Microsoft Store Sydney Launches Xbox Academy

Microsoft Store kicks off Sydney Gaming Month to bring exciting and immersive gaming experiences to visitors of all ages. With weekly Xbox One S bundles to be won, Microsoft Store encourages families and friends to come down to battle it out on the virtual playing field!

Xbox-Academy

Gaming Month (20 March – 16 April)
Week 1 (20 – 26 March): Grand Prix Racing Week
Hit the circuit and aim for the fastest lap time of the week to win a 500GB Xbox One S Forza Horizon 3 Bundle!

Week 2 (27 March – 2 April): FIFA Week
Enjoy a game of FIFA 17 in-store through the week, and get prepared for a penalty knockout on Sunday, 2 April, where the highest-scoring player walks away with a 500GB Xbox One S FIFA 17 Bundle! Registrations begin in-store at 12pm on 2 April, with 1-on-1 rounds from 12.15pm till a defending champion is left standing.

Week 3 (3-9 April): Duel Week
Enjoy a game of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in-store through the week, and get prepared for virtual combat on Sunday, 9 April, where the highest-scoring player walks away with a 500GB Xbox One S with the new Tekken 7 pre-order! Registrations begin in-store at 12pm on 9 April, with 1-on-1 rounds from 12.15pm till the bravest warrior is left standing.

Week 4 (10 – 16 April): NBA Week
Enjoy a game of NBA 2K17 in-store through the week, and get prepared for some serious court action on Sunday, 16 April, where the highest-scoring player walks away with a 500GB Xbox One S NBA 2K17 Bundle! Registrations begin in-store at 12pm on 16 April, with 1-on-1 rounds from 12.15pm till the fastest cager is left standing.

Xbox Academy (10-22 April)
In partnership with AIE – Australia’s most awarded educator for the game development, 3D animation and visual effects industries – Microsoft Store presents the Xbox Academy.

Running from 10 to 22 April during the school holidays, students aged 14 and over can take part in a series of fun and creative workshops delivered by industry experienced AIE teachers. The three-hour workshops are officially accredited by AIE, where students will learn how to create 3D environments, with the ability to bring them to life on the Xbox One S!

Adding icing to the cake, all Xbox Academy participants will walk away with an Xbox, Microsoft and AIE approved Certificate of Course Completion, alongside a range of goodies ranging from Xbox Academy t-shirts and hoodies, to gamer pins, drink bottles, bags and USBs to take their creations home.

Workshops
Game Programming: How to Build an Adventure Game
· Wednesday, 12 April: 3-6pm
· Wednesday, 19 April: 1-4pm
Learn how to build a 3D Platformer – Adventure game using Unity Game Engine and the C# programming language. Taught by experienced game developers, participants will create a world for their character to explore, run, jump and collect items. Give your player an attack move and some enemies with simple A.I. to defeat.

Game Design: Design the Next Blockbuster
· Thursday, 13 April: 9-12pm
Design a game and develop a pitch to sell your idea for the next blockbuster game. Learn about the game design process, the key aspects of a game pitch and how to effectively present your idea. Participants will be using Adobe Photoshop to draw directly onto the Surface Pro 4. Pitch and get feedback on your idea from experienced Game Designers.

This course is perfect for young women and men interested in taking the first steps to a future in design and computer science in the video games industry!

Develop Games on Xbox One S
· Monday, 10 April: 2.30-5.30pm
· Saturday, 15 April: 2-5pm
· Monday, 17 April: 2-5pm
· Saturday, 22 April: 1-4pm
How great would it be to make a game and run it on your own Xbox One S! Learn how to do just that by setting up a PC and Xbox One S for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) development. Participants will work on a game in development and using Visual Studio, deploy it to an Xbox One S to play. Tweak core mechanics and make a unique gameplay experience.
