Red Pill (of Ugly Heroes) Releases Solo Album + Stream

The newest signee from Mello Music Group, Red Pill’s debut full length album is finally here. The Detroit native has been described as “unflinchingly grim” and “hilariously self-deprecating.” The new album, Look What This World Did To Us, is an introspective journey, revealing intimate details through unabashed honesty and satirical absurdity. Self-analysis and loathing may come through initially, but what truly impresses about Red Pill is the talent and control of a veteran rhymer. Apollo Brown & Ras Kass Announce New Album Blasphemy

Blasphemy, the collaborative album from esteemed Mello Music Group producer Apollo Brown and Ras Kass, is a thought-provoking and highly personal treatise on the unspoken. No “ism” is out of bounds, no topic too untoward. Whatever you hold sacred isn’t above aggressive inquiry. The album displays their undeniable synergy. When Ras Kass crucifies supposed facts over Apollo’s beats, it’s clear he is the West Coast’s preeminent philosopher. When Apollo’s blaring suites soothe your soul, it’s an ontological fact that he ranks among the best producers in the game. With Blasphemy, the duo has delivered the truth. Apollo Brown Thirty Eight + Australian Tour

Apollo Brown’s Thirty Eight is a contemporary throwback, inhabiting the realm of reverent reinvention and innovation. It deftly bridges the gap between ’70s Blaxploitation soundtracks (e.g. Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly or Marvin Gaye’s Trouble Man) and the hip-hop records that sampled from them. The tracks on “Thirty Eight” are presented in gritty, heavily saturated Technicolor, the scratches and cigarette burns as purposeful as they are happily accidental. These are suites sounding from long barrels held by lone men lurking in grimy project hallways. Tinged with revenge and regret, shrouded in thick tendrils of hollow-point smoke, the songs have all the makings … Continue reading Apollo Brown Thirty Eight + Australian Tour
