Darwin hip hop artist Requiem will team up with musicians from across Northern Australia to create a truly tropical album.
With an NT Government grant, Requiem said he’d make an album that reflected his growth and identity as a musician living in the NT.
“I’m planning to give people a taste of this tropical playground, and showcase some amazing musical talent that’s based up here, in the album,” he said.
“Living in Darwin for the past three years has been such a life-changing experience, it’s hard not to be influenced by these incredible surroundings.”
The 27-year-old MC recently received an NT Government Arts Development grant to help him create a quality product. Beats will come from a line-up of Australia’s most exciting emerging producers, including Mdusu, who produced Requiem’s dedication to late nights Early AM, which he released last year. Early AM became a finalist in the NT Song of the Year in the Urban/Hip Hop category. It will be one of the many tracks on the album, with more to be announced closer to release.
“This is the album I always wanted to make, I feel like I have discovered my sound and become comfortable in the studio,” he said.
“I’m excited about the songs I’ve been writing.”
He will also work with fellow Territory artists from Darwin, Alice Springs and Nhulunbuy. Requiem’s music and latest clips are available at www.requiemhiphop.com
