Lopez Records in conjunction with Get Busy Productions are pleased to announce the Hip Hop Legends Tour featuring for the very first time in Australia, one of the most innovative duos in hip-hop history Das EFX, critically acclaimed group Black Sheep and iconic DJ/Producer Tony Touch.
New York City bred duo Das EFX consisting of Emcees Skoob and Drayz, literally exploded onto the hip hop scene in the early 90’s with their ground-breaking platinum plus debut album Dead Serious. After meeting during their freshman year at VSU, Andre Drayz Weston and Willie Skoob Hines united their individual rhyme talents to form Das EFX. After being courted by EPMD at a club in Richmond following a talent show that Das were competing in, and Erick and Parish were judging, the guys found themselves returning to the East Coast to record their now legendary debut album. Their first single “They Want Efx” which sampled James Brown, instantly impacted the whole country and propelled the group to platinum status.
They easily scored a second #1 single on the charts with “Mic Checka” solidifying their unique and innovative iggedy-suffixed rhyme style. Their sophomore album “Straight Up Sewaside” released in 1993 also hit the top of the Hip Hop charts across the world. Their third album “Hold It Down” featuring a line-up of legendary producers such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock and DJ Scratch to name but a few, resulted in one of the most potent street albums of the 90’s. “Generation EFX” was released in 1998, followed up by “How We Do” in 2003.
Who’s a Black Sheep? What’s a Black Sheep? So begins the first bar of “The Choice Is Yours”, one of the most memorable and infectious hip hop hits of all time. The duo from Queens NY, consisting of Dres and Mista Lawnge formed in 1989 and released their first single “The Choice Is Yours” in 1991. The hit single featured on their debut critically acclaimed album “A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing”. With unique rhythms and intelligent lyrics, the album represented the highest element of hip hop at the time. As members of The Native Tongues collective along with De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest, they were part of a movement that celebrated positivity, fun, and good-natured Afrocentric lyrics. The group’s second album “Non-Fiction” hit the Top 20 Billboard Charts. Dres has gone on to release two solo albums – “BWM/Novakane” and his most recent album “The Black Pool Of Genius”. Throughout the last two decades, Dres has remained sharp in the shadows, constantly refining his craft.
