Daily Meds – Happy Daze Tour

22 06 2012

Since the release of their debut album Happy Daze in April 2012, Daily Meds have gained a reputation as the up and coming hip-hop act to watch in Australia. Along with some rave reviews Happy Daze was awarded Fbi radio’s sunsets album of the week and their second single Insane is currently on triple j high rotation. This support was then backed by a capacity crowd at the Oxford Art Factory for their Sydney album launch in May.

Subsequent to this overwhelming support, Daily Meds are embarking on their first east coast tour, showcasing their high energy, intense live show alongside some of Australia’s finest hip hop artists. The Happy Daze tour is set to show the rest of the country why Daily Meds have earned so much hype.

Their stage presence and energy are matched by few, while the unrelenting bass driven beats and diverse lyrical content will keep you engaged till the nights end. Make sure you get down to your local show and go party with them.

Illy – Heard It All Review

22 06 2012

Following the success of his sophomore LP The Chase, fans have already begun counting down the days towards the next Illy album. With the drop of Illy’s newest single Heard It All, we all know that it can’t be far off. Heard It All, having been released a fortnight ago, is already in popular demand amongst staunch Illy fans and new comers alike.

Illy uses Heard It All as an opportunity to investigate his inner convictions, while questioning the whole notion of creative originality. The track excels with Illy’s personable delivery and strength of conviction. Illy seems to be a man who has his feet planted firmly on the ground, using the track to acknowledge his fans continued support. Heard It All is perfectly paced lyrically and production wise, where the artistry continues.

South Australia’s One Above (the man behind Hilltop Hoods‘ hit single I Love It feat. Sia) delivers another uplifting backdrop. His concoction of strings will sure to get all watering at the mouth. One Above’s cinematic stylings laid underneath sincere vocals and a hook that all will savor seals the deal for another Illy win. Illy – Heard It All is available digitally now through Obese Records. Grab it from the link below.

National Reconciliation Week 2012

4 06 2012

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated across Australia each year between 27 May and 3 June. The dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey—the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.

The week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort. May 27 marks the anniversary of Australia’s most successful referendum and a defining event in our nation’s history. The 1967 referendum saw over 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Commonwealth the power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and recognise them in the national census. 2012 marks the 45th anniversary of the ’67 referendum.

On 3 June, 1992, the High Court of Australia delivered its landmark Mabo decision which legally recognised that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a special relationship to the land—that existed prior to colonalisation and still exists today. This recognition paved the way for land rights called Native Title. This year is the 20th anniversary of the Mabo decision. Anyone can get involved in NRW.

With National Reconciliation Week in mind, The Herd dropped into triple j this week with a few friends, Radical Son, Sky’High and Nooky, to perform a very special Like A Version of Sam Cooke’s inspirational 1963 song A Change Is Gonna ComeThe Herd also performed one of their own tracks with Sum Of It All.

Illy – Heard It All

23 05 2012

Illy returns in 2012 with his surefire hit of a single Heard It All from upcoming third album Bring It Back. Following the success of career defining sophomore LP The Chase, fans have been anticipating the next Illy release with baited breath.

Heard It All embraces the irony of releasing something original, when everything seems to have been done before. Personable and full of conviction, in this track Illy investigates what he stands for, while aknowledging his fans for their ongoing support.

I was having a really tough time getting inspired to write recently. I wrote this (Heard It All) in response to the feeling that I wasn’t going to be able to deliver what was expected of me. It’s pretty much about accepting the fact that the latest, or newest stuff going on, is all a product of shit that came before, and that that’s not really a bad thing.” - ILLY

With production from One Above (the man behind Hilltop Hoods’ hit single I Love It feat. Sia), the beat is clean and uplifting. The use of strings throughout gives the song a cinematic feel lifting Illy’s sincere vocals on the catchy hook.  After only one week of high rotation on triple j, the track isalready in popular demand. Illy the hit machine has done it again! Illy – Heard It All is available digitally now through Obese Records. Grab it from the link below.

Mantra 2011 Wrap Up

23 01 2012

2011 was an unheralded year for Mantra, your favourite rapper’s favourite rapper – as he’s widely known. Mantra had been lighting a fire under the genre as we know it with the release of his much talked about second solo album Speaking Volumes in September.

After supporting Drapht on his Life of Riley National Tour and performing at the Come Together festival at Luna Park in Sydney earlier this year, Mantra was readying fans for what was to come…

The album’s first single Got Me Wrong feat. Parvyn Kaur Singh received high rotation on triple j, and was their most requested song during the week of its release. Shortly after the EP hit shelves, Mantra took his new set-list on the road for the Mantra Speaking Volumes Tour which featured special guests Tommy Illfigga, Ellesquire, In Good Company and more. Renowned for his involvement with hip-hop mentorship programs, Mantra (whilst simultaneously juggling his hip hop career) ran weekly workshops at juvenile justice centres in Melbourne with Dig Deep and Fresh Mob during the entirety of 2011.

Mantra also released the brand new music video for his second single from sophomore release Speaking Volumes  – Voodoo Music. Mantra also helped out on numerous other projects, including Drapht’s The Life Of Riley album, the In Good Company self titled LP and also Ishu’s – World In Progress & more.

Late last week, along with friend Gossling, 360 gave Triple j a rendition of his original tune Boys Like You, then hung around to bust out a mind-blowing cover of Regurgitator’s ‘! (The Song Formerly Known As)’, feat. his little mates Kyle the Koala and Kendrick the KangarooMatt also opened up about his recent decision to go sober, having coins thrown at his face, his elbow-shaped penis and the heartbreaking end to a previous relationship that he’s only now getting over.  He also mentioned something about being a ninja.
