For the first time in Sydney, local audiences can now see Jeff Broadway’s 2013 documentary about forward-thinking hip hop label, Stones Throw and hear/see the full story from label co-founder Peanut Butter Wolf as he takes viewers on a journey from forming the label with Charizma, through flagship acts like Madlib and J Dilla to present day successes such as Mayer Hawthorne.
With a soundtrack by Madlib, this full-length feature film draws on over 100 hours of footage from filmmaker Jeff Broadway, live concert footage, never-before-seen archival material, inner-circle home video/photographs, and in-depth interviews with the folks who put Stones Throw on the map, in order to delve deeper into the label’s enigmatic artists, history, culture and global following.
Film Features appearances from: Peanut Butter Wolf, Madlib, J Dilla, J Rocc, MF DOOM, Mayer Hawthorne, Dam-Funk, Kanye West, Questlove, Talib Kweli, Common, Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Ariel Pink, Geoff Barrow (Portishead/Quakers), Flying Lotus, A-Trak, Ben Harper and more.
Screening: 7pm, Wednesday January 15, 2014 at Metro Screen (adjacent to Chauvel Cinemas) Paddington Town Hall. Presented by Groovescooter, Eastside FM and Decode Media.
