost set to release his first and highly anticipated album Arcadia in early 2013…

What is most exciting about Arcadia, is the textured blend of Dutch’s first picturesque mixtape “The Point Of No Return” released in 2011, and the daring and collaborative sounds newly developed over the two years since. The album features a stack of highly talented producers such as Cam Bluff (360, spit Syndicate), Ta-Ku (Illy, Drapht), Cam Gilmour (drummer for Illy) and also J-Squared (Pegz) and a plethora of incredible rappers, soon to be announced, but includes Hue Blanes, Puks, and more.

Dutch has been working hard to deliver an energetic, thought provoking and dynamic album. With tracks like the brand new Hank Moody, an ultimate party song with a bit of a twist which is produced by Ta-Ku, to the track My Way, tackling very personal yet entirely relatable issues of 20 something Australians everywhere. Arcadia is definitely an album that has both extremes – positivity and despair – and all the other shit in between. More information to come soon.

The album spawned rave reviews, receiving both ARIA and AIR Award nominations, and played host to the ARIA Gold selling single It Can Wait.

Drapht

Illy’s rigorous touring schedule has seen him travel to every corner of the country over the past 3 years developing a loyal fanbase along the way. This dedication to his fans has seen his songs voted into the revered triple j Hottest 100 for the last four years and running.

After releasing his passion project Bring It Back late last year (featuring radio favourites Heard It All and Where Ya Been) Illy bunkered down in the studio hard at work on the follow-up to The Chase, due for release in late 2013. With his quality songwriting and high-energy, no-frills-spared live show, Illy will be cementing his status as one of our country’s most popular hip-hop acts under the Big Top.

Joining the line-up will be electrifying group, The Herd, who formed in 2001, when core members of record label Elefant Traks decided to collaborate. The Herd have consistently experienced great success, with five albums bringing 2 ARIA Nominations, 2 AIR Awards, a J Award and numerous triple j hits and entries into the Hottest 100. On top of this, the group have enjoyed high profile festival slots on Big Day Out Tour, Splendour In The Grass and Homebake, as well as sold out shows across the country. The Herd’s reputation as must see live show has grown since the beginning and with their appearances being rare, this is a opportunity see why The Herd are a true career artist .

Out of Sydney’s Inner West, Australia’s hip hop duo Spit Syndicate will be bringing their infamous charm to the stage on the back of their third successful album, Sunday Gentlemen. With multiple songs being added to triple j rotation, numerous hit singles and videos and successful national tours behind them, Nick Lupi and Jimmy Nice are ready to connect with fans in a whole new way. Baring all through their thoughtful, personal and sometimes confronting songs, all mixed in with their now- renowned flair, the boys are at the top of their game and ready to prove it.

After spending the last year or so fine tuning his third LP, The Cold Light Of Day, with the help of long time collaborator Plutonic Lab, wordsmith Dialectrix is raring to get back to the live music circuit and show you exactly what he’s been working so hard on. Bringing the experience of multiple tours, countless collaborations and three exciting LP’s, Dialectrix’s music is delivered with a fierceness that communicates his messages perfectly. With his trademark, no-hold-barred attitude and his familiar and technical flow, his shows are delivered with ferocity that you won’t be able to resist.

With their clever combination of hip-hop, pop& a touch of 60’s influenced beats, Full Tote Odds welcomes you to their incredible musical world. Garnering their respective talents through years of experience, Levelheaded, Slats, Eslev, Dj Hacksaw and Ross Read are ready to revolutionize local hip hop. Already attracting attention courtesty of their radio hit Southern Winds, these five Adelaide Hills boys will have you dancing as if your life depended on it.

Capturing the attention of triple j, single So Good was the 19th most played track on triple j in 2012, as well as Allday being named the feature artist on triple j Unearthed. Bringing good vibes to festivals such as Big Day Out, St Kilda Festival, Pushover, O Week UTS and St Kilda Youth Festival, and with his headlining shows selling out, his exciting live shows and fresh sound have quickly been making a name for Allday nationwide. Don’t miss his first performance at Come Together!

