Grime Godfather Wiley Announces Tour Supports

After 11 studio albums, forming seminal crews like Roll Deep with mentees Dizzee Rascal and Skepta, and publishing an autobiography, this will be his first headline tour of the region.

After receiving an MBE for services to music in the Queen’s New Years Eve Honours list, Wiley’s announced the supports for his Australian dates which cover Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, where he’ll headline Hidden Festival alongside Joryde. Sydney will be opened by local DJ Yemisul with main support, Carmouflage Rose, all the way from Brisbane. Taking inspiration from early Kanye and his African heritage, and after joining Alison Wonderland’s Scare House Project you know he’ll be the perfect precurser. Melbourne will see Grime staples Fraksha, Scotty Hinds, Hijack, Lady Banton and Exit 99 all hit the stage ahead of the pioneer. Meanwhile, local groups SPREADINGTHESICKNESS and Brassic will open in Christchurch.

Either directly responsible or indirectly influencing almost all major players in the UK Grime scene, Wiley is arguably the most influential musician of the genre. Beginning his career with 2004’s ‘treddin on thin ice’ critical acclaim quickly followed but it wasn’t until his 2008 single ‘Wearing My Rolex’ that he hit mainstream success.

Returning to a truer, less commercial sound his latest album ‘Godfather’ is a melting pot of everything that makes the long-standing figure head the artist he is, featuring gritty bass lines and plenty of memorable bars, it’s quintessentially British grime. The album debuted at #9 in the UK Album charts and later that year Wiley was honored by NME Magazine with an “Outstanding Contribution to Music” award. Recently he teased his forthcoming ‘Godfather ll’ record, due out February 16th, releasing new single ‘I Call the Shots’ feat. JME last week.

Running his notorious Eskimo Dance raves in he UK for a decade ensures Wiley knows how to put on a party, and rest assured he’ll be bringing this expertise to his 2018 tour.

See the songs that built a genre, and be some of the first to hear tracks from his forthcoming 12th studio album ‘Godfather ll’.
