Big Village is proud to present Cross City Sessions: Vol 1. East Side a brand new event focused on showcasing local talent from across our fine city of Sydney. Each event will be held in a different corner of the city and will give hand-picked young artists the chance to link-up and perform alongside some of their favourite Big Village acts.
Recognising the hot bed of talent spread across Sydney Big Village came up with a way to share the love and shine some light on up and coming artists they believe will hold the torch high for the hip hop scene.
2012 Australian Music Prize finalists Daily Meds kick off the first ‘East Side’ instalment at Jam Gallery in Bondi Junction with their politically charged, rapid flow and big bass-driven beats alongside the charismatic Dutch, six-man super collective Beastside, fresh duo Cornerstore Superheroes, talented youngsters Mr. Theory, Prospecta and beat wizard Kid Fiction.
Daily Meds: Formed in inner-west Sydney late 2009 as collaboration between MC’s P.Smurf and Mikoen, producer Roleo and vocalist Billie Rose.
Their 2010 self titled EP was the first Big Village release, featuring the crew’s first single Everybody Get Pumped, the song which won the crew a slot at Come Together festival through triple j Unearthed. In April 2012 Daily Meds released their debut full length album Happy Daze. Backed by the strong triple j airplay of their grimey single ‘Insane’, the album quickly became an underground success. With a second album in the works Daily Meds are one crew to look out for as a shining light in the local hip hop community.
Dutch: Emerging from Sydney’s hip hop scene, Dutch has been involved in the hip hop world for a number of years now. Growing a musical partnership with respected producers Ta-Ku and Cam Bluff, Dutch is fast becoming a highly regarded artist with unquestionable potential. Currently in the early stages of finishing his first full length solo album Arcadia, his seamless ability to perform on any platform and create rhymes to impress are part of the raw talent Dutch possesses