Australian Hip Hop’s best kept secret, Sydney duo Jackie Onassis, will also be joining the stellar line up of Come Together this year, off the back of successful debut EP: Holiday. With national and local radio stations already picking up singles I Got You and Crystal Balling. the future looks bright for the duo. Coupled with their explosive live shows, which saw them land support spots for both Illy and Spit Sydnicate, Jack Onassis will be proving why the hype is so deserved at their first appearance at Come Together.

Ten years ago, this man paved the way, being a part of the only hip-hop act on the first Come Together. Now, to help us celebrate the 10th anniversary, we’ve invited former Butterfingers frontman, Evil Eddie, to help us mark this occasion. With his debut album, Welcome To Flavour Country, triple j Hottest 100 #86 single, Queensland, and national tours up his sleeve, Eddie’s name is synonymous with the DIY ethic, blending classic beats, a pop edge and all out fun in both his music and his live shows. Reclaiming the Come Together stage after so many years apart, Evil Eddie will be bringing along his years of experience and credibility to back him up and make sure that this reunion is something to remember.

spit syndicate

From the same school that brought you Horrorshow, Spit Syndicate, Jackie Onassis & Abe Saffron, come Crochet Crooks, opening up the Come Together stage. Their ever evolving brand of rap pushes the genre barriers, blending heavy 808s, catchy guitar riffs and evocative lyrics. The energetic live show they’ll be bringing to Come Together saw duo Jax and Sayso sell out iconic Sydney venue The Annandale Hotel after playing just six gigs, as well as scoring support slots for 360, Pez & Spit Syndicate amongst others.

artworks-000043382442-387ap1-t500x500

Originating from two of the most musically isolated parts of Australia, Perth Coin and Tasmanian DJ/producer Akouo have been quietly building a cache of sounds that blend neo-soul, backpack rap and eclectic rhythms. The duo draw inspiration from a range of influences, from hip hop producers such as J Dilla, Pete Rock, Hitek, Exile and 20Syl to neo-soul figures like Amp Fiddler, Erykah Badu and Common.

As a member of The Stoops, Coin collaborated with producer J Squared (Illy / Beathedz / Spit Syndicate) on their album Stoop Squared. It was soon followed up his album ‘Home‘, a collaboration with future beats producer Ta-ku. Coin’s work on The Stoops infectious summer anthem ‘Free‘ featuring 2010 Wam Song of the Year winner Georgi Kay was met with critical acclaim, earning the Stoops a strong run of festival shows and international support slots including Pete Rock, Kurtis Blow and Loop Troop throughout 2011.

Akouo builds musical soundscapes that encompass soulful melodies, unique beats and jazzy bass lines. His debut album Outwit the Muscle featured as triple j Hip Hop Show ‘Album of the Week‘ and it’s single Lazy Days collected strong rotation on JJJ radio. His works include collaboration with artists such as Class A, Phatchance and Dunn D. In 2010, Akouo released a collaborative EP with US MC Javs (DJ Bonez/Jase). TZU – Beautiful (Ta-ku Remix)

5 12 2012

After the release of TZU’s third studio album, Computer Love, in the Winter of 2008, Joelistics, Countbounce, Paso Bionic and Yeroc decided it was time to take a break. It was time to live, time to do the things they couldn’t whilst touring a critically acclaimed, j award nominated album.

428971_434656903245873_390086721_n

Things like smelling the roses, making babies and travelling the world. Now, a few years on, the clouds have parted, the flame has reignited and TZU have once again suited up, ready to release their fourth studio LP, Millions of Moments.

Millions of Moments sees TZU delving further into the electronic direction they explored on Computer Love. As colourful collection of original and charismatic tunes, these ‘millions of moments’ are set in Australia at vastly differing times.

The narrative follows the adventures of Persephone. Our mysterious protagonist trials a drug called Chronos, which sends her hurtling through time (Doctor Who style) to inhabit the consciousness of an array of alluring folk.

