In the world of electronic music, sometimes the vocalist is the quiet achiever yet they leave an indelible mark. Nicole Millar, announced today as a new member of the EMI Music Australia family, is one such vocalist.
Many will know her as the alluring voice of Peking Duk’s ubiquitous anthem ‘High’. A #1 triple platinum single and #2 in triple j Hottest 100, ‘High’ saw Nicole pulled up on the ARIA stage with the boys to collect a gong for ‘Best Dance Release’ and travel the country playing shows to hundreds and thousands of fans, including closing the Mix-Up Tent at this year’s Splendour in the Grass.
22 years old and hailing from Sydney, Nicole has spent time alongside some of the brightest names in Australian dance, lending her ethereal voice to collaborations with the likes of Cosmo’s Midnight – ‘Phantasm’, Golden Features ‘Tell Me’, and What So Not’s ‘Emoh Instead’. Nicole was also invited to grace the stage as guest vocalist with Rüfüs and the Kite String Tangle as they toured throughout 2014, taking in shows which included triple j’s ‘One Night Stand’ and the Groovin The Moo tour.
Now taking the bold step to move to the front of the stage, Nicole recently spent time in Los Angeles, Melbourne and Sydney writing and recording the foundations of her first single and debut EP.
Today Nicole has been announced as one of the artists to watch on the bill for this year’s EMCPlay, taking place across various venues in Sydney’s CBD on December 2 as part of the Electronic Music Conference. Nicole’s performance at EMCPlay will be her first live solo show since appearing on the Red Bull Music Academy Stage at last year’s Splendour in The Grass, and will be the first with her new 3 piece band.
Emerging out of the shadows and into the spotlight, Nicole Millar is now set to shine bright on her own stage.
