Melbourne musician and writer, Cam Gilmour has announced the release of his second EP, Anhedonia, which will be available digitally and physically on Tuesday October 7, 2014 via www.camgilmour.bandcamp.com.
The first song off the EP, ‘The Old Man And His Tea’ sets the tone of the EP, registering like a dramatic film score. Playing on Hemingway’s famous title, this hard-fought musical beast is streaming on Soundcloud and YouTube. All pre-orders come with an instant digital download of ‘The Old Man And His Tea‘, and limited physical pre-orders come with a bonus Zine, As Dire As Its Title, which features a collection of short and slightly unhinged essays on the daily scrapes of the creative artist.
Following the release of his 2013 debut EP A Bellyful of Classics, Cam set about working on his forthcoming five-track EP, Anhedonia. A work of melodic instrumental music replete with soaring strings sections and aching piano melodies juxtaposed to hip-hop leaning drum rhythms, Anhedonia speaks volumes without ever saying a word.
Cam has performed around Australia for the better part of the past decade. In 2006, he joined Melbourne rock band Behind Crimson Eyes, releasing two albums and touring extensively (the Big Day Out, Soundwave, & Triple J One Night Stand), before teaming up with hip-hop artist Illy in 2010.
Cam played drums with Illy over the next three years (Splendour in the Grass, Sprung, & Come Together), while continuing to write and produce music, and completing a university degree in Psychology. These days, he’s fairly content to rant from a blog, scribble the odd article for various publications (Junkee, SF Media, Hysteria) and write songs from a detuned piano while attempting to drink his own weight in tea every day.
