This is a live radio session I did at FBi Radio on ‘The Drop’ with ‘Joyride’ in August. The radio session is very much on the style of UK radio sessions where I’be thrown in a whole bunch of material, old and new over some new beats that in really feeling. The first beat is ‘Buggn’ from the TNGHT EP by Hudson Mohawke and Lunar C, the second beat is Lighter by Champion. I really like the buzz of doing raps on live radio, I really enjoy challenging myself technically and seeing how polished I can make the overall performance“. – Rapaport

Most of these verses are taken from the Patterns mixtape which is available for free download from here.

Rapaport 100 Bars Promo Video

21 06 2012

Big Village Records label boss Rapaport has dropped a banging new vid of 100 bars of grimey badness over the biggest grime beat of 2011, Faze Miyake’s Take Off. The video is the first piece of media to promote the forthcoming solo Rapaport mixtape Patterns, which will be out in the month of July.

The release is a bossy step into the grime and Bass music sound with all the beats sitting on the 140 bpm mark. Rapaport has had a curiously diverse musical output since he released his debut solo album Laughing On The Inside independently in 2009.

From laid back hip hop group Loose Change with Ellesquire and producer extraordinaire P Major, to being guitarist and vocalist in left field live band The Phonies, and creator and director of Hip Hop pictionary game show Sketch the RhymeRapaportPatterns Mixtape dropping July 2012.

Sketch The Rhyme

23 09 2009

sketch the rhyme allaussie hip hop

As a part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival, running from September 23, till October 11 hip hop will meet visual art in a theatrical improvised performance. This is a collaboration of artists, rappers and musicians where the audience is as much a part of the show as the performers. Artists sketch on paper which is filmed and projected live. Rappers freestyle about what the artists are drawing and audiences are invited to participate as the improvisation is structured into games. Games are inspired by Mr Squiggle, Pictionary and live animation. The live musical accompaniment is courtesy of Sydney hip hop gents The Phonies.

You can buy tickets here.

Some info on Rapaport; Joel Rapaport is a self professed ‘neurotic’, 25y.o MC from Inner-West Sydney. We’re lucky that these various neuroses’ have been successfully harnessed and channelled into the eclectic wordplay and well-considered production in his first full length LP, Laughing On The Inside

His experiences as a prize-winning battler (2006 Scribble Jam NSW winner, and runner up in 2006 Scribble Jam Australian Final) made all the more interesting by his naturally bravado-free approach in such heated surroundings. You can catch more on Rapaport here.
