Still a month out from the official release date of their third album So We Can Remember Sydney’s Thundamentals’ have already sold out two of five tour dates – The Corner Hotel, Melbourne and Mojo’s in Fremantle – with Brisbane and Sydney selling quickly and a sixth date announced, the second at Melbourne’s famous Corner Hotel.
Proudly announcing today that they will be joined on tour by buddies Astronomy Class and Fozzey & Van C, Thundamentals are sharing the love by releasing a brand new clip for Something I Said ft. Thom Crawford – the latest single from So We Can Remember – a song that has propelled the band into unprecedented chart territory.
Something I Said feat. Thom Crawford — released Feb 18 — debuted at #3 on iTunes’ Hip Hop Charts, has moved up a spot to #12 on the Urban Singles ARIA Charts, up two positions [now at #13] on the Australian Artist ARIA Charts, and is peaking at #68 on the Australian ARIA Single Charts having leapt ten spots in recent days. Not surprisingly, ‘Something…’ was #1 Most Viral Track on Spotify, and the #2 Most Played Track on triple j in the week of release.
Previous album single, the romantic ‘Smiles Don’t Lie’ paved the way late last year, debuting at #5 spot on the iTunes Hip Hop Charts, with enamoured fans voting the love song into position #32 in triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown – the highest spot reached by a local hip hop song for the entire year and Thundamentals’ second appearance in the nationally-celebrated radio event. Indeed, since ‘Something I Said ft Thom Crawford’ was officially launched, the award-winning Tarantino-esque clip for Smiles Don’t Lie has gotten even more YouTube love, rapidly approaching half a million views, with over 60,000 in the last week alone.
Putting the Sunday-sultry Smiles Don’t Lie in the same light as the soulful, schoolyard Something I Said ft. Thom Crawford illuminates the seamless way Thundamentals have delivered on their solid hip hop promise, while happily exploring innovative directions in production and arrangement, as evidenced in ‘Noodle Soup’ – the left-field album jam released to fans just before the New Year.
Progressive, innovative, cohesive, definitive, informative, expansive – all these words fit the new album by Thundamentals, now available for pre-order on iTunes. Add experimental, honest and evocative and you’ve got more than enough reasons to take time out to vibe on So We Can Remember.
