Releases Deluxe Edition Of Multiple Award-Winning Album ‘Raw x Infinity’ Available Now
23-yr old Australian Music Prize winner Remi has today unveiled a powerful new video for his poignant single ‘Ode To Ignorance’ (directed by Melbourne film maker Jam Nawaz). The video coincides with the US release of his multi-award winning album ‘Raw X Infinity’ and the simultaneous release of a world-wide Deluxe Edition of the album that includes 3 bonus tracks and 12 instrumentals.
Addressing the very real presence of racism and his experience of being mixed race in his home country Australia, the 23-year old award-winning Melbourne hip-hop artist says of the track and video:
“This track is about mine and my family’s personal experience growing up and living mixed race in this country (Australia). It’s important for people to know that this is not targeted at any one person or any one race, it’s directed at ignorance in general. My hope is that it raises some awareness and starts/continues some meaningful conversations about the racial climate in this country and what we can do to bring better equality. In the words of Kate Tempest “there is no them, it’s just us”.
A few weeks ago Remi (along with collaborator Sensible J) was awarded the prestigious Coopers AMP (Australian Music Prize) 2015 for their album ‘Raw X Infinity’, which faced competition from a 65 strong list of Australian albums and was judged by 15 industry professionals. The prize comes fresh off the back of REMI picking up the award for ‘Best Independent Release’ at the Rolling Stone Awards, and further cements him as one of the fastest rising stars in Australia.
Over the past 6 months Remi and the album ‘Raw X Infinity’ have been awarded The 2015 Australian Music Prize an AIR Award for ‘Best Independent Hip Hop Album’, The Age Victoria Music Award for ‘Best Emerging Artist’, The Carlton Dry $50,000 ‘Global Music Grant’, The AU Award for ‘Hip Hop Live Act Of The Year’, ‘Best Independent Release’ by Rolling Stone and were also nominated for the ‘triple J Album of the Year’.
In 2014 Remi sold-out his numerous headline dates across Australia, and was honoured to join Damon Albarn on stage during his 2014 Australian tour to perform Gorillaz ‘Clint Eastwood’ after a personal invitation. He has also shared the stage with Danny Brown, Vic Mensa, De La Soul and Joey Bada$$ and is about to embark on his second UK/European tour where he has been invited to play a number of impressive festivals and headline club shows.
Remi will be donating $3 from every copy of the ‘Raw X Infinity’ Deluxe Edition sold in Australia over the next month to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
