Golden Era Records signee Jesswar delivers staunch power in ‘Savage’ video

Following the release of her official debut single ‘Savage’ on Friday, Brisbane-based Fijian hip-hop artist Jesswar has dropped a menacing film clip for the track. At 22 Jesswar is driven, hungry and proving it, having recently signed with Golden Era Records and been named one of the top 10 live hip-hop acts in the country.

Filmed and directed by Jaen Collective and Que Film Collective, the viscerally staunch clip features Jesswar alongside a cast of her peers – all tough, talented, Brisbane-based women kicking goals in their respective fields.

“Being Fijian my people were portrayed as ‘savages’ so using that term was definitely thought out in reclaiming that terminology and more like a war call. I feel confident that I’ve been working hard a for a long time so I wanted to come out with the ferocious nature that has helped me get to this point. Using the word cunt is important too, this is another word I’m reclaiming and embracing. This industry is brutal as a woman so being resilient and tougher than the next dude is necessary to succeed.”

Jesswar’s EP will be available on Golden Era Records next year.