The passing of time sees TZU in superb form. There is a depth to this eclectic LP that burrows deeper and resonates more intensely than ever before. The band is more confident, more assured, more poised. Joelistics’ vocals buck and sway, blossoming into song, his story-telling bursting with social conscience and far reaching wonder.

Countbounce’s multi-layered production is flawless, cinematic and rich. Upbeat numbers like flagship single Beginning of the End and the elastic Nowhere Home are complemented by evocative scores Heart of Darkness and Running from Zardoz.

New single Beautifuland Criminals and Murderers heave with turbulent lyrics and dark electronic pulses, alongside those more poignant, as in The Window. And Sydney songstress Holly Throsby adds a haunting fragility to the glacial, Breakthrough. Here we have a stunning remix from beatsmith Ta-Ku, flipping TZU’s latest single Beautiful

Skryptcha – Mindful (Out Now)

9 08 2012

Skryptcha has a knack for making the philosophical non-confrontational. His second masterpiece Mindful is not unlike it’s creator; preceptive, sharp and ahead of its time. After the notoriety surrounding previous LP Numb3rs, and break out EP Left to Write, the slick young wordsmith has found time to knock out a Journalism degree, and travel substantially. Crafted during the most pivotal years of his life, Mindful takes a considered look at Skryptcha’s unique journey thus far.

Mindful’s production was expertly handled by illustrious US producer Illmind, a long-time favourite beat-maker of Skryptcha’s. Throughout the album, a dynamic emcee-producer synchronicity is evident, Illmind setting a scene and Skryptcha telling the story seamlessly. The most comprehensive period of the duo’s artistic interaction took place during Skryptcha’s visit to Illmind’s studio in Brooklyn. An otherwise digital collaboration, the distance between the two proved irrelevant in creating the album the two had envisaged. Using analogue equipment and processes, Illmind’s rich bass lines and homage to old school soul set the tone throughout Mindful.

Lead single, Dance sets the head nodding with its laid-back soulful guitar loops teamed with loose, punchy beats. Skryptcha maneuvers rhythmic rhymes skillfully around the beat, whilst observing music’s power to simplify a person’s circumstance. The hilarious film clip for Dance, featuring Steven O’Donnell (‘Bajo’ from the ABC show Good Game) has just been released. We recommend you check that one out above. Skyryptcha – Mindful is out now through Obese Records.

1 – Graduation feat. Rachael Berry
2 – Take Off feat. Daniel Mifsud

Skryptcha – Mindful

11 07 2012

“I’ve listened to Illmind’s beats for years and have always been in love with his sound. He’s on the exact tip I was looking for, so managing to link up with him on this entire project was a blessing.” – Skryptcha

Mindful stars a carefully selected bunch of guest artists including Obese Records label-mates Illy and Spit Syndicate, and the dulcet tones of vocalists Sam Ackerman, Joyride, Rachael Berry, and Daniel Mifsud. Skryptcha worked closely with his guest artists to develop hooks and song structure, wanting to emphasise each of their individual styles for their respective tracks.

In opening number Graduation a braggadocio track with premise; Skryptcha looks back on just how far he’s come since his rap career began. The proclamation of bold organ loops fused with sharp boom bap beats is complimented by the sultry vocals of Rachael Berry on the hook. Lead single Dance sets the head nodding with its laid-back soulful guitar loops teamed with loose, punchy beats. Skryptcha maneuvers rhythmic rhymes skillfully around the beat, whilst observing music’s power to simplify a person’s circumstance.

In My Way Up, Illy and Skryptcha compare notes on their exceeded expectations since putting out their first releases. With the soulful vocals of Joyride on the hook, bright piano and occasional electronic nuances colour the track. Already a musical hybrid release due to the international nature of its collaborators, Mindful has the potential to reach many with its positive outlook and widely relatable themes.

“I really hope people connect with this album. I write a lot of my music out of my own personal experiences but I always try and bring the listener into that. I hope it informs, inspires & empowers.” – Skryptcha
