In the lead up to the release of his anticipated second album The Chase, Melbourne MC Illy has launched ‘14 Tracks in 14 Days’. What is 14 Tracks in 14 Days you ask? Commencing last Friday the 15th of October.Illy will be uploading 1 track per day off his new album The Chase for streaming via his official website www.illyal.com
Each track will be accompanied by a detailed description of the song, sharing exclusive details like the meanings behind the songs through to the recording process. This is intended to give fans not only an in-depth insight into the album, but also an idea of the overall flow of the record. Below you can find out what Illy had to say about Day 7’s track We Don’t Care. You can check the track out here.
Day 7 – Track: ‘We Don’t Care’
Another Ta-Ku beat, this was the first track I finished writing for the album. Ta-Ku sent a beat, and the loop that makes up this track was a small part of it, maybe 8 bars of an entirely different song. I can’t remember the rest of the beat but this section stuck out, so I got him to build the beat around this loop.
The idea behind the track has to do with responding to a lot of the criticism that’s been directed my way since LSS dropped. It amazes me that people go to the efforts they do with it. I’m all for honest opinions, there’s nothing worse than yes-men, but I cant stand it when it crosses the line into flat out hating for the sake of it.
The third verse talks about my record label, Obese, and a lot of the gossip that was flying around in 2009. After a few of the big names moved on from the label, a lot of people who knew nothing about the situation took it upon themselves to label Obese a sinking ship. I wanted to address that, because what Obese has done for the scene is beyond argument. Almost every local hip-hop artist I look up to has at one point or another been on Obese, and with M-Phazes, SS, Mantra, Skryptcha and now myself dropping in the same year, its not exactly a barren spell.
