Meet the PhantomVNM, the perfect football boot for finishers with its textured zones to facilitate a powerful strike and a Precision Pwr strike zone for spot-on accuracy.
The boot will be worn by Matildas’ star Caitlin Foord, English captain Harry Kane and American World Cup Champion Alex Morgan.
To create the PhantomVNM, designers teamed up with Nike’s research lab and utilised a robotic leg to test strikes from a variety of angles on the blades of the shoe. This enabled Nike to analyse the impact that the various blade iterations had on accuracy, elevation, power and spin.
The data ultimately informed the exact specifications of the Precision Pwr strike zone, which features 13 ridges set at pinpoint angles and ascending heights. This design helps keep the ball down if it is mishit and provides the perfect touch on the ball.
“When I’m shooting, I always favour precision over power. Different situations demand different finishes but I always aim for placement first,” says Caitlin Foord.
Much like the PhantomVSN, the PhantomVNM increases the strike zone area by covering the laces. The boot builds off the Hyper-Reactive plate found in the Hypervenom3 and is flexible in the forefoot for toeing off the ground with torque for sharp cuts.
The 13 ridges of the Precision Pwr strike zone are set at specific angles and ascending heights to help keep the ball down if it is mishit and to provide bite on the ball. Much like its counterpart in the Phantom family, PhantomVNM increases the strike zone area by covering the laces, giving PhantomVNM a 30-percent larger strike zone than Hypervenom3. But, PhantomVNM does build off the Hyper-Reactive plate made famous on the Hypervenom3.
The plate, which takes inspiration from Nike Free, is flexible in the forefoot for toeing off the ground with torque for sharp cuts. This iteration of the HyperReactive plate also strays from traditional plates by exposing its faceted structure. This aesthetic also carries over to the premium faceted Swoosh.
The PhantomVNM is available now on nike.com.au. A small-sided version, featuring Zoom Air cushioning, will also be available. Head to Nike News for more information.
