Suicide Watch Project

In 2009 reported deaths by suicide were greater in number than the road toll. Do we hear about this in the media? Do you think that’s right? In 2009 suicide was the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-24 representing 20.5% of all deaths for that age group. 77.2% of these were male.

For older generations it’s been the norm to not talk about suicide, making it even harder for those struggling with suicidal thoughts to reach out for help. Suicide is preventable, and by rapping about it, talking about it, they intend to reduce the taboo, and more of the youth of today can be around to see tomorrow. A track from rapper Calculus tilted The Sickness has just been released as a part of the Suicide Watch Project Volume 2, available in September this year. The Sickness is currently number 8 on the triple j Unearthed Hip Hop charts.
