Motley has been making music in his makeshift home studio since 2002. In 2003 he was noticed by Live Nation and hand picked to tour his native UK with Hip-Hop legends De La Soul.
Since 2005 Motley has shared the stage with some of the world’s greatest artists including Nas, Nelly & Beyoncé. Sending thousands crazy with his infectious stage presence and smooth, energetic rhymes at Sound Relief (MCG) and Big Day Out.
In 2004 he worked with Nitin Sawhney on Melbourne’s 2004 International Arts Festival. He was immediately snapped up by Bliss N Eso to record on their album, Day of the Dog. Day of the Dog skyrocketed into a full national and regional tour of Australia. Motley knew was going to love Australia making the decision to relocate in 2008.
Motley has continued to combine his passion for music and youth work, setting up a program called The Motley Project which was developed to assist and engage trauma affected young people around the world. Although the program is now based in Melbourne, Motley has worked with young people in Africa, India, Peru & Brazil and continues to maintain relationships with the organizations he has visited.
Motley is back with a huge new single The Dope Squad Pt.1 featuring some of Australia’s most respected hip hop artists including N’fa Jones, Remi, Briggs, Azmarino, Hau, Sky’High and 1/6.
The Dope Squad Pt.1 is a prelude to Motley’s soon to be released third album Deal Or No Deal. The feel good, old school posse song is an indication of the albums direction Motley refers to as, “Straight head nod rap music”.
The fresh, energetic video was produced by Fly Island at their Warehouse in Brunswick. It was a bit of a struggle getting all 8 artists together on the same day due to conflicting schedules, but the determined crew eventually all came together on 1/6’s birthday, which lead to the theme dress up party! The video was co-directed by Motley who shared Fly Island’s vision of unplanned, unrestricted fun.
Motley states, “The video was more or less made by letting the cameras roll while we celebrated a friend’s birthday!”
Deal Or No Deal features many of Motley’s adolescent inspirations such as Camp Lo, Heltah Skeltah (Ruck & Rock) Nottz, Rah Digga and Billy Danze (M.O.P.) The album will be released digitally from February 2014.
