Joey Bada$$ turned heads in 2013 when he released his critically acclaimed debut mixtape, “1999.” It was nominated for mixtape of the year by BET and received critical praise from Pitchfork, Stereo Gum, HipHop DX as well ranking in the top albums of the year list by Complex.
Since “1999” Joey’s released two more mixtapes “Rejex” and “Summer Knights”. Joey was included as 2013’s Artist To Watch by MTV, Shazam, eMusic & Billboard (which also named him on their 21 under 21); selected for BET’s 2013 Music Matters program and nominated as Rookie of the Year at the BET Hip Hop Awards.
Joey collaborated with the likes of DOOM, Flatbush Zombies and also worked with the J Dilla Foundation, providing vocals over an unreleased beat from the late producer for a track called ‘Two Lips’.
Joey was crowned as part of XXL’s 2013 Freshmen’s Class alongside Schoolboy Q, Travi$ Scott, Ab-Soul & Action Bronson among others and he and his crew, Pro Era, have breathed fresh air into New York’s hip hop scene – praised as teenage visionaries leading one of the most compelling cultural movements to come out of NYC today.
