The Australian Independent Record Labels Association is very excited to announce that this year’s Awards will see Carlton Dry join forces with AIR to partner in presenting the 2013 event.
“CUB have shown remarkable enthusiasm when it comes to working with Independent Music in Australia. To be working with a partner who shows this level of passion and commitment to AIR’s Independent Music Awards and Charts as well as the wider independent sector is something we’re really excited about!” – Nick O’Byrne, AIR General Manager
“We are absolutely thrilled to come on board as the Naming Sponsor of the AIR Awards and Charts. Carlton Dry and AIR share a similar vision and passion – supporting New Australian music. The Australian music scene has more diverse and rich talent than ever before, and our Artists are now competing on a world stage not just a local one. And we’re excited to be a part of it. We believe the Australian music scene – and in particular the ‘can do’ passion of Aussie Independent Artists – should have an Aussie beer to support it! We are looking forward to a great, long partnership with AIR and in helping great new Aussie Independent artists rise and shine both here and abroad. And as one part of this, in the coming weeks we will be announcing a new AIR Award which we hope will be the new ‘must win’ award for Aussie bands.” – Andy Meldrum, CUB General Manager
Presented and produced by The Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR), the eighth Annual Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards will be held on Wednesday October 9th for the third year running at Revolt art space in Kensington.
The Carlton Dry Independent Music Award are an opportunity for Australian labels, artists and the Industry at large to celebrate the successes of some of the country’s most vibrant and eclectic artists. Past winners include Gotye, Urthboy, Hilltop Hoods, The Jezabels, Art Vs. Science, Midnight Juggernauts, The Drones, Gurrumul, John Butler Trio, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Parkway Drive, Adalita, Chet Faker and Dan Sultan.
With yet another extraordinary year for Independent Artists unfolding, the 2013 crop of Artists have achieved great success both here and overseas which will no doubt be reflected in the voting for this year’s awards. From the phenomenal local and international success of Flume, break out year’s for both Jagwar Ma and Seth Sentry, to new found success for industry icons with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Gurrumul both celebrating their first Australian number 1’s – its been a diverse year indeed. We also welcomed homegrown domination by artists such as San Cisco, Parkway Drive, Big Scary, Abbe May and The Drones, who all produced brilliant and critically acclaimed releases.
Alongside the on-going success of previous winners Chet Faker and The Rubens, the past 12 months also saw the emergence of artists such as Clairy Browne And The Bangin’ Rackettes and Saskwatch who continue to develop Australia’s incredible growth in soul music.
With a diverse pool of representatives once again voting this year, from online media, music press, broadcasters, independent music industry representatives and artists themselves, the results will truly reflect the opinions of the collective Independent Music scene.
Awards to be presented during the evening include Best Independent Album, Best Independent Artist, Best Independent Hip Hop/Urban Release and Best Australian Independent Label among others. Nominees must have material released between 1st August 2012 and 31st July 2013, and the recording must be owned by the artist, or by an entirely Australian owned Independent Record Label.
Stay tuned for further announcements including new Awards, nominations, guest presenters and performing artists. For more info on the Awards, Charts and Independent music check out http://www.air.org.au.
