Described by Austereo’s Hot30 countdown as “the next big thing”, Joey Maker’s first ever recorded track won an Australia-wide rap competition. The result: national radio play and a trip to record two singles at Record Plant Studios in Los Angeles.
Since then, he has worked to build his profile in the Sydney scene, drawing on his experiences growing up in south-west Sydney, as well as inspiration from artists like Kanye West and 360. Making connections with local DJs and rappers saw him involved in projects such as the MusicNSW compilation “Bring It” (with SERECK, SKRYPTCHA). As well as proving his abilities on recorded tracks, he has built up a strong performance resume, playing a range of different venues (Qbar, Spectrum, Sandringham Hotel, Australia Day Stage at Parramatta Park) supporting many Australian artists (Mailer Daemon, Joyride, M-Phazes and Spit Syndicate).
Joey Maker’s brand new single, Powdered Prophecy features piano driven production that provides a cinematic soundscape for this young artist to explore his inner conflict and addictive personality, with Bruce Hathcock‘s vocals providing contrast on the hauntingly melodic chorus. The balance between Joey’s soulful bars and Bruce’s alluring vocals makes for an engaging and polished track.
