In March of 2015 a mixtape by the name of ‘The Social Alien’ surfaced on the internet. It wasn’t before long that the ‘The Social Alien’ mixtape racked up tens of thousands of streams and had sold thousands of copies and more importantly, introduced us to a 21 year old long haired rapper from Melbourne that went by the moniker of Ivan Ooze.

At that time, Ooze was working the register at a Toyworld in Ringwood and didn’t have a clue about what was to come. Fast forward to 2017…over a million streams on the original release, countless tours, festivals, hangovers, missed flights and a Wu Tang collaboration…Ivan Ooze is regarded as one of the new leaders of hip hop in Australia.

With his current collaboration with electronic act Crooked Colours on high rotation with triple j and having just wrapped up a massive national tour supporting good friends Peking Duk…Ooze has flipped the script to bring us part 2 of his acclaimed mixtape:

‘The Social Alien 2: Memoirs from the Milky Way’.

Originally slated to release an EP this coming Summer, Ooze has taken it back to where it all began and offers us a 21 track mixtape – a vivid journey through the mind of an unaccepted individual trying to find his place in the world. It reflects on Ooze’s past experiences and how future ones might play out whilst being tangled among overwhelming thoughts of life and death.

The mixtape is truly an example of the raw talent and work ethic Ivan has, what can only be described as a collection of some of the filthiest bangers and chill instrumentals combined with Ooze’s proclivity for headbanging bars, culminating in one of the most amazing bodies of work yet to be imagined by the hip hop heavy-weight. While making the mixtape very much his own, the collaborative effort with other big names within the scene adds a rich diversity to The Social Alien 2, making it feel as if you are listening to multiple bodies of work.

“The piece is full of dark stories, party vibes, intoxicated memories, stoner sing-a-longs, relationship issues and I am more than excited to unleash it into the world” says Ooze of the project.

It doesn’t end there, not only will fans have 19 new tracks and a new single to work their way through the impending summer, they will be able to live and breath it in person this coming October as Ooze and the crew take the mixtape on the road for 4 very special shows.

“The show is entirely new. I have so many new songs that I am so fucking stoked to perform for everyone. It’s a very balanced mix between stoner sing-a-longs, big bangers and straight out hip hop and I think anyone who attends is going to be blown away by the new show. I also have a fresh new stage set up I’m excited to unleash so I’m most certain people are going to leave wanting to see more.” – Ooze.

The Social Alien 2 ‘Memoirs from the Milky Way’ Tour kicks off in Sydney and will make its way to Melbourne (including an U18’s show) culminating at his mainstage performance at the recently announced Sprung Festival in Queensland.
