Perth emcee, Coin Banks, is topping off an unparalleled 2014 with the release of his highly-anticipated, ‘Tails’ EP, led by its ecstatic new single “Someone”, yesterday through Inertia Access.
The sequel and spiritual counterpart to his acclaimed ‘Heads’ EP (released in March 2014), ‘Tails’ further embodies the style which is quickly establishing Banks as one of hip-hop’s most exciting new voices: fusing the classic with the contemporary to forge a signature sound which proves as effective as it seems effortless.
“The premise behind Heads & Tails was to show two versatile sides,” says Banks. “The inspiration came from what I like to listen to, from the Native Tongues movement to its modern day equivalents like Top Dawg Entertainment: music that’s both stylistically original and telling a story. I got in touch with all of my favourite producers and developed a two part release on which I could build a sound.”
No better is this idea demonstrated that on all-new single, Someone, which places its heart firmly on its sleeve without ever collapsing into cliché. “It’s an open letter to someone. It is a reminder for people in doubt, that there is someone for everyone.”
