In celebration of the launch of PhantomVSN, Nike’s game-changing new football boot, the Phantom Pyramid was unveiled today at Birrarung Marr.
The centrepiece of Melbourne football for the next six days, this phenomenal structure will host the new Phantom League and Phantom Cup tournament, where local footballers will compete in small sided tournaments, with the opportunity to be crowned champions of the city.
Standing more than five stories high, the Phantom Pyramid features a caged trial area where athletes can boot up and play in the new PhantomVSN boots, the latest Nike Football innovation worn by Philippe Coutinho, Mallory Pugh, Kevin De Bruyne and Australians Aaron Mooy and Sebastian Pasquali. Ballers from across the city will compete in tournaments or watch an explosive series of Phantom football. Each night there will be beats from DJ Sippy, food and drinks, plus a curated digital projection on the Phantom Pyramid exterior, lighting up the Melbourne cityscape.
On Tuesday 8 August, local players can sign up with their teams to compete in the Phantom League, an elite 5-a-side football tournament where the winning team will qualify for Friday night’s semi-final. Four teams will be chosen to take part, with registrations open via nike.com/events. Spectators can also sign up to witness the best 5-a-side teams in Melbourne battle it out in the ultimate contest of precision, creativity and grit.
In an Australian first, the Phantom Pyramid will also offer the Phantom Elite Coaching Clinic, led by special guest coaches and will be available on weekdays throughout the week. Phantom footballers can sign up via nike.com/events to learn and practise the precision skills required to become deadly playmakers like world class Phantom footballers Philippe Coutinho and Fran Kirby.
Throughout the week, Melbournian footballers will also have the unique opportunity to assemble their own squad and take over the Phantom Pyramid for free for 30 minute sessions.
Players and spectators experiencing the Phantom Pyramid on Friday night will also be treated to a very special reveal from Nike. The Phantom Pyramid will be open from Tuesday 7 August to Sunday 12 August. Players and spectators can sign up for free for entry via the below links.
