Sydney duo, Jones Jnr. has announced the release of their second mixtape The Soultape 2 on Friday 23 August. As with their debut Soultape, the new collection will be available from their website to download free.
Jones Jnr. is Evan Jones and Morgan Jones (no relation) and together they traverse a unique blend of old-school soul, mixed with contemporary beats. The pair has earned their musical stripes in some of Sydney’s most exciting bands including the Thundamentals (DJ Morgs) and Rumpunch (Ev Jones). In fact, Jones Jnr. was formed after Thundamentals popular take on Matt Corby’s Brother recorded for triple j’s ‘Like a Version’, which has amassed over 800,000 views on YouTube.
For The Soultape 2, Jones Jnr. had a new approach to recording. “By popular demand we made the tracks longer. We had our own studio this time round, as opposed to Morgs bedroom, so we naturally delved deeper into the tracks, explored new sounds and used more live instruments,” says Ev.
In the past six months, Jones Jnr. has hit the road with Bettye Lavette, Jose James, Bilal and Oddissee & Olivier Daysoul. Next on the dance card, the duo will join the genre-jumping Fat Freddy’s Drop for a national tour kicking off in August. The duo will also join the line-up of Australia’s most talented emerging artists at Bigsound in September.
It’s time to keep up with the Jones’.
