Fresh from his first headline national tour, Adelaide’s MC/Producer Koolta (2011 Hilltop Hoods Initiative Winner/2012 JJJ Unearthed Parklife Winner) has teamed up once again with DJ PT for the release of their second mixtape All I Need’s A Heartbeart.
2013 has been a busy year for the pair thus far with a heavy touring schedule for the last six months. Now back in the studio Koolta has been honing his craft and pushing his song writing skills to exciting and diverse places.
This release is a collection of ten brand new songs plus three remixes from Koolta’s debut album The Extraordinary Average Joe (2012). DJ PT’s skills as a turntablist are on display as he seamlessly blends tracks and impresses the listener with crafty cuts. Guest vocalists include Triple J favourite Allday, Purpose, Syntax (Deathstarrs), L-Fresh the Lion and Subsketch (NSW).
The release features entirely original production from Koolta, plus guest production from Artis (SA), Possible Address (Russia), Big Jordy (NSW) and Elapsed Time.
As the mixtape title would suggest, All I Need’s A Heartbeart sees Koolta exploring themes close to his heart. Capitalism is a look into Koolta’s personal family life while Get Gorilla featuring Allday, Purpose & Syntax is a fine display of brooding rapid fire punch-lines from some of the finest up and coming MCs from around the country.
